The word "pregnant" struck Wren Sutton like a bolt from the blue, leaving her stunned as her world went dark. Her heart seed to stop, and the breath caught in her throat.

’Impossible. How could I be pregnant?’

For one, the timing was all wrong. For another, she had just undergone gynecological surgery not long ago.

Wren Sutton found it impossible to believe, impossible to accept.

For the past few years, she had truly longed for a child. She had dread of becoming a mother.

But now, she didn’t want a child at all.

’The divorce papers are already signed. The divorce is just a matter of ti. What would I do with a child?’

’Adrian Lancaster has no shortage of won to bear his children. I refuse to go through that misery.’

"Doctor, are the test results reliable? Could it be a misdiagnosis?"

The doctor pushed up his glasses. "Miss Sutton, I can tell you with full confidence that they are reliable."

Her last shred of hope was shattered. Wren Sutton felt as if she’d been struck by lightning all over again, swaying on her feet and nearly fainting.

The doctor helped her into a chair and poured her a cup of hot water.

Wren Sutton ca to her senses and, without hesitation, made a swift decision.

’This child has co at the wrong ti. I absolutely will not have it.’

’Therefore, I absolutely cannot let Adrian Lancaster know I’m pregnant.’

’Otherwise, it’ll be that much harder to go through with the divorce.’

"Doctor, I need to ask you for a favor. Please, you have to help ."

The doctor couldn’t guess. "What is it?"

Wren Sutton spoke in a voice only the two of them could hear. "Don’t tell anyone that I’m pregnant. Especially not Adrian Lancaster."

After finishing his call with Maya Marshall, Adrian Lancaster returned to the hallway, but Wren Sutton was nowhere to be seen. He scanned the area, but there was still no sign of her.

Adrian Lancaster loosened his tie, feeling irritated.

’Where’d she run off to now? Neither of them ever gives a mont’s peace.’

Adrian Lancaster was about to call Wren Sutton, but before he could even dial the number, he saw her walking out of the doctor’s office, clutching a few papers.

He breathed a sigh of relief, put his phone away, and strode toward her.

"Did you get the test results?"

"Yeah." Wren Sutton nodded, her tone natural and betraying nothing. "I have a minor issue with my digestive system, so the doctor prescribed so dication."

Adrian Lancaster’s gaze darkened. He held out his hand. "Let see."

Wren Sutton handed him the papers.

Adrian Lancaster read through them, line by line. When he reached the end, he felt a pang of disappointnt deep inside.

’He’d thought Wren Sutton was pregnant, but it turned out she wasn’t.’

’But maybe this was for the best. She’d just had surgery and hadn’t even had her follow-up appointnt yet. This probably wasn’t the best ti for a pregnancy.’

’There’s still plenty of ti. No need to rush. They would have a child eventually.’

Adrian Lancaster silently pushed his thoughts aside and took Wren Sutton’s hand.

"Well, it’s a good thing it’s just a minor issue and nothing serious. Co on, let’s go get your dicine."

Wren Sutton didn’t resist, obediently following him. The knot of anxiety in her chest finally loosened.

’As long as I can keep this from Adrian Lancaster, everything else will be much easier to handle.’

...

On the way ho, Wren Sutton leaned back in her seat. A wave of drowsiness washed over her, and she drifted off to sleep.

Adrian Lancaster gently wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

In her sleep, Wren Sutton felt as if she had fallen into a warm embrace. A familiar scent, one she had once been infatuated with, filled her senses.

She instinctively snuggled closer, her brow smoothing as her breathing beca deep and even, like a kitten curled up in its owner’s arms.

Adrian Lancaster was pleased by the way Wren Sutton burrowed into his embrace, and the foul mood he’d been in all evening gradually lifted.

He gently stroked her hair.

Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of the villa.

Wren Sutton was sound asleep and didn’t wake up.

Adrian Lancaster had no intention of waking her. He draped his jacket over her and carried her out of the car.

Inside the villa, Adrian Lancaster carried Wren Sutton upstairs, laid her down on the large bed in the master bedroom, and tucked her in, trying his best not to wake her.

"Sleep," he murmured. "You can take your dicine when you wake up tomorrow."

After settling Wren Sutton in, Adrian Lancaster went to the bathroom for a shower.

Afterwards, he put on a bathrobe, lay down on his side next to Wren Sutton, and pulled her into his arms.

The faint, sweet scent emanating from her was the best sleeping aid.

...

「The next day.」

Wren Sutton slept until she woke up naturally. Before opening her eyes, she stretched lazily.

’Sothing’s not right.’

She seed to be touching sothing strange—it wasn’t exactly soft, but it wasn’t exactly hard, either.

...

She gave it a couple of curious squeezes.

’You know, it actually felt pretty good... a bit like...’

"You’re awake."

A deep, familiar voice suddenly sounded by her ear.

Wren Sutton’s mind went blank, and she snapped her eyes open.

She could clearly see Adrian Lancaster’s chiseled, handso face.

Having just woken up, his eyes didn’t look as cold and stern as usual. A gentle warmth blood in their long, dark depths.

He looked every bit the husband.

And there she was, lying in his arms, her hands shalessly exploring his abs, with one leg thrown over his waist in an incredibly intimate position.

"So, how’s the texture? Have you had your fill of touching?"

Hearing the teasing, flirtatious tone in Adrian Lancaster’s voice, Wren Sutton’s face instantly turned beet red. She was so ashad she wanted to find a hole to crawl into and die.

She quickly rolled over and sat up, putting distance between them.

"You... What are you doing in bed?"

Adrian Lancaster’s posture was one of lazy elegance, brazenly showing off his physique. His bathrobe was open in a deep V that reached his abs.

"If I’m not sleeping in a bed, where else would I be?" He raised an eyebrow, his eyes holding a roguish glint and a hint of a devil-may-care attitude.

Wren Sutton looked around and only then realized she wasn’t at the Sutton Family’s estate.

A flare of anger ignited within her.

When they left the hospital last night, she had clearly told Adrian Lancaster that she wanted to go back to the Sutton Family’s ho, and he had agreed at the ti.

’I can’t believe he went back on his word, changing his mind halfway here while I was asleep.’

’Damn him.’

"You went back on your word."

Adrian Lancaster didn’t bother to explain. He swung his legs out of bed, getting ready to wash up.

He wasn’t in the habit of sleeping in; today was an exception.

He had woken up earlier than Wren Sutton, but she had been nestled motionlessly in his arms. Seeing as she was sick, his heart had softened, so he hadn’t left, choosing to stay and sleep a while longer with her.

"This is your ho too. You haven’t been back in a long ti."

Wren Sutton was unconvinced, sitting cross-legged on the bed with her cheeks puffed out in anger.

’A place with love is what you call a ho. This is just the house we bought when we got married.’

"Since you’re awake, you should get up and take your dicine."

Adrian Lancaster brought over a glass of warm water.

He had specifically read the instructions for the dications prescribed yesterday; so were to be taken before als, and others after.

He was now handing Wren Sutton the pills that needed to be taken before eating.

Staring at the white pills in her palm, Wren Sutton’s heart suddenly clenched, as if squeezed tight by an invisible hand. At the sa ti, a sharp pain shot through her abdon.

In a daze, she thought she heard a faint, pitiful voice calling out to her.

"Mommy..."
