??Chapter 116: Husband

Chapter 116: Husband

At the Horse Farm, any accident could happen.

Severe injuries, even death, were all possibilities.

Wen Zhi hesitated for a mont, then changed her mind and dismounted, “I think I’ll walk over instead.”

The Rider asked, “Miss, did that sudden incident just now frighten you?”

Wen Zhi candidly replied, “Yes, thinking about it still gives

shivers. That horse suddenly went crazy and jumped around; thankfully, there was no one on its back. Otherwise, it would have been unfortunate, wouldn’t you agree?”

Having said that, Wen Zhi smiled at the Rider.

The wind lifted the bangs off her forehead. She had removed her glasses earlier when changing into her riding attire and donning a hat. Her plain yet beautiful face caught the wind, looking strikingly beautiful.

The Rider was montarily dazed and absent-mindedly replied, “Indeed, it’s a good thing there was no one on the horse’s back, preventing a major accident.”

Wen Zhi walked over to the Rider, casually flicking her long hair and asked, “What will happen to that horse now?”

Being close, the Rider could sll the faint scent of her hair, which was particularly pleasant.

The Rider grasped the reins and slowed his pace to keep in sync with Wen Zhi, telling her, “So of the horses in the stable belong to owners, and they remit money every month for us to take care of them. With today’s incident, the Horse Farm won’t handle it arbitrarily. The person in charge of the Horse Farm will send the horse to a specific location, then report to the horse’s owner, and it will be up to the owner to decide whether to treat it or euthanize it.”

The Rider explained in great detail.

Wen Zhi listened attentively and casually asked afterward, “Who owns the horse from earlier?”

The Rider hesitated for two seconds, then imdiately shook his head, “I’m not quite sure about that.”

Wen Zhi feigned surprise, “Even you Riders might not know?”

The Rider forced a smile, “I was hired as a Rider just half a month ago, and I’m still not familiar with many of the horses.”

Wen Zhi frowned slightly and decided not to press further.

As she walked beside the Rider, she suddenly raised her hand to her stomach, “Oh no…”

Seeing this, the Rider asked anxiously, “Miss, what’s the matter? Do you feel unwell?”

Wen Zhi frowned and shook her head.

The Rider sensed sothing was off and asked again. Wen Zhi then sowhat embarrassedly said, “I might have eaten sothing wrong this morning. My stomach feels uncomfortable. I need to go to the bathroom and might need your help to inform Mrs. Shang that I’ll be there later.”

The Rider was very worried, “Do you need to go to the hospital?”

“It’s not that serious,” Wen Zhi replied diplomatically.

“Alright, I’ll go and tell Mrs. Shang right away,” the Rider agreed.

After watching the Rider lead the horse away, Wen Zhi turned and walked in the direction from which the horse had been taken.

At the back exit of the Horse Farm, there was a dark green horse transport vehicle parked. The driver had climbed out and was chatting with the Horse Farm’s staff, both of them with cigarettes in their mouths, discussing so matter with furrowed brows.

Next to them was a cluster of greenery planted with gardenia flowers and a few bunches of other unrecognizable flowers. Further on, there was an open space where a horse lay on the ground. Wen Zhi recognized it as the horse that had gone wild earlier in the Horse Farm.

At that mont, two staff mbers approached, one squatting down to check the horse, the other holding a notebook nearby, recording sothing with a very serious expression.

Wen Zhi lightened her footsteps, making sure they didn’t notice her.

She wanted to eavesdrop, but they were a bit too far away.

Just then, the Horse Farm manager’s phone rang. Wen Zhi quickly moved behind the horse transport vehicle while the person was distracted with the call.

“I understand, once the second horse cos out, I’ll send it right away.”

“Don’t worry, I know how to handle it.”

When the manager of the Horse Farm answered the phone, he spoke with great respect to the person on the other end. Wen Zhi listened quietly, her face showing a peculiar expression. The person said to wait for the second horse to co out, implying that another horse would suffer an accident?

Were two horses going to go mad today?

“Old Chen, when will that horse be taken out?” The driver asked.

The Horse Farm manager, called Old Chen, put away his phone and took a deep drag of his cigarette before saying, “We still have to wait.”

The driver brushed off so ash, clicking his tongue and shaking his head, “These rich people really don’t value animal lives, saying kill and they kill.”

Old Chen had been at the Horse Farm for many years and had seen many spirited horses, so he was sowhat sentintal about this incident. But since he had taken the money, he wasn’t in a position to be outraged and rely sighed, “Who makes us work specifically for these rich folks?”

Hearing this, Wen Zhi understood everything.

So, soone was plotting sothing.

And it might even involve her…

Just as Wen Zhi was preparing to find a chance to slip away, her cellphone suddenly rang in her pocket.

It was so sudden, catching Wen Zhi unprepared.

“Who? Who’s there?”

It was the voice of the Horse Farm manager, Old Chen. Wen Zhi heard his approaching footsteps, getting closer, and another set of footsteps, the driver’s.

Those two workers also looked over, their expressions wary.

Wen Zhi shut her eyes tight, knowing that no matter which direction she chose, she couldn’t easily walk away with four pairs of eyes watching her.

“Did you bring soone else?” Old Chen asked the driver.

The driver, looking puzzled, shook his head, “No, I ca by myself.”

Old Chen was suspicious and then turned to look towards the back of the car, calling out, “Who’s back there? Co out…

Wen Zhi erged.

She pressed the phone that was on a call to her ear, looking around curiously, and said to the person on the phone, “Honey, I think I’m lost. I’ve wandered into a weird place—ah—!!”

Wen Zhi suddenly scread.

She stared at the horse on the ground, horrified, and said into the phone, “Honey, I just saw a dead horse, oooh, I’m so scared.”

The phone was in a call state.

Unfortunately, the call that exposed her was made by ng Fan.

Wen Zhi trusted in her unspoken understanding with ng Fan and quickly picked a few gardenia flowers nearby, then answered the call from ng Fan, pretending to be lost on purpose.

She called ng Fan “Honey,” a tone and manner of speaking that was off, sothing ng Fan would definitely notice.

However, what Wen Zhi didn’t know was that on the other end of the phone wasn’t ng Fan, but—

“Who are you?” Old Chen suddenly asked.

Wen Zhi, clearly shaken, asked in return, “And who are you?”

Old Chen and the driver exchanged glances, both unsure of what was happening, but both were cautious because of the conversation they just had. This woman who appeared out of nowhere could have heard everything!

Wen Zhi displayed an extrely distraught deanor.

Seizing the mont, she tried to run back the way she ca, but was suddenly blocked by Old Chen, who harshly questioned her, “Who exactly are you? Where did you co from?”

Seeing Old Chen’s fierce and nacing expression, Wen Zhi was terrified and struggled fiercely, “Move! If you don’t move, you are done for, do you know who my husband is!”
