Mr. Lu asked her sternly, "What happened on the plane?"
The accident had just occurred, and the investigation from all sides had yet to reach a conclusion, with rumors flying everywhere. The most reliable information had to co from those who were on the plane.
Du Shuxian urged anxiously, "Hurry and tell us, what exactly happened? My son is always fine when flying, why did sothing happen when you’re with him?"
Su Xingyu felt a stifling breath in her chest. What did Du Shuxian an? It sounded as if she was implying that Su Xingyu had caused Lu Shifeng’s trouble. However, in front of so many elders, and outside the operating room, she had no choice but to silently endure this. Just as she was about to explain what happened on the plane, Mrs. Lu waved her over—
"Co sit, Xingyu, you’re still carrying injuries."
The old lady’s elegant face seed to be covered with a layer of frost, clearly displeased.
Only then did Mr. Lu realize he had been too hasty. Even if he could confront the whole world with a stern face, he wouldn’t dare to offend his beloved wife. He hurriedly said to Su Xingyu, "Go and sit with your grandmother," and then turned to instruct the family mbers nearby, "Go get a glass of water for Xingyu, and also call the family doctor to co and support, quickly."
One of the family mbers rushed off.
Du Shuxian saw all this and was very angry in her heart. Why were her in-laws so good to this jinx? Clearly, it was when she was with Shifeng that sothing happened!
But no matter how many grievances Du Shuxian held in her heart, she dared not act out, so she could only stand aside sulking.
Su Xingyu sat next to Mrs. Lu, holding the hot water brought by the family. After thanking them, she calmly began to recount what happened on the plane, "This trip was too rushed, and booking private flights was too slow, so Shifeng and I took a regular comrcial flight. Midway through the flight, I heard an explosion, maybe the engine blew up... The stewardess said many of the instrunts were failing, and the altitude and speed couldn’t be read. Fortunately, when we returned from Hanyu, we brought a 1000mm super-long-distance lens..."
Her speech was clear and lodious, as she vividly presented the events to everyone, making them feel as if they were there, their hearts pounding.
She finally finished, only to find Mrs. Lu tightly clutching her hand, the touch was cold.
She gently covered Mrs. Lu’s hand with hers, "Grandma, don’t worry, didn’t we make it back alive? Lu Shifeng will be alright."
Only then did Mrs. Lu seem to awaken from a dream, also sighing, "Yes, thank heavens you both made it back alive. Xingyu, thank you for saving Shifeng’s life."
Su Xingyu softly replied, "There’s no need to thank ; he’s my husband. This ti, it was by working together with the captain and others that we survived. No one could be missing."
Just as she finished speaking, Du Shuxian, silent for a long while, sneered, "Working together? I think you were just relying on my son! Anyone could take pictures, but if it weren’t for Shifeng calculating the data, none of you would have survived! I see it wasn’t you saving him, but he saving you!"
Su Xingyu glanced at the aggressively posturing Du Shuxian, unwilling to argue over such aningless matters, she agreed, "He saved ."
"You!" Du Shuxian, feeling like she punched into soft cotton, saw her admitting so easily, was not happy but even angrier.
"Enough, Shuxian, say no more," Mr. Lu sternly ordered, "Photography isn’t as simple as you think. That super-long lens might give you focus, but it can’t provide the angle data with the subject, whether it’s 30 degrees or 35 degrees depends entirely on Xingyu’s eye judgnt. At such distances, a one-degree error could be fatal; switching photographers could an a plane crash!"
Du Shuxian was startled, "I, I was just speaking off the cuff."
"Off the cuff?" Mr. Lu, rarely showing true anger, "The fact this plane landed safely was largely due to Xingyu. She’s still injured; if you don’t want to stay here, go ho and wait for news!"
Du Shuxian was thoroughly frightened, hurriedly admitting her mistake, "Dad, I didn’t an it, I was wrong, please let stay here to wait for Shifeng to co out of surgery; he’s my only son."
Even Su Xingyu helped plead, "Grandfather, Mother was just anxious for a mont, please don’t bla her." She wasn’t ekly enduring; rather, no matter what, Du Shuxian was Lu Shifeng’s mother. She must try to nd relations with Du Shuxian, at least not have a heated argunt every ti they t; otherwise, how would Lu Shifeng be able to be in the middle for long?
Mr. Lu gave Su Xingyu an approving glance.
Since Lu Shifeng brought her into the family, Mr. Lu had been observing this granddaughter-in-law, seeing if she could take up the role of head of the family. Now it seed, though young and usually quiet and unobtrusive, in the face of real events, she was a model of competence, courage, and responsibility. Remarkably, she not only remained calm but also didn’t make a fuss, boast, or claim credit afterward. She even knew to tolerate those who were unreasonable, a quality most people lacked.
Take Du Shuxian, for example, who wore her emotions on her sleeve, lacked plans when problems arose, and liked to cause scenes regardless of the situation.
In comparison, Su Xingyu was a much more ideal choice as the eldest daughter-in-law.
If Su Xingyu was willing to make a good life with Lu Shifeng, then let them live well. Her humble origins weren’t a major issue; after all, her lineage was noble, no worse than any Zhuang Family. Mr. Lu had a tiny bit of comfort in his heart; since Mu Liancheng’s death, he often lived in pain and guilt. If Mu Liancheng’s granddaughter could manage being the head wife of the Lu family well, it would be so consolation.
The group waited outside the operating room for a long ti, and then Lu Shifeng was wheeled out.
Su Xingyu hurried to the bedside, nervously calling out, "Shifeng! Lu Shifeng!"
It was the first ti she’d seen him like this, lying on the hospital bed with his eyes tightly closed, covered with light green dical sheets, his chiseled features pale and bloodless. For a mont she had the illusion that he might die just like this. Yet she quickly dismissed this unworthy thought; he was blessed and fated to be safe, how could anything happen to him?
"Doctor, how is he?" she heard Du Shuxian ask anxiously nearby.
The lead surgeon, while taking off his gloves, replied, "Mr. Lu suffered an impact during the plane landing, injuring his shoulder and back, with a comminuted fracture of the scapula, a spinal fracture, and so external injuries leading to excessive blood loss." As he spoke, he muttered to himself strangely, "Usually these kinds of plane crash injuries are mostly frontal chest injuries, how did he injure his back?"
