Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce Chapter 144: Wife, Let’s Have a Good Talk
Faced with Maya Marshall’s tearful defense, Adrian Lancaster felt conflicted and started to waver.
Maybe he really had misjudged Maya Marshall.
The fake mountain at the Quinn family’s estate was so high; she must have known the consequences of falling. A fall like that would an death or permanent injury. No one in their right mind would do sothing so foolish.
"Are you certain you didn’t falsely accuse Wren Sutton?"
Maya Marshall shook her head, tears streaming down her face.
"I didn’t. I really didn’t."
"You know I’ve had a fear of heights since I was a child. How could I possibly have the courage to jump from such a high fake mountain? Wren Sutton pushed . I already told you why—it has to do with that photo."
At the ntion of the photo, Adrian Lancaster’s gaze turned dark and frigid, filled with a murderous aura.
He had almost forgotten about the photo. His focus shifted in an instant.
"You’d better be telling the truth."
Maya Marshall continued to sob. "Wren Sutton betrayed you. Don’t believe anything she says. I, on the other hand, would never betray you."
Adrian Lancaster turned away, finding himself irritated by her crying. It was annoying to listen to, a feeling he’d never had before.
"The matter of the photo hasn’t been fully investigated. Don’t jump to conclusions."
Maya Marshall gritted her teeth and pressed her lips together, her heart filled with resentnt.
’Even now, with the photo right there, Adrian was still siding with Wren Sutton.’
’Hadn’t he gone to Room 5020? Hadn’t he seen Wren Sutton and that child? She had every reason to suspect that the child’s father was the man in the photo. Why wasn’t Adrian suspicious?’
’Where exactly did things go wrong?!’
"And another thing. Don’t let hear you say anything to drive a wedge between my wife and again. If you can’t manage that, don’t bla for turning my back on you."
Adrian Lancaster’s warning cut through Maya Marshall’s thoughts.
She lowered her head, her heart aching as tears splashed onto the back of her hand. Filled with a sense of grievance, she voiced her discontent.
"Adrian, how can you treat like this? You used to say you only loved , that your greatest wish was to make your wife and have two children together. But then you turned around and married soone else. I’m the one who should be Mrs. Lancaster."
Adrian Lancaster’s voice grew low. "Four years ago, I followed you to the airport, got down on one knee, and proposed. You refused."
Maya Marshall grew emotional, her thoughts a tangled ss. "I was just joking with you! If you had only taken one more step, I would have imdiately said yes."
Adrian Lancaster was unconcerned. "What you considered a joke, I took seriously."
Maya Marshall was overwheld with regret. Nothing she said could win Adrian Lancaster back. She nearly cried herself unconscious.
Before he left, he issued a few more warnings, each word a dagger to her heart.
Adrian Lancaster retraced his steps to the ergency departnt, only to find the door to the room locked from the inside.
He knocked and called her, but Wren Sutton didn’t respond.
[Wren, open the door. Let’s talk this through.]
His ssage went unanswered.
...
「The next day.」
Isla Griffith ca to the hospital to bring Wren Sutton and Zoey breakfast, only to find the room empty.
She was absolutely certain she hadn’t gone to the wrong room, so she hurried to the nurses’ station to ask what was going on.
After learning the two of them had moved to a VIP room on the top floor, Isla Griffith imdiately took the elevator up. She was surprised to find Adrian Lancaster at the door to the room, sitting on a bench with his head down, staring at his phone.
Hearing the approaching footsteps, Adrian Lancaster looked up and rose from the bench, his expression cold and silent.
Isla couldn’t be bothered with him. Without a second thought, she knocked on the door.
She had texted Wren before arriving, so Wren opened the door for her as soon as she knocked.
Before Wren Sutton could even get a clear look at Adrian Lancaster, he slipped in behind Isla, strode expressionlessly into the adjoining lounge, and shut the door with a SLAM.
Isla couldn’t hold back. She set down the things in her hands and started cursing, "What is wrong with him? Who’s he throwing a tantrum at this early in the morning? He has no class at all."
Wren’s expression wasn’t good either. "Where did you see him?"
Isla glanced back and pointed. "Right outside the door."
Wren fell into thought.
’Could Adrian have been outside the door all night?’
’Did he think that would make her forgive him?’
