Chapter 123: Cajole him” or “Pacify him” or “Soothe him

Wen Zhi slept well in the latter part of the night, so she also woke up early the next day.

Upon opening her eyes, she found herself pillowed on Shang Hexing’s arm, her body nestled in his embrace—a very intimate pose.

Like a couple deep in love, or a husband and wife.

She moved her hand slightly, then slowly sat up. Although she tried to be as gentle as possible, she still woke Shang Hexing.

“I’m being gentle; you go back to sleep, sleep so more,” she coaxed him subconsciously. Fortunately, her throat was much better, only a tad hoarse.

He half-opened his eyes to look at her.

Under his gaze, she slowly got out of bed and went to the bathroom. There were two bags in there, filled with a complete set of won’s clothing, including undergarnts, which must have been prepared for her by Shang Hexing last night.

After changing into her clothes, Wen Zhi found that Shang Hexing had fallen asleep again.

After the earlier incident, Wen Zhi was sure he was a light sleeper and had stayed up late because of her, so she didn’t go back to the bed’s side but headed straight out the door instead.

Dawn was breaking, approaching eight o’clock in the morning.

Shang Hexing ca downstairs in his loungewear, stretching his slightly sore arm as he descended the steps. He had propped his arm up as a pillow for Wen Zhi for about two hours last night, causing poor blood circulation, and upon waking, his arm was quite sore.

“Wen Zhi?”

Shang Hexing called out.

Footsteps ca from the kitchen. Wen Zhi appeared, wearing an apron and holding a spatula in hand, standing under the patio looking up, “Mr. Shang, you’re awake. I’m making breakfast; it’ll be ready soon.”

Shang Hexing frowned, “You’re making breakfast?”

“Don’t worry, I won’t blow up the kitchen. I can manage a simple breakfast, and it’s edible.” She stressed the last three words, assuring him.

Shang Hexing couldn’t help but smile at her words, then asked, “Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?”

“No, my throat has almost recovered.” She said, “You can tell by listening to

speak.”

Shang Hexing furrowed his brows, “It still sounds a bit hoarse.”

“Just a bit, it doesn’t affect my normal speaking.” Wen Zhi pointed towards the dining area, “The milk has been heated already; have it while it’s warm.”

With that, Wen Zhi hurried back to the kitchen—her water was about to boil!

Shang Hexing watched her flustered retreat and chuckled softly to himself.

When he arrived at the dining room, he rolled up his sleeves and sat down at the dining table, a cup of hot milk in front of him, her gentle instructions reverberating in his ears.

At this mont, he could already envision a life married to her. It was indeed beautiful and sothing he yearned for.

“Dumplings are here, and there’s also… a sowhat failed water-poached egg.”

Wen Zhi ca over with two plates, placing the one with a barely acceptable presentation in front of Shang Hexing.

The plate contained freshly boiled dumplings, steaming hot, with a water-poached egg next to them, though this egg looked a bit scattered.

Shang Hexing glanced at the plate in front of Wen Zhi—two dumplings had burst open, and the water-poached egg had turned to crumbs, looking quite unfortunate.

Wen Zhi smiled awkwardly, “They’re frozen dumplings from your fridge. I just didn’t control the cooking ti well, the skins got a bit mushy and two broke. As for the water-poached egg, I did my best.”

“It’s already very good.” Shang Hexing reached out to switch his plate with the one in front of Wen Zhi.

Wen Zhi saw what he was doing and imdiately tried to stop him, “It all tastes the sa, it’s just that the presentation isn’t nice.”

But she was a step too slow, Shang Hexing had already switched them and said, “Since the taste is the sa, it shouldn’t matter which one I eat, right?”

His rhetorical question left her speechless.

Wen Zhi didn’t argue further and quietly picked up her chopsticks.

“Is the clothing fitting okay?” he asked.

Wen Zhi nodded, “It fits well; Mr. Shang, you have an accurate eye.”

To her, the reason why the clothes fit so well must have been because Shang Hexing had estimated her size after observing her figure and guessed her asurents.

As she thought this, she heard Shang Hexing say, “It might not have been just estimation.”

Wen Zhi’s expression froze.

Right, the clothes fit, and it seems like the underwear does too…

You can’t tell that just by looking…

“Let’s eat, otherwise the dumplings will get cold,” his voice broke her increasingly downward-spiraling thoughts.

Wen Zhi had no choice but to stop thinking about it.

At first, the dining table was very quiet, with only the faint sound of bowls and utensils gently clashing, until Shang Hexing answered a phone call, breaking the somber atmosphere with his unhurried tone.

“Don’t wait up for .”

He said just that and then hung up the call.

No sooner had he put down the phone than it began to vibrate incessantly, with incoming calls coming one after another. Shang Hexing still picked them up, giving brief instructions before hanging up again.

As he set his phone to silent, Wen Zhi suddenly asked, “Mr. Shang, did you go to work today?”

Shang Hexing finished his last dumpling and put down his chopsticks before answering, “Mhm.”

Wen Zhi asked further, “Does that an you are going to be late?”

Shang Hexing took a napkin, “I suppose so.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Zhi beca sowhat anxious on his behalf, “Then you should head out, don’t worry about .”

Shang Hexing’s eyes crinkled with a smile, “You know I’m worried about you?”

Wen Zhi froze.

Was he delaying his departure because he was worried about her?

Shang Hexing placed the used napkin aside and looked at her, candidly saying, “I am indeed worried about you, afraid that you’ll wander off and won’t be around when I get back.”

Wen Zhi murmured, “I’m not a child, how would I just run off?”

“Wen Zhi,” he called out softly.

Wen Zhi t his gaze, waiting for what he’d say next.

He asked her, “My schedule today is quite packed, and I’ll be back late. Can you guarantee that when I return, you’ll still be at Qionglou?”

Wen Zhi hesitated for two seconds before responding, “I can’t guarantee that.”

Shang Hexing said, “You were quite good at coaxing people this morning, why have you stopped now?”

This morning…

Wen Zhi rembered when she woke up this morning, she made so noise that woke him up, and her first reaction was to coax him back to sleep, which she indeed succeeded at.

But the situation at hand was different.

Facing him sincerely, Wen Zhi said, “I am currently missing, and a lot of things may happen beyond my control, I can’t guarantee that I’ll keep hiding at Qionglou.”

Shang Hexing’s expression sobered slightly, “Mhm.”

She saw the tinge of disappointnt in his eyes and quickly added, “I feel that at least for today, I will stay at Qionglou.”

Shang Hexing slightly lifted his eyelids, his gaze falling upon her face, and then he smiled.

Wen Zhi smiled along with him.

But her smile faded in the next second, as she heard him say, “So now, shouldn’t we settle last night’s account?”

Wen Zhi: “…”

?

“Do you rember what I told you before you fell asleep last night?” he brought up.

Of course, Wen Zhi rembered.

But she didn’t want to admit it and said, “I don’t rember.”

“Unfortunately for you, I do,” Shang Hexing said, standing up and walking towards the sideboard near the bar.
