Seven Sins System Chapter 490. I’m Not Hiding

“If she doesn’t find the source, I’ll have to take more drastic asures. But for now, we’re playing the waiting ga. As much as I hate it, we need more information before we can act,” I admitted. I didn’t like waiting, but we didn’t have enough to act decisively yet.

Evie nodded slowly. “I see,” she said, her voice calm but thoughtful.

Just then, the bell rang, signaling the start of the next class. They both glanced at the clock, realizing they were running late. With hurried movents, Rachel and Evie stood up from my lap and gathered their things.

“We’ll talk more later, Doc,” Rachel said, her bunny ears twitching as she shot one last smile. “And don’t forget, we want more than just a quickie next ti.”

Evie chuckled, her nine tails swishing behind her as she gave a playful wink. “See you around, Doc. Don’t let the demons bite.”

They headed for the door, their footsteps mixing with the sounds of students rushing through the hallways. As the door closed behind them, I sighed deeply, leaning back in my chair and letting the tension ease from my shoulders. For a mont, I closed my eyes, savoring the brief peace and quiet.

“Puriel,” I called out, my tone relaxed but sharp. “How long are you going to hide there?”

There was a brief pause, followed by a soft, almost indignant voice from across the room. “I’m not hiding,” Puriel responded coolly. “I know you knew I was here.”

I opened my eyes and turned toward the sound of her voice. There she was, sitting on the edge of one of the infirmary beds, the curtains half-drawn around her. She was watching with that familiar, unreadable expression. Her hair frad her face perfectly.

“Then why didn’t you greet ?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Puriel gave a half-smile, her eyes narrowing slightly. “You were busy… making out with your two won. I didn’t want to disturb you.”

I could hear the thinly veiled jealousy in her tone, and I couldn’t help but smirk. “Yet, you’re still here,” I said, leaning forward, resting my elbows on my knees.

“I had to stay,” she replied, her voice firm but controlled. “You were talking about , weren’t you?”

I chuckled, sitting up straighter. “Yeah, I was. But you have to admit, you’ve been part of this conversation the whole ti.”

"You plan to use ," she said, her tone neutral, but I could sense the edge beneath her words.

I turned my head toward her, raising an eyebrow. “Use you? That’s a pretty harsh accusation.” My voice carried a hint of amusent. “Let’s not forget who used who first. You have used to find the cult, rember? I’d say we’re more like business partners than anything else.”

Puriel’s eyes narrowed slightly, a glint of challenge sparking in them. “You surely know how to twist words,” she said, crossing her legs as she leaned back, her posture more relaxed but her tone still guarded.

I let out a small laugh, leaning back in my own chair. “What can I say? All devils know how to speak.”

Her lips curved into a wry smile. “Indeed.” She paused for a mont, her gaze fixed on as if she were weighing her next statent. “But I’m not so pawn in your gas, Azrael.”

I raised a hand in mock surrender. “Relax, Puriel. I’m not trying to turn you into a pawn. Like I said, we’re partners. We’re both after the sa thing, aren’t we? We both want to know who’s behind these demons and what they want with .”

She studied for a mont, her expression unreadable. “I know that,” she said finally. “But you’re used to getting what you want through manipulation. You forget that I’ve known devils like you for a long ti.”

I smirked, crossing my arms. “And yet, here you are. Working with . So either I’m not like the others, or you see the value in this partnership.”

Puriel sighed softly. “Maybe. But that doesn’t an I trust you completely. Not yet.”

“That’s fair,” I replied, my tone surprisingly genuine. “But trust isn’t sothing that cos easily to either of us, is it? You don’t trust , and I don’t fully trust you. But we both know we need each other.” ‘But I know you have feelings for ,’ I added internally. Despite wanting to say it out loud, I decided to hold my tongue.

She tilted her head slightly, as if considering my words. “So, what’s your next move, then? You’re relying on to find the source of the white crystals, but what about you? Are you just waiting for answers, or do you have a plan of your own?”

I shrugged. “Honestly, I don’t have much to go on right now. The demons we’ve encountered didn’t leave enough clues, and whoever this ‘master’ is, they’ve been good at staying in the shadows. My investigation feels like I’m chasing smoke. That's why I’m relying on you and your search for the source of the crystals. It’s the only solid lead we’ve got.”

Puriel nodded slowly, her gaze sharp as she listened. “So, you really are in the dark about all of this,” she said, a slight note of surprise in her voice. “I didn’t expect the great Lord of Wrath to admit to being lost.”

I chuckled, twirling in my chair playfully before I stopped and gave her a smirk. “Even the most powerful devil can’t know everything. Sotis, we have to admit when we’re stuck and need help.” I gave her a pointed look. “That’s why we’re in this together, isn’t it?”

Puriel raised an eyebrow, her lips quirking into a half-smile. “I suppose. Though I never imagined I’d be working so closely with a devil, especially not one who loves toying with people as much as you do.”

“Co on, you enjoy it,” I said with a grin, teasing her just enough to see that flicker of annoyance cross her face. “Admit it, Puriel. You like the back-and-forth, the challenge. You wouldn’t be here otherwise.”
