Seven Sins System Chapter 440. Rookie Mistake

The room was quiet, the kind of quiet that made hyper-aware of every little sound. The ticking of the clock on the wall, the hum of the fluorescent lights, the birds’ chirping sound from the park outside – all of it blended into a stillness that was only occasionally broken by the rustling of papers or the creak of a chair.

I stood in front of my desk, the faux wood surface cluttered with dical charts and vials of potions.

Puriel was standing by the window, her gaze seemingly lost in the distance.

“Are you going to et Katrina?” she asked, her voice breaking the silence.

“Yeah,” I replied, trying to keep my tone casual.

“She had asked to co to her office hours ago and I said I would co as soon as my work was finished. There weren’t any students coming to this infirmary, so I had no reason to delay more.”

I tried to sound nonchalant, but Puriel’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly.

“Okay,” she said simply, but there was a note in her voice and I caught sothing different in it.

I frowned, the corners of my mouth turning down. There was sothing in Puriel's tone that felt off.

I wanted to ask her about it, to dig deeper into the strange feeling it gave , but I hesitated. Exposing that I'd noticed such a fine detail felt... risky. It wasn't like to be so hesitant and concerned about her. But sothing about this situation, about Puriel, made second-guess myself.

Instead of addressing her tone, I decided to deflect.

"Are you going to wait for here?" I asked, trying to keep my voice casual.

"I an, I can tell her that I asked for your help to replace for a while since you understand a bit about dicine." I smiled, hoping it looked more natural than it felt.

Inside, I cringed.

'Ah crap, I over-explained,' I rebuked myself. Overexplaining was a rookie mistake, the kind of thing mortals did when they were nervous or lying. I knew better than to fall into that trap.

In all my centuries of existence, I'd mastered the art of deception and subtlety. But here I was, fumbling over my words like a novice. Why did Puriel have this effect on ? I could only hope she didn't notice my slip-up.

"I guess I'll go for a walk," Puriel said, shaking her head slightly as if to clear so lingering thought.

Her expression was a mixture of frustration and resignation. She turned and took a couple of steps toward the door. I followed her instinctively.

After a couple of steps, a sharp knocking sound reverberated through the room.

We both froze.

The door swung open before I could say "Co in," and there she was, the figure I hadn't seen for a long, long ti.

Her long red hair cascaded down her back, as vibrant and fiery as I rembered.

Ti had touched her face which made her look more mature, but the essence of who she was remained unchanged. It had been three hundred years since I first saved her. She wore high-class clothing, a tailored shirt that fit her form perfectly, and long trousers that spoke of both elegance and authority.

Her eyes widened as her gaze landed on , and for a mont, we seed to hold our breath. It was as if ti itself had paused. The myriad emotions that flickered across her face – surprise, recognition, sothing deeper and more complex – mirrored the tumult within .

"My Lord…”

The words tumbled out of her mouth, unbidden and filled with awe. Her shock was palpable, evident in her wide eyes and the tremor in her voice.

It had been centuries since anyone had called that in this realm, and hearing it now, from her, felt like a jolt.

I never revealed my face during the war three hundred years ago. My face remained hidden behind a mask that also served as my crown. It was a strategic decision, allowing the freedom to move about the mortal realm with my true face whenever I grew bored of the endless battle. Even my closest confidantes, those like Red who had fought by my side, had never seen my face. I had always maintained that barrier.

Red had been more than just a soldier. She had been a loyal and fierce warrior, soone I could rely on in the heat of battle. Despite her proximity to , I had never allowed her to see behind the mask. She had slept on my lap a few tis, but even then, the mask had stayed firmly in place. Yet here she was, recognizing with just one glance. The shock was mutual.

'Well, I guess I can't hide my identity from her,' I thought.

I was just about to speak when Red's gaze shifted sharply to Puriel. The transformation in her expression was imdiate and intense. The recognition was instantaneous and charged with emotion.

"Goddess…" Red hissed, the word dripping with displeasure.

Her body tensed, and I could see her fist clenching, the skin turning reddish as her Mana surged in response to her emotions. The room seed to crackle with the sudden influx of her vampire power.

Puriel, to her credit, remained calm. Her eyes flicked to Red, assessing and composed, though I could sense the readiness in her stance. She was prepared for a confrontation if it ca to that, but there was no imdiate aggression in her posture.
