The hospital ergency departnt.

When Wren Sutton arrived, Zoey was already awake but not doing well. She was lethargic and drowsy, her face was pale, and she had a slight fever.

The doctor recomnded she stay for observation and undergo a full check-up the next morning.

Isla Griffith went to handle the paperwork.

Wren Sutton sat by the hospital bed, her heart aching as she gently stroked Zoey’s head.

"Tell where it hurts."

"Mommy..." Zoey’s voice was weak and feeble as she struggled to open her eyes.

"I’ll be good. Please don’t leave . I’m so scared all by myself."

A pang of sadness shot through Wren Sutton’s heart. She soothed her gently, "Good girl, don’t be scared."

Zoey reached out a hand, calling for her mommy in a choked whisper, tears welling in her eyes.

Wren Sutton’s heart ached even more. She took the little girl’s hand, bent down to press a reassuring kiss on it.

"Mommy’s here. I won’t ever leave you."

Only then did Zoey relax, and gripping Wren Sutton’s hand tightly, she drifted off to sleep.

A few minutes later, Isla Griffith returned to the room with several lab forms in her hand.

"She has a fasting blood test tomorrow morning, plus so other exams. The doctor went ahead and wrote up the orders. I put them all in this drawer."

Wren Sutton nodded. "Honey, you must be exhausted. You should hurry ho and get so rest."

But Isla Griffith had no intention of leaving. She sat down by the bed, her heart also aching as she looked at Zoey.

Even though they hadn’t known each other long, she was genuinely fond of the little girl.

"I wouldn’t be able to rest easy if I went ho anyway. I’ll stay the night to look after Zoey. You go ho and get so sleep."

Wren Sutton firmly refused. "Absolutely not. You already looked after Zoey for all day. You’re exhausted. I can’t let you stay up all night, too."

"An expectant mother has even less reason to be pulling an all-nighter, unless you’ve decided you don’t want the baby," Isla Griffith said bluntly, looking out for her best friend.

"..." At the ntion of the baby, Wren Sutton was rendered speechless.

After a mont of silence, Isla Griffith spoke in a serious tone. "You keep putting off the decision, but in a way, that is a decision. You’re leaning toward keeping the baby, aren’t you?"

Wren Sutton neither confird nor denied it. Her heart was once again tangled in a painful dilemma, and she let out a silent sigh.

"Am I just pathetic? I can’t bring myself to be that ruthless."

Isla Griffith consoled her. "Don’t think that. That’s not what I ant. It’s your baby; you have every right to decide whether to keep it. And like I’ve always said, whatever you decide, I’ll support you."

Hearing this, Wren Sutton finally voiced her true feelings. "I want to have this baby. It has nothing to do with Adrian Lancaster. It’s sothing I want for myself, because I have no intention of remarrying after the divorce."

Isla Griffith nodded in understanding. "Which ans you can’t be staying up all night. I’ll take the shift tonight."

Wren Sutton still felt bad about it. "The bed is pretty big. I can just sleep next to Zoey. I’ll be fine for one night."

"That’s a huge problem! What if you roll over in your sleep and fall out of bed?"

"You’re exaggerating."

"Better safe than sorry. It’ll be too late for regrets if sothing happens."

Now that Isla Griffith had put it that way, Wren Sutton’s resolve wavered. ’I’m so lucky to have a friend like her.’

"I’ll book a room at the hotel across the street and co relieve you first thing in the morning."

"Deal."

At ten o’clock, at Isla Griffith’s insistence, Wren Sutton finally got up and left the hospital room.

...

「The next day.」

Wren Sutton ca to the hospital room to relieve Isla Griffith before dawn, bringing breakfast and a change of clothes with her.

Isla Griffith, exhausted and hungry after staying up all night, finished her breakfast, took the room key and clothes, and headed to the hotel to catch up on sleep.

Zoey woke up a little after seven.

Wren Sutton washed her face and hands and changed her into fresh clothes, getting her all cleaned up.

Then, she took the lab orders and brought Zoey to have her blood drawn and undergo the various tests. Zoey was very cooperative and didn’t cry or make a fuss.

"What a brave little girl," the doctor praised Zoey.

A little after ten, with all the tests completed, Wren Sutton took Zoey back to her room.

In the elevator, Zoey rested her head on Wren Sutton’s shoulder. "Mommy, I want to go ho."

Wren Sutton soothed her gently, "Okay, we’ll go ho in a little while."

Just then, soone else in the elevator snapped their head up, their attention fixed on the "mother and daughter."

She had heard Wren Sutton and Zoey’s conversation as clear as day and was shocked beyond belief.

’Wren Sutton has a child?!’
