Wren Sutton thought about it again and again, but she still found it hard to believe.

"Nanny Lawson, you must be joking."

Nanny Lawson didn’t think much of it, assuming Wren was just being shy and embarrassed.

"Young Madam, I’m not joking. Last night, the Young Master carried you out of Assistant Dawson’s car. You were sleeping so soundly you didn’t know a thing."

Nanny Lawson’s tone was serious; she certainly didn’t seem to be lying.

Wren Sutton’s pupils quivered. She lowered her gaze, hiding her complex emotions.

’So it’s true.’

’But...’

She pursed her lips. After a mont of careful thought, realization dawned on her.

Adrian Lancaster was just putting on an act for Nanny Lawson’s benefit. Otherwise, if word got back to the old madam, he’d have to waste ti explaining. It was better to perform this little show of affection and deceive Nanny Lawson.

Having figured it out, Wren actually felt much more relaxed.

"And then he left again, right?"

"No. The Young Master held you and slept the entire night. This morning, he got up and said his arm was a little sore, but don’t listen to him complain. He was actually delighted on the inside. I could tell."

Nanny Lawson finished with a happy smile and turned to head into the kitchen.

"..." Wren Sutton froze. There was only shock, not joy.

’Last night, Adrian Lancaster held her while she slept...’

The thought of that scene made Wren feel completely uneasy.

The embrace she once craved most was now sothing she couldn’t get away from fast enough, sothing she vehently resisted.

She thought this was a good thing, feeling a sense of relief that she was no longer infatuated with Adrian Lancaster.

Falling in love with soone is easy, but forgetting them is hard.

Wren didn’t dare say she had completely eradicated Adrian Lancaster from her heart, but she was constantly trying.

Ti would be the ultimate test. She believed that one day, she would erase all mories of Adrian Lancaster and pretend she had never known him at all.

「After breakfast.」

There was another matter weighing on Wren Sutton’s mind.

Last night, Adrian Lancaster had forcibly taken her from The Silvercloud Hotel. With all the awful things that had happened afterward, she hadn’t had a chance to ask about her class president’s condition. She didn’t know how badly he was hurt and just hoped he was okay.

When Nanny Lawson went out to buy groceries, Wren took the opportunity to take out her phone and call her class president.

When she learned he was in the hospital, she was filled with guilt and self-bla. It left a bitter taste in her mouth.

This had all happened because of her; she couldn’t just ignore it.

"Class President, which hospital are you at?"

The class president understood what Wren intended and didn’t dare to trouble her.

"You don’t have to make a special trip to see . I’m fine. The doctor said I’ll be all better after a couple of days of rest."

"But..."

The class president cut her off. "I’m really fine. Please don’t bla yourself. To be honest, I was a bit reckless last night, too. I shouldn’t have been so impulsive and let things get to that point.

"In any case, Wren, I appreciate the kind thought. Thank you."

Since the class president had put it that way, Wren couldn’t press the issue any further.

She didn’t know if it was just her imagination, but she felt like her class president had suddenly beco a different person. His attitude hadn’t been like this last night. In short, it was a little strange.

"Fine, I won’t go to the hospital, but I insist on transferring you the money for your dical bills." Wren settled for the next best thing as a way to make ands. Otherwise, she’d feel too guilty.

Since it had co to this, the class president sighed in resignation. "Alright then."

Wren imdiately transferred him ten thousand yuan via WeChat.

Before hanging up, she said sincerely, "Class President, I’m so sorry for getting you involved in all that yesterday."

"..." The class president was filled with trepidation.

The image of that cold, sharp-faced man surfaced in his mind—grabbing him by the collar and warning in an icy voice.

"I’m Adrian Lancaster. Wren Sutton is my wife. If I ever see you with her again, you know what the consequences will be."

"Pres... President Lancaster... I’m sorry, I didn’t know about your relationship."

"Well, you know now. So watch your mouth. Also, my wife is a kind, soft-hearted person. She’ll probably contact you tomorrow."

"President Lancaster, please rest assured. I’ll know what to say when she does."

"Good that you know your place."

The class president snapped out of his thoughts and quickly hung up the phone.

