The rain ca quickly and left just as fast. In no ti at all, the sun was shining again.
The sun was scorching and dazzling near noon, making the students feel like they were being played by the weather.
For those whose clothes were soaked, it was even more frustrating.
Fortunately, all the stores had prepared for this and had towels for sale. They made a killing off of their hapless custors.
However, Li Changhe’s mood didn’t improve with the rising temperature.
Xiao Nan’s face turned slightly red, and she naturally had no reason to refuse Li Changhe’s protection. She gently held onto Li Changhe’s clothes and felt his body tense for a mont.
She whispered, "Goudan?"
If it was any other ti, Li Changhe would probably have said so cheesy words to cover up his racing heartbeat when he saw Xiao Nan like this and heard her softly calling his nickna.
But now, he isn’t in the right state of mind for that. He bought a towel to dry Xiao Nan’s long hair and sighed, "Girl, we’re in trouble."
On the other hand,
[Story characters escaped? Holy shit! Did that fat guy Mr. All-known tell you that?]
He Feng wasn’t far from Li Changhe, just on the next street over. He was chatting with his classmates.
He took a sharp breath when he saw the ssage from [Uncle Eight-direction] in [Friends].
The escape of story characters has always been a headache for both [Players] and official organizations.
The biggest incident was when a Fantasy Species who called himself ’Lancelot’ destroyed a city. He escaped from a story mission by accident. It was said that it happened because a [Player] failed to complete the [Task] and got teleported away, by chance taking Lancelot with them.
At least the [Player] wasn’t killed in that incident. Otherwise, if ’Lancelot’ was given a [Player] identity, he would have wreaked havoc on more than just one city.
If Li Changhe hadn’t successfully killed the lord and destroyed the teleportation gate during the [Chang’an Plague], the Great Tang would have just been an ordinary instance in the storyline. Other [Players] who ca later would experience a condensed version of the original story in a replicated instance.
It wouldn’t have evolved into the [Eternal Prosperous Tang Dynasty] world line.
The main concern is that if Li Changhe and the others failed their mission, they would have died. The rat people might have then gained [Player] identities and even co to the real world.
This is what they call the escape of story characters, or affecting this world. It’s often the worst-case scenario, causing the most damage and impact. It’s the primary responsibility of governnt agencies from various countries to deal with this.
After all, it’s the [Players] who ssed up.
Upon hearing the news, Xiao Nan’s face turned a little pale. As a [Great Wall Player], she knew too well the danger this posed.
Slapping away the water stains on her body with either a [Skill] or so kind of [Effect], the once soaked dress was instantly revitalized.
"So you’re capable of doing this?... You just wanted to take advantage of ." Li Changhe muttered under his breath. It probably wasn’t a [Skill] since there was no fluctuation in [Skill].
Xiao Nan frowned and smacked the rainwater off Li Changhe’s clothes. She snorted and said, "I have the right. What’s wrong with taking advantage of you?"
"Damn, you’re so domineering. Co on, Mr. Xiao, help get rid of the water too. We’re old acquaintances." He Feng ca running over, clearly overhearing their conversation. He didn’t hesitate to seize the opportunity to ask for a favor as well.
Xiao Nan gave a disdainful smile, punched He Feng, and ignored his contorted expression. She considered this as getting rid of the water for him.
He Feng didn’t stay any longer. After briefly chatting with the two, he quickly left, acting like soone who didn’t want to be a third wheel.
"Do we continue the plan?" In his consciousness, He Feng asked Li Changhe through [Friends].
Li Changhe hesitated for a mont: "Let’s try to leave first. If we can, we’ll go along with the school bus as if nothing happened and avoid triggering any [Task]."
It’s too dangerous. If we get into a conflict with other [Players] in this situation, the danger will increase significantly.
Li Changhe’s attitude towards enemies is either not to act at all, or to be ruthless. In this situation, being ruthless would an we have to eliminate everyone on the opposing side.
