Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce Chapter 107: Dangerous and Ambiguous
Wren Sutton thought going to the hospital was a complete overreaction.
She knew perfectly well that she hadn’t broken anything. It was just a minor sprain, and she’d be fine after a little rest.
But no matter what she said, Adrian Lancaster refused to listen, insisting on taking her to the hospital.
Wren Sutton was ntally exhausted. ’If I’d known I’d run into Adrian Lancaster, I would have just bought clothes for Zoey online and had them sent by sa-city delivery,’ she thought.
During the ride, the two of them barely spoke, each absorbed in their own tasks.
Adrian Lancaster continued working on his laptop, reviewing docunts.
Wren Sutton glanced over curiously. The word "bid" stood out, bold and prominent.
"Are you reviewing the bid proposal?"
"Mm-hm," Adrian Lancaster responded coolly, his sharp, intense gaze fixed on the screen, not missing a single detail.
Wren Sutton rembered a ssage from Spencer Sawyer. He was also busy with a bid recently.
’I wonder if they’re both part of the sa bidding process.’
’Probably not.’
’The world isn’t that full of coincidences.’
Losing interest, Wren Sutton retracted her gaze and turned to look out the window, her thoughts drifting to Zoey.
’I’ve been gone for so long. I wonder if the little one is scared all by herself at ho.’
"It’s a governnt-organized bid for the Dreamtide Bay Resort project," Adrian Lancaster suddenly said, breaking the silence and explaining it for her benefit.
Wren Sutton was distracted and didn’t quite catch it. "What bay project?"
"Dreamtide Bay Resort."
"Oh." Wren Sutton heard him clearly this ti.
’So it’s a resort,’ she thought. ’Since it’s a governnt bid, the scale must be massive. Whoever wins the project is guaranteed to make a fortune.’
"Is The Rhodes Group confident you’ll win the bid?" Wren Sutton asked casually.
Adrian was brimming with confidence, his eyes filled with the arrogant, oppressive aura of a man in power.
"No one can beat ."
Wren Sutton offered no opinion.
’Adrian Lancaster and The Rhodes Group certainly had the right to be that arrogant,’ she thought.
’Especially in Aston, no one could challenge his power.’
Just then, the driver pulled up in front of the hospital’s ergency building.
A sudden wind picked up, and dark clouds gathered, threatening rain.
Seeing that Wren Sutton was only wearing a dress, Adrian Lancaster took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, then carried her out of the car.
The jacket still held Adrian Lancaster’s body heat, and a complicated feeling welled up inside Wren.
’This warmth isn’t just for ,’ she thought. ’Other won have felt it too.’
The thought made her skin crawl. She took off the jacket and handed it back to Adrian Lancaster.
"I’m not cold."
Adrian Lancaster’s face tightened. "Wear it anyway. Your dress is so short. You want everyone walking by to get a look?"
Wren Sutton glanced down. "It goes past my knees. It’s not short at all."
"Your calves are showing. That’s not okay either."
"..."
Adrian Lancaster carried Wren Sutton into the doctor’s office.
After a thorough examination, the doctor confird that Wren Sutton had only sprained it and hadn’t broken any bones.
"Are you sure she didn’t injure the bone?" Adrian Lancaster asked, still worried, his expression serious.
The doctor put down the X-rays and assured him, "I’m sure."
Only then was Adrian Lancaster relieved enough to leave with Wren Sutton.
Once they were back in the car, the privacy partition automatically slid down.
Adrian Lancaster took out the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving ointnt the doctor had prescribed and gave Wren Sutton a pointed look.
"Give your leg. I’ll apply the ointnt."
Wren Sutton declined. "You don’t have to do that. I can do it myself when I get ho."
Adrian Lancaster reined in his temper, his gaze fixed intently on her.
"I wasn’t asking."
Without another word, he pulled Wren Sutton onto his lap, took hold of her ankle, squeezed out so ointnt, and began to slowly rub it in with the pads of his fingers.
After the ointnt was fully absorbed, he gently massaged the area for a few monts.
"Wren Sutton, I’ve never taken care of anyone like this before."
’I don’t believe you,’ Wren Sutton thought.
’I’d sooner believe in ghosts than trust a single word out of a man’s mouth.’
’As if he’s never given Maya Marshall a massage!’
Once the ointnt was applied, Adrian Lancaster decided it was ti to settle the score. He leaned close to Wren Sutton’s ear and demanded, his voice practically a growl, "Why did you stand up for lunch?"
Wren Sutton remained calm. "I already explained on the phone. Did you forget?"
"An explanation like that is as good as no explanation at all."
"..."
"I’ll give you one more chance. Explain yourself again, right now, to my face."
Wren Sutton was at a loss for words. "Is this really necessary? That was hours ago."
His expression turned dangerously intimate as he leaned toward her lips. "If you don’t give a clear explanation today, don’t even think about getting out of this car."
