Wren Sutton’s heart hamred in her chest, and her breath caught in her throat.

This wasn’t the first ti Adrian Lancaster had made his stance clear.

The last ti they were at the family estate, she’d personally overheard him telling the matriarch at the turn of the stairs that he wouldn’t get a divorce.

Last week, Claire Sterling had pressured Adrian Lancaster to divorce her. Wren had waited at the marriage registration office all afternoon, but he never showed.

And just now, he had repeated the exact sa thing.

All in all, it seed Adrian Lancaster truly had no intention of getting a divorce.

Wren Sutton grew worried. She feared that finalizing the divorce at the marriage registration office wouldn’t go smoothly after the cooling-off period ended.

She was so lost in thought that she didn’t hear a word of what Adrian Lancaster said after that.

Adrian Lancaster noticed her mind had drifted. He lifted her chin, forcing her to et his eyes.

"What are you thinking about?"

Wren Sutton snapped back to reality, her tone cool. "Nothing."

Adrian Lancaster watched her for a mont, his expression dark and complex.

"Your parents aren’t angry anymore. It’s about ti you let it go, don’t you think?"

"My parents don’t speak for ."

"I’ve said everything I can say. You’re still being this stubborn."

Wren Sutton scoffed and pointed at herself.

", stubborn? Are you kidding ? The stubborn one here is Maya Marshall. She says and does whatever she wants because she knows you’re biased toward her."

Adrian Lancaster’s brow tightened, his gaze turning cold.

’He’d co to the Sutton ho today and given everyone more than enough respect. How could Wren Sutton still not be satisfied? What more could she possibly want!’

"No one is more stubborn than you."

Indifferent to Adrian Lancaster’s opinion of her, Wren Sutton pulled out of his embrace. She put so distance between them and silently turned her back to him.

"I’m asking you one last ti. Are you deleting the recording or not?"

Wren’s stance was firm. "Not until Maya Marshall cos to apologize."

"You just have to push things to the absolute limit."

Wren Sutton said nothing. Her silence was a clear answer: she was determined not to compromise or back down.

The hands at Adrian Lancaster’s sides clenched into fists, and the chill emanating from him grew more intense.

The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife.

After an indeterminable amount of ti, a ringing phone shattered the suffocating atmosphere.

Adrian Lancaster answered the phone. It was Jason.

"The contract is drafted. Take a look, and if there are no issues, I’ll co by your office tomorrow so we can sign it."

"Sounds good. I’ll have Kevin Dawson contact you to set up a specific ti."

"OK."

Adrian Lancaster hung up and straightened his tie. He gave Wren Sutton one last, deep look before he left.

"Call if you need anything."

Wren Sutton completely ignored him.

After Adrian Lancaster left the Sutton ho, Mrs. Sutton knocked and entered her daughter’s room.

"Nina, co talk to Mom. You didn’t say a single word in the living room just now."

The two of them sat on the sofa in the bedroom, and Wren Sutton rested her head on her mother’s shoulder.

"So, what are you thinking? Tell ."

"I want Maya Marshall to apologize in person."

Mrs. Sutton patted her daughter’s hand. "I understand how you feel, sweetie. You want to stand up for ."

"The things she said were just so vile. I get angry just thinking about it."

Mrs. Sutton comforted her. "Don’t pay any mind to what other people say. If you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear. There’s no need to stoop to the level of such a petty person."

It wasn’t that Wren Sutton didn’t understand the logic, but she just couldn’t swallow the insult. She couldn’t stand the sight of the Marshall won and their disgusting attitudes.

"Mom, actually..."

She had just opened her mouth to speak when her stomach suddenly churned violently. A wave of nausea surged up her throat.

Wren Sutton shot to her feet, clamping a hand over her mouth as she tried to hold it back. A panicked look on her face, she hurried toward the bathroom.

A mont later, the painful sounds of her vomiting echoed from within.

Mrs. Sutton’s expression changed as a thought struck her. Heart pounding with a mix of emotions, she quickly got up and rushed to the bathroom.

Wren’s face was pale from the force of her vomiting, and her legs were so weak she could barely stand.

Mrs. Sutton steadied her, her eyes filled with concern as she handed her a glass of water.

"Rinse your mouth."

After the ordeal, Wren Sutton felt miserable. She returned to the bedroom and sank onto the sofa, too exhausted to move.

Mrs. Sutton had been through this before. She leaned in close and asked quietly, "Nina, be honest with . Are you pregnant?"
