Li Chong finally understood, could it be that Lv Jing took his people and caused so trouble?
He hurriedly distanced himself from Lv Jing. Mr. Jin waved his hand: "It’s useless; I’m just following orders. If you want to bla soone, bla yourself for falling into the hands of a woman."
Li Chong wanted to kill Lv Jing, he asked, "Who exactly did she offend?"
At this mont, he really wanted to slap himself. An Lingling had clearly warned him, but he didn’t take it seriously!
Mr. Jin gave a sinister smile, "The person she offended has few rivals in the country. Tell , what chance do you think you have of surviving this ti?"
Li Chong peed in his pants.
Mr. Jin, disgusted, waved his hand in front of his nose and said, "Lv Jing will be sent to South Arica to entertain guests. I have a casino there, and soone will keep a close eye on her. She will live a dark life without the will to live or the ans to die... Ha, ha, what an overconfident woman."
Li Chong shivered. Mr. Jin’s thods were indeed ruthless! What about him? What fate awaited him?
Mr. Jin seed to know what he was thinking and explained, "Lv Jing instigated you to do things, so naturally, you can’t escape the consequences..."
Li Chong begged for rcy, "Mr. Jin, please spare my worthless life. I truly knew nothing about this!"
Mr. Jin laughed darkly, "What are you talking about? I am a law-abiding citizen. How could I do sothing illegal like taking a life? Just stay put in the ntal hospital."
"I... I don’t have a ntal disorder..."
"Right, you don’t. But once you live with those who do, over ti, you’ll beco just like them."
The fear in Li Chong’s eyes could no longer be contained. He wanted to shout for rcy, but Mr. Jin had already walked away without looking back.
An Junxi and Gu Yikun went to work. He said he would handle the important matters over the next few days and then take so ti off to be with her.
She said there was no need to take a break just for her. President Gu said, "Employees have annual leave, but as the boss, I haven’t taken an annual leave in years. Consider it keeping company."
What could An Junxi say? She was actually looking forward to a vacation too.
Gu Yikun had several etings in the morning, so An Junxi stayed in his lounge to quietly read a book.
The matter of her joining Wanling Entertainnt was temporarily put on hold. Gu Yikun said they could consider it once her health improved.
They were going to have lunch at her parents’ house today. She had inford them beforehand that she and Yikun would be coming over for lunch. Both parents were delighted. Half an hour before the end of the workday, Mrs. An called her, "Xi Xi, I made your favorite seafood and Yikun’s preferred soup. What ti does Yikun get off work?"
Looking at the ti, An Junxi said, "There’s still half an hour. No need to rush, take it slow."
The joy in Mrs. An’s voice was evident, "No rush, no rush. I won’t disturb your work then. Bye for now."
They had been in Yan City for a while. Initially, they had trouble adapting to the big city life and often thought about returning ho. Gradually, they beca familiar with the other elderly residents in the community. Mr. An would play chess and practice Tai Chi with other old n in the park downstairs when he had free ti. Mrs. An found her group of friends for activities and occasionally joined so old ladies in participating in public service activities. Having things to keep them busy made the days less boring.
An Junxi bought many supplents for her parents and planned to bring them along.
Thinking about the gifts, she sneaked a peek into Gu Yikun’s gift cabinet. What she saw shocked her. Previously, there was only one cabinet full of gifts, but now there were two!
Why hadn’t he given any of these to her?
After a quick glance, she closed the cabinet door and stepped out of the office. Gu Yikun had returned, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window on a phone call.
She walked quietly towards him and heard Gu Yikun say, "Don’t hold back; leave no one behind."
"His wife, An Lingling, went abroad? When... Find her. Search the whole world if you have to!"
"Alright, I’ll give you a month."
Gu Yikun hung up the phone and turned to see An Junxi standing behind him. The cold look on his face changed to warmth as he walked over and took her hand, "Why did you co out? Feeling bored?"
An Junxi asked, "Why are you looking for An Lingling?"
Gu Yikun initially didn’t want to discuss it, but seeing her persistent questioning, he held her and sat her down on the sofa, "Lv Jing was instructing Li Chong’s people that day. He is An Lingling’s husband; you should have heard of him."
An Junxi had indeed heard her mother ntion him. She said Li Chong was a big boss in the clothing industry with a company in Yan City, "What does Li Chong have to do with Lv Jing?"
"Lv Jing is his mistress. An Lingling left the country two days before your accident. Before leaving, she transferred most of Li Chong’s assets. I suspect she knew sothing in advance and wanted to flee."
An Junxi continued to ask, "What are you planning to do with Lv Jing and Li Chong?"
Gu Yikun played with her long hair, kissed her forehead, and said, "Be obedient, don’t ask about these things."
Gu Yikun’s voice was gentle, but An Junxi felt cold.
He was forbidding her to ask, possibly to avoid scaring her, but his thods would surely not be rciful.
An Junxi hugged his arm, "Alright, I won’t ask, but can you stop looking for An Lingling? Isn’t that okay?" An Lingling had married the wrong person. Li Chong’s unfaithfulness had broken her heart, which was why she left the country.
Gu Yikun contemplated, not agreeing imdiately.
An Junxi said, "She’s quite pitiable. I grew up with her. Given her personality, she wouldn’t yield to soone like Lv Jing. She must have been unable to bear Li Chong’s violence. Let her live the rest of her life in peace."
Gu Yikun still didn’t agree. An Lingling was Li Chong’s wife and had repeatedly troubled her family in the past. How could he let her go so easily?
An Junxi hugged his neck, "My uncle is already in prison, my aunt is sick in the hospital, and my two cousins are in debt. If An Lingling also... That would be too tragic. Yikun, please agree to my request."
Gu Yikun reluctantly rubbed her hair, "Alright, I’ll listen to my wife."
An Junxi gratefully kissed him, "Then quickly call that person back." She wasn’t easily fooled; she needed to see him make the call to feel at ease.
Gu Yikun smiled wryly, pinching her nose, "You little rascal, don’t you trust your husband?"
Smiling, An Junxi nestled in his arms, listening as he redialed the number, instructing them not to look for An Lingling any longer. Only then did she feel reassured and said, "Let’s go have lunch at our parents’ place."
"Alright, just wait for ."
Gu Yikun walked into the lounge and ca out after a while with two small boxes. He handed them to her and said, "See if you like them."
Having peeked into the cabinet, she pretended to be surprised. When she opened them and saw the earrings and bracelet, she joyfully hugged him, "I love them! Thank you, hubby!"
Gu Yikun smiled, "I’m glad you like them. Let’s go, ti to eat at ho."
They drove back to Yuhua Mansion. It had been a long ti since An Junxi had co ho for a al. Upon entering, she slled the familiar aroma of the dishes and excitedly hugged her mother, "Mom, you’re the best!"
Seeing his young wife acting like a child in front of her mother, Gu Yikun’s face softened. Just days ago, he had feared losing her, and henceforth, he would spend the rest of his life protecting this woman.
