Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Thank you for your hard work

Carolline wasn’t on the night shift that night. After dinner and a stroll, she went to the Inpatient Departnt to spend so ti with Bryan’s grandparents. When Hawkins Family’s servant ca to take over, Carolline left with them.

“Carolline, do you have any plans for the Mid-Autumn Festival?” Grandma Hawkins held Carolline’s hand, reluctant to let go.

“I’m not sure yet, Grandma Hawkins.” At the ntion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Carolline’s heart couldn’t help but tremble. Bryan should be back by then, right?

“No worries. I’ve already asked around. Your father will be on the night shift that day, and your mother seems to have sothing going on at school. You’ll be off work, so co spend the Mid-Autumn Festival at our place, okay?” Grandma Hawkins looked at her with eager anticipation.

“…” It didn’t occur to Carolline that Grandma Hawkins had investigated all of this. She couldn’t help but admire her, but she also knew there was no reason to refuse. If her parents were busy, even if she was supposed to go to the old mansion for dinner on Mid-Autumn Festival, it would be impossible to go back alone. “Alright, if that’s the case, I’ll co to disturb you, Grandma Hawkins.”

That’s only if there are no unexpected situations. After all, there’s still so ti before the Mid-Autumn Festival, and no one can guarantee that everything will go smoothly.

“Good.” Although she knew Carolline was leaving herself an out, Grandma Hawkins agreed in the end.

After seeing off Grandma Hawkins and Sophia, Carolline turned back and walked ho. When she arrived at the foot of her building, she received a call from Bryan.

“You’ve worked hard.” Bryan’s opening remark baffled Carolline for a mont, but then she understood what he ant. “Not at all, we’re supposed to take care of patients anyway.”

“I heard from my grandma that you’ve been keeping her company not only during your working hours but also after work. Thank you.” Bryan sincerely expressed his gratitude, aware that since his grandfather’s fall, he has been even more concerned about his family. Yet, he couldn’t complete tasks in just a few days. Having Carolline was a great relief to him.

“Well, you’re welco.” Carolline accepted his thanks, even though she thought it was absolutely unnecessary.

She felt a slight sense of loss. He’d said before that they were in a concealed marriage, not a fake one. So, she thought she should undertake the responsibilities and obligations of other married couples.

Since she and Bryan were already husband and wife, Carolline believed it was only natural for her to help him look after his elders when he’s not around. However, his gratitude made her feel estranged from him.

Considering their current relationship, it’s evident that even now, he hasn’t completely accepted her. So, did he impulsively decide to marry her?

Bryan didn’t know what was going on in Carolline’s mind, and he continued to ask, “Is there anything you particularly like that I can bring back for you from here?”

“Don’t bother. You’re so busy with your own things. No need to go out of your way.” Carolline declined without a second thought.

“…Alright then.” Bryan didn’t insist and simply hung up.

Carolline spent so more ti in the small flower garden downstairs, her mind blank, not knowing what she had been thinking about. It wasn’t until she received a call from ho urging her to return that she went upstairs.

She chatted with her parents for a while, but because she had to work the day shift the next day, Carolline went back to her room to wash up early.

At 9:30 pm, Carolline lay in bed, took her phone, and checked the news.

Just as she saw a familiar na, Mia Parker called her.

“Hello, Mia, what made you think of ?” Mia was about her age, and now was a junior at G University’s School of Journalism and Communication. Her future goal was clear: beco a reporter for the Health Channel and cover social news.

“Listen to that sarcasm. This year, the Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays are connected, and we get eight days off. Carolline, how many days have you arranged for ?” Carolline didn’t expect that Mia had called to make plans for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

During school, they used to spend every long break together, having a great ti.

Now that she’s working and Mia is about to start an internship, their jobs don’t allow for fixed holidays. The chances of eting up in the future will depend on their luck.

The Mid-Autumn Festival this year was probably the last holiday when Mia could really enjoy herself.

“We’ll see when the ti cos. There’s still more than half a month left.” Carolline was uncertain but should at least have two or three days off. Of course, it was also possible she wouldn’t have any.

“Oh, you’re such a busy person, not even a single day to spare.” Mia wasn’t really angry; as a friend, she understood Carolline’s work. “The main purpose of today’s call is to tell you so gossip.”

“…” Carolline kept quiet. She knew Mia always saved the main point until the end and would talk about trivial matters before revealing it.

“Your patience has improved significantly. This is related to your male god, albeit indirectly. It’s about Matilda Ferguson. She seems to have been dostically abused, and not just once, apparently.” Mia paused, seeing Carolline remaining silent and feeling helpless.

Carolline didn’t know what to say. Matilda Ferguson had been abused at ho?

Just over a year ago, Matilda and a man nad George Morris were a glamorous and loving couple. In just a little over a year, news of dostic violence erged. Was this really the case?
