There was clearly more to the story than what Abigail let on. She was hiding the fact that she worked at the auction house, and nobody wanted to hire her, even though she had a good background.

Why is she hiding it?

"Listen. I’ll send a ssage to my assistant to schedule an interview for you so that we can place you according to your strengths."

Her eyes glead with happiness. "Thank you! Thank you so much! I’m willing to do anything!"

My expression turned serious. "Then, please tell about why you left the Moresi Auction House?"

This ti, she hesitated but didn’t flat-out deny working there. She looked around nervously, as if she was being watched.

"Perhaps we can speak sowhere more private?" she asked in a very low voice.

Why is she so nervous?

"That’s my car over there," I pointed, "If you don’t mind, we can speak there. The traffic still hasn’t cleared out..."

Her eyes wandered around, checking the surroundings before nodding. "Okay."

We both walked over to my car. She sat down in the passenger seat and waited for to roll up the windows.

"You’re safe here. I can assure you that no one will hear what you say in here," I said, trying to get her to relax.

She nodded, "Thank you. It’s just ever since I left, strange things started happening."

"Strange things?"

"Yes. They let go a few days after the Sophia season launch event. I was trying to be helpful and help out with loading and unloading the goods for the next auction, but apparently there are strict rules on who can do this job...so I was let go."

She fidgeted nervously as she spoke. Her eyes were constantly flickering outside as if to ensure that no one was coming to find her.

"Let go for sothing so small? That seems a little much." I said, trying to get more information out.

She finally looked over at . Her eyes were red and watery. "Please don’t tell anyone what I’m about to say. I don’t even know if what I heard was real. I just can’t get it out of my head."

"Abigail. I promise. If it makes you feel any better, I’m a little suspicious of that auction house. It’s why I’m asking you this," I said as calmly as I could.

"You are? Oh, thank goodness, I thought I was crazy."

"Yes, now please tell what you thought you heard, as crazy as it sounds, it could really help ," I coaxed.

She nodded, wiping a few tears from her eyes. "That night, when I went over to help unload the cargo, everything was inside large wooden crates. It took a few people to unload each one.

I joined a random team that looked like they were missing a person and helped them push the crate. Initially, I thought these crates would be going into the giant safe where all of the other auction items are usually held, but instead, we pushed the crate to a small side room.

It was there that I heard it. Inside of the large crate, I could swear that I heard the cry. A human cry. It sounded like the person’s mouth was taped over. But the muffled cries were desperate. They startled so much that I stepped away from the crate in horror.

The others looked at like I was crazy, and it was then that a scary-looking man scolded for being in a restricted area...

I only wanted to be helpful."

Tears ran down her face. Her hands trembled as she spoke.

"It was the following morning when my supervisor let go. In my anger, I questioned him about the contents of the crate. I told him what I had heard and that they should investigate, but he assured that the crate only contained exotic animals..."

After that, no matter where I went, I couldn’t find another job, no matter how nial. I’ve also been feeling like soone’s been following . I can’t stand it anymore!"

She finally broke down crying. I handed her a tissue while thinking about her words. I didn’t believe that those crates contained exotic animals.

I need to get down there and see for myself.

"Could you tell more about this side entrance? I wish to investigate this matter," I said softly.

She wiped her eyes with the tissue and nodded.

"It’s actually a very easy to find room, right at the entrance. When you enter, it’s the first room on your left. Inside is a hidden door that looks like it leads to a storage room downstairs, but I never got a chance to go in."

Hidden in plain sight!

I nodded, "Thank you so much for all of this information. I already sent my assistant your information. He will personally interview you and place you into the departnt he feels you’ll be best suited for. And don’t worry, security is tight inside the company, so no one will be able to follow you inside."

I handed her a business card with the company na and address on it.

She wiped her eyes once more and accepted the business card. "Thank you so much! I-" her eyes widened, "Vittoria Global?! No way, it’s been my dream to work there since finishing school!"

Her eyes traveled up to et mine, "CEO Vittoria?" she asked in a barely audible whisper.

I smiled and nodded, "That’s . Welco to Vittoria Global.."

The mont I said those words, a sharp pain spread through my head as a new fragnted mory sprang up. It was of saying the sa words to Leslie as she lay naked on my desk. Her flushed cheeks and misty eyes looked back up at .

Holy fuck. That happened?

"Thank you again for the opportunity, CEO Vittoria! I’ll work hard!" she said, opening the car door to step out.

Her words snapped out of my thoughts, "Hmm? Oh, yes. Thank you for the information. Have a good day."

After she left, I went back to replaying that new mory in my head over and over again. It was the first day that Leslie ’worked’ at my company, and the first day that neither of us got any work done.

Honk! Honk!

The car behind honked its horn multiple tis, startling . I was too lost in thought to notice that the traffic in front of cleared out, and that I was the one now causing traffic.

I quickly pressed on the gas and drove forward. I was glad that the traffic jam was over, but there was only one small problem. Sothing in my pants was fighting to break free. This made it very uncomfortable to sit, let alone drive.