Triggering an event now at such a crucial mont and consuming each other’s resources would be the sa as seeking our own death.
"No can do. I’ve tried several thods. I cannot leave a certain area. But it doesn’t feel like it’s a [Counter Space] or [Present Disconnected Space]." He Feng walked back and forth on the edge of the ancient town more than a dozen tis, only to mysteriously return to his starting point. He even hitched a ride on a passing vehicle, which mysteriously drove everyone back. The passengers thought the driver must have lost his way.
"Is it so kind of array?" Li Changhe murmured. He had had quite a hard ti dealing with those extraordinary powers during the Great Tang scenario.
While He Feng was experinting, Li Changhe learned so information from the shops in the ancient town.
Three days ago, there was an abrupt downpour in this area. The rain was short-lived, with a typhoon seemingly approaching one mont and the sun coming out the next.
The teorological departnt sent people who went up to Jiushan Temple. Seemingly to investigate the weather anomaly but haven’t returned yet.
So people went to Jiushan Temple to worship, only to find that the temple door was closed. They knocked for a long ti, but the response from inside was that they were setting up a device to monitor the weather and would not open the door for the ti being.
This didn’t pose a problem for the shops in the ancient town. They were waiting peacefully for the tourists to return. It was just a shower, after all, and selling so towels and umbrellas wouldn’t hurt their business.
Li Changhe, however, shook his head slightly. Those so-called teorological departnt personnel were probably just Great Wall players in disguise.
There must be a serious problem with Jiushan Temple, and it’s likely that they’re under so kind of restriction that prevents them from asking for help.
[Friends], which is a high-level feature, can communicate information anywhere, except in [Instances] where real-ti communication is stopped.
The fact that no help request has been received by the [Great Wall] divisions and headquarters up till now is puzzling. Could Jiushan Temple be considered an instance? It shouldn’t be since they can communicate with the outside world.
Furthermore, if they can communicate with the outside world, they should be able to send a ssage for help through soone else.
Why, then, are they locked up inside?
Xiao Nan had also contacted her cousin and the [Great Wall Players].
"There’s a bit of trouble. I can contact my cousin and others within the ancient town, but we haven’t received any replies from the Great Wall division in Yanyun." Xiao Nan spoke softly, "This seems more like a domain-type skill with a limited range. I don’t know if it’s an [Evolution Ga] or the work of a Transcendent."
Li Changhe tried to contact Mr. Bai, who was supposed to be on standby outside the ancient town to provide support anyti. He had contacted Mr. Bai before getting off the school bus, saying that he would wait two kiloters away from the ancient town, ready to respond at any ti. After all, Li Changhe didn’t want more people to know about Xiao Nan’s identity, so he planned it this way.
But now, Mr. Bai, who was supposed to be two kiloters away, could not be reached, either by phone or through [Friends].
It seed like a [Present Disconnected Space], but the other students, teachers, and tourists had no restrictions whatsoever.
Li Changhe didn’t dare to ask for help through them blindly. There must be a reason why the people in Jiushan Temple were doing this.
"Damn, we still have to visit Jiushan Temple." Li Changhe glanced at the ancient town. There were actually quite a few [Players] inside.
After all, almost all of the second and third-year high school students were here. This unexpected event had dragged all of the [Players] hiding in Yanyun Middle School into it.
The communication restriction seems to only affect [Players], while ordinary people don’t experience any anomaly.
"Heh, if only you [Great Wall] guys also had this kind of ability, you wouldn’t have any trouble finding [Players] would you, look at how many there are here."
Xiao Nan gave him a sideways glare, thinking that he would be the first one caught!
"Alright, let’s stick to the plan. We still have to go to Jiushan Temple!" Li Changhe felt his arm being squeezed tightly and grinned.
He then turned his back to the visitors in the ancient town.
"Let’s see if they dare to make a move."
