At that ti, Wen Zhi was having breakfast at Shang Hexing’s place. After learning from Chen Jinhai that Chong Wanyin had left early in the morning, the spoon in her hand dropped back into the bowl, making a crisp clinking sound against the porcelain.
Shang Hexing turned to look at her and asked indifferently, “You spent yesterday afternoon cheering her up, do you plan to accompany her again today?”
Wen Zhi shook her head, “No.”
She picked up the spoon and stirred the lean at porridge in her bowl, speaking while stirring, “I just feel the madam is quite lonely, with no one to chat with.”
Shang Hexing tugged at the corner of his lip, “She has a husband and a son, yet soone still finds her lonely.”
Wen Zhi stiffened, belatedly realizing that her words had inadvertently hit a raw nerve in Shang Hexing.

Shang Hexing saw her reaction and let out a slight sigh, placing a cup of chestnut milk dessert that the butler had just brought beside her.
Wen Zhi said, “Thank you.”
Shang Hexing chuckled, “Being polite now?”
She put down the spoon, took the cup of chestnut milk dessert, and before drinking, she flashed him a sly smile, “Basic manners.”
Shang Hexing raised his eyebrows slightly, his lips forming a faint smile, “Fine.”
After breakfast, Shang Hexing had to go to work. Although their relationship was basically public after yesterday, this was the Shang family ho, and it wasn’t appropriate for Wen Zhi to see him off too openly.

“Not interested in any? Not even a little?” Seeing her slow response, Shang Hexing asked again.
Wen Zhi looked up, her eyes shimring with a bright smile, “I’ve already indulged enough in pleasures and laziness, I’m used to it now and don’t really have anything I want to do, not even a little bit.”
Shang Hexing suggested, “I could drop you off at ng Fan’s on my way.”
“ng Fan is very busy,” she said after thinking it over.
Shang Hexing looked at her, leaned in slightly, and asked, “ng Fan is busy, and I will be out too. With her gone today, won’t you be bored?”
Wen Zhi knew who the ‘her’ Shang Hexing was referring to.

annoying?”

Shang Hexing laughed upon hearing this, but his laughter wasn’t one of mockery; he was amused by the tone of her voice while she spoke.
After laughing, he nodded in approval, “Then let
congratulate you in advance, the richest woman in town.”
His term “richest woman” actually made Wen Zhi feel a bit embarrassed.
She had only been joking.
The wealth of the Wen Family could only be considered a minor household in Bai City, barely supported by Baixi Manor. Not to ntion she was soone who had been kicked out of the Wen Family.
Although she now received a fixed monthly transfer of a million from Gu Rang on behalf of her father, who knew how long that would last.

Wen Zhi opened it with eager expectancy.
Inside the box was a gemstone ring, with a beautifully cut stone that instantly grabbed one’s attention.
Wen Zhi’s smiling lips froze for a second before quickly returning to normal. She looked up, her face a picture of surprise, “Madam, this is too valuable…”
“As long as it suits you, what does its value matter?” Chong Wanyin motioned, “Try it on.”
Wen Zhi graciously declined, “It’s really too valuable; I can’t accept it.”
Chong Wanyin feigned displeasure: “If you don’t take it, how can you make it up to
for making a special trip and taking an entire afternoon to pick it out for you?”
Upon hearing this, Wen Zhi showed a puzzled expression.
Chong Wanyin told her, “Today was a jewelry exhibition by a friend of mine; I received the invitation a couple of days ago, and you know I would have gone, but you ca back yesterday, so I declined. Yet I thought about it for a long ti last night and felt I should get you a proper gift, so I went to the exhibition first thing in the morning after all. This ring, I carefully selected it after much deliberation; if you refuse it, it will chill my heart.”
