Christian looked over at and smiled, "What do you think?".
I lifted my head, tapping my index finger on my lips, "Hmmm, I think it was a bit of both. But from what I heard, there were a few obvious problems with the proposals".
Christian’s eyes widened in surprise. He ca over and sat beside on the bed, "Now I’m interested. What about the proposal seed problematic to you?".
"Well, for starters...all of the gems they ntioned were last season’s trends. If he had done any kind of research, they would know that sapphires would be the best option due to the singer Ria’s recent proposal. Her sapphire engagent ring went viral, and now everyone will be following that trend."
Christian looked at with interest, waiting for to continue.
"The proposal with the diamonds would be a safe option, but focusing on pendant necklaces would be a complete waste. The better option would be choker necklaces and tennis bracelets. Both are tiless and luxurious, and would cater to the wealthy upper class."
Christian smiled brightly at , "I must admit I am very impressed, Leslie! Your insights on this are more thorough than those of most of my top executives. Your father ntioned you did well in school, but this is truly impressive."
I blushed at his words. It was the first ti soone praised for sothing other than being ’virtuous’ or ’proper’.
"Thank you," I smiled, looking down at the empty glass of water in my hands.
"If your father knew about how gifted you are, he would never have sent you to work at my company", added Christian.
"Haha!" I laughed as if that was the funniest thing I’ve heard.
"My father couldn’t care less if I was smart or stupid, as long as I was virtuous. He never once considered allowing to work at the family business".
Christian frowned, hearing how little my father cared about .
He pulled closer to his side and said, "Well, I should be thankful to Patriarch Moresi, who sent his most talented daughter to work at my company. Truly, I am so lucky to have you here, Leslie".
Once again, his words struck a chord inside of . His words were genuine, not just simple flattery.
"And I’m lucky that I have a place where I can be a real person, not a porcelain doll that is only nice to look at," I replied.
Christian looked up and down, checking out my naked body.
"Well...you are definitely good to look at", he joked.
I rolled my eyes and pushed him playfully. I never expected the ’cold’ and ’overbearing’ CEO to have such a playful side, but it added to his charm.
Christian pulled out his cell phone and sent a few ssages. After he finished, he turned to look at and said, "Congratulations, Leslie, you’re now in charge of that project you heard those god-awful proposals on."
My eyes widened and my heart raced! "What!? Christian, are you sure? Isn’t this a multimillion-dollar investnt?".
"It is, and I am sure. You’re more than capable of this. And even if you do fuck it up, which I know you won’t, it won’t bankrupt the company", said Christian smiling at .
"Unless you don’t want to", he added.
I jumped up, "No! No! I want it! I’ll take the project!". I was so happy I wanted to jump around and dance.
Am I dreaming?
I rolled over on the bed and climbed on top of Christian, leaning down to kiss him. I was so happy to finally do so aningful work, especially since it was one of the things I’ve dreamt of doing for so long!
Not to ntion that Christian trusted enough to place in charge of such a huge and important project. My heart was pounding from happiness and excitent, I couldn’t contain it.
Christian chuckled at my enthusiasm, kissing back.
"And here I was planning on not giving you any work at all. If only my other staff had your enthusiasm toward their jobs", he laughed.
"No work? What would I be doing here all day then?" I asked.
Christian smiled and leaned over to whisper in my ear, "Keeping company, of course."
There was playfulness in his expression, but I didn’t doubt his words. We both craved each other’s touch as if it were the most addictive drug.
"Mmm, yeah, I’ll keep you company," I leaned over, kissing him once more, "In between my work, that is."
"Good, because I would have to really rethink assigning you the project if it kept you away from ."
He placed his arms around , making lean into his chest comfortably.
"I’m still surprised your father suggested that you co work for ", said Christian.
I felt my stomach twist in a knot at the thought. My father’s piercing words rang in my mind, and I knew that as soon as I got ho today, he would ask about any information I managed to gather about Christian.
No, I don’t want to be used, especially as a spy.
After making up my mind, I pulled away and turned to face Christian.
"It’s not surprising if you realize the true motive behind it", I said, looking down.
"Motive?"
"Before I ca here today, my father invited into his study. He’s using as a spy to monitor you. I’m supposed to go back and report on who you’ve t with, along with any other information", I said, hanging my head down.
After a brief pause, Christian lifted my chin to look him in the eyes.
"Thank you for telling , Leslie. It feels good knowing that you are different from your family," he said with a soft smile.
"Don’t you find it repulsive? Why aren’t you more angry?" I asked, surprised. I was expecting him to get angry and storm out, or cast aside and scream.
Christian ran his hands down my cheeks as he looked deeply into my eyes, "Do you really think I didn’t know this? No offense to you, but your father would never do sothing like this without a certain motive. I’m simply relieved that you willingly inford about it."
His words were very gentle, and for the first ti, I was able to look into his eyes and see a semblance of warmth.
"You knew?", my face flushed red with embarrassnt, "What would you have done if I never told you?"
I should have said it sooner.
My heart trembled as I waited for his answer. I could only picture myself in his situation— angry and betrayed.