Wren Sutton put down her phone, feeling less guilty. As far as she was concerned, the matter was closed.

She got up to stretch and started trimming the flowers in the vase.

In the process, she accidentally pricked her finger on a thorn.

"Hiss..."

Wren subconsciously brought the finger to her lips and sucked on it gently.

The pinprick-sized wound wasn’t serious. It would stop bleeding on its own if she pressed on it for a mont, not even needing a bandage.

Just then, Mrs. Sutton called.

Wren answered. "Mom."

"Nina, darling, I can’t go with you to the hospital for your follow-up appointnt tomorrow. It’s my school’s centennial celebration, and I’ve been invited to attend. There’s also an academic conference.

"How about this? Why don’t you call the doctor and postpone the appointnt for a day? I can go with you the day after tomorrow. What do you think?"

Mrs. Sutton proposed a solution that would work for everyone.

Wren lightly tapped her forehead. She’d almost forgotten.

She glanced at the reminder on her calendar. The follow-up was indeed tomorrow.

"Mom, you go ahead and take care of your business. Don’t worry about . I’ll just go to the hospital for the appointnt myself tomorrow."

Tomorrow’s follow-up would surely include an ultrasound. Wren was worried her pregnancy would be exposed if soone ca with her, so going alone was perfect.

Mrs. Sutton wasn’t reassured. "That won’t do. You should have soone with you when you go to the hospital."

"It’s fine, Mom, I can handle it on my own. If I try to reschedule the appointnt on my own, there’s no guarantee I can get in the day after tomorrow. It might get delayed for a long ti, which would just complicate things."

Her daughter had a point, so Mrs. Sutton didn’t argue, remaining silent for a few seconds.

"If I can’t go, then have Adrian go with you."

Wren: "..."

There was no way she was going to let Adrian Lancaster accompany her to the follow-up.

’Once he finds out I’m pregnant, the issue of child custody will co up, and getting a divorce will beco even more difficult.’

But Wren knew her mother’s personality. If she didn’t agree, her mother would most likely contact Adrian Lancaster herself and ask him to accompany her to the appointnt. That would put Wren in an even more passive position.

To ease her mother’s worries, Wren had no choice but to tell a white lie.

"Alright, I’ll have Adrian go with tomorrow. There, Mom, you can rest easy now, right?"

Mrs. Sutton smiled, relieved. "Good."

The mother and daughter chatted about other things for a bit before hanging up about ten minutes later.

A little while later, a ssage ca from the hospital, reminding Wren about her follow-up appointnt tomorrow.

Wren replied with a single word: ’Okay’.

...

「The Rhodes Group.」

Kevin Dawson pushed open the door to the president’s office, holding a shimring red invitation.

"President Lancaster, Arden University is holding its centennial celebration tomorrow. This invitation just arrived."

"I’m not going. Decline it," Adrian Lancaster refused coldly, showing no interest.

Just as he said it, he suddenly rembered that Mrs. Sutton was a retired professor from Arden University. She would have surely received an invitation to the centennial celebration as well.

"Wait."

Kevin Dawson set the invitation down again.

Out of respect for his mother-in-law, Adrian Lancaster decided to send Arden University a gift.

"Arden University is a prestigious school with a century-long, profound history. Do this: donate a library and an academic building in the group’s na. You handle it personally."

"Yes, sir."

After agreeing, Kevin Dawson didn’t leave the office right away.

Adrian Lancaster glanced up at him. "Is there sothing else?"

Kevin Dawson said, "The Chief Secretary position is still vacant. The next hiring season is approaching, and the HR departnt is unsure whether they should recruit for the role."

Adrian Lancaster replied without a mont’s hesitation, "No. Keep it for her."

He had promised Wren Sutton a three-month leave. After three months, he was confident she would return. The Chief Secretary position was hers and hers alone.

Kevin Dawson knew exactly who "her" was, so he said nothing more.

The ntion of the three-month leave naturally made Adrian think of Wren’s post-surgery follow-up.

He opened his phone and glanced at his reminders. The follow-up appointnt was, in fact, tomorrow.
