Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Leaving Without Saying Goodbye
Soon, nearly half a year had passed, and Carolline Ruiz’s nursing internship lasted for a year. She couldn’t always be by Bryan Hawkins’s side for her internship, as she also needed to rotate through other departnts.
But during this half a year, Carolline saw Bryan’s coldness and busyness, yet there was no progress in persuading him to undergo restorative treatnt. For the first ti, Carolline felt deeply frustrated.
When she had to leave, she handed over her work to another caretaker. The night before she left, there was a sudden heavy rain, and Bryan’s grandmother insisted that she stay the night. After so hesitation, she agreed.
The Hawkins family was delighted, but nothing could be seen on Bryan’s face.
After dinner, Carolline thought about it and decided to persuade Bryan one last ti. Even if she wouldn’t be coming back tomorrow, she wanted to try her best on the last day.
As for the results, she didn’t care; what mattered to her was that she had tried her best until the last mont.
Bryan was quite busy after dinner. He went to the study room with Austin Hawkins, t with Xavier Estrada, and then worked on his computer. When Carolline saw him turning off the light to sleep, it was already half-past ten.
She thought about it and went over, knocking on Bryan’s door.
“It’s so late, haven’t you slept yet? What’s the matter?” Bryan was quite surprised, as he thought Carolline had already gone to bed.
“Young Master, I still hope you could undergo restorative treatnt as soon as possible. Is that okay?” Carolline looked at him, earnestly requesting.
“…” Bryan sighed softly, thinking she was really a silly girl. He relented, “I promise you, I will stand up again, okay?”
“…” There was a long silence, and Carolline couldn’t quite believe what she was hearing.
“Alright, it’s late. Go to sleep.” Bryan smiled faintly. This silly girl was truly silly. At that mont, he felt sothing deep in his heart beco very soft.
“Okay, good night.” Carolline was sowhat dazed.
The next day, she t the new caretaker at the door. It was then that the Hawkins family learned that Carolline was leaving. They knew Carolline had to change her position, but they couldn’t accept her leaving so soon.
But they also knew that Carolline couldn’t serve Bryan forever, considering her internship and Carolline’s future. Even though they were reluctant inside, they didn’t try to keep her.
Carolline handed over her work, and the Hawkins family accepted the new caretaker.
However, their attitude towards the new caretaker was quite different from how they treated Carolline. After handing over her work to the new caretaker, Carolline received a call from her father, telling her to report to the hospital.
The new caretaker was the best specialist student graduating from the Nursing College, the only student from their college going to the People Hospital for an internship. Her na was Avery Graham.
As soon as Carolline left, Avery went back to her room to pack up her things. But her room wasn’t the one where Carolline had stayed before. Neither Avery nor Carolline knew this.
Bryan got up unusually early that day. He finished his morning routine in the backyard and then returned to his room. Watching Bryan’s changes over the past few days, Uncle Lei deliberately asked while preparing breakfast, “Would you like so coffee?”
“No, just a glass of milk.” Bryan requested proactively, only realizing he had fallen for Uncle Lei’s trap when he saw the smile on his face.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Uncle Lei said cheerfully, “Nurse Carolline is here. I’ll go prepare your breakfast.”
Bryan didn’t speak, but the smile at the corners of his mouth and the laughter in his eyes couldn’t be hidden.
“Who are you?” Uncle Lei saw Avery standing at the door and was a bit confused. He thought it should be Carolline at this ti.
“Hello, I’m Avery Graham, who’s taking over Carolline’s shift. I’ll be working for Mr. Hawkins for the next month. Can I start now?” Avery introduced herself proactively.
“Sorry, Nurse Avery, please co back later. Our Young Master needs to take a bath.” Without Bryan saying anything, Uncle Lei tactfully declined Avery’s offer.
This was why Bryan always let Uncle Lei attend to him because Uncle Lei understood him best.
“…Alright, I’ll co back in an hour.” Though Avery was unhappy, there was nothing she could do.
“Uncle Lei, tell Grandpa and Grandma that I don’t need a caretaker anymore.” Since he was starting his restorative treatnt, he no longer needed a caretaker by his side.
“Alright, I’ll go tell the old master.” Uncle Lei nodded.
“Also, prepare
a cup of coffee.” Bryan’s tone was sowhat defiant. He thought it was outrageous that Carolline had left without telling him. She had co to see him last night, but she hadn’t ntioned anything about leaving.
Bryan didn’t know why he was angry; he just felt that Carolline shouldn’t have kept it from him. Besides, he wouldn’t force her to stay if she wanted to leave.
“I’ll go now.” Uncle Lei didn’t respond but prepared a glass of milk for Bryan after telling the old master about it, not fulfilling Bryan’s wish.
After taking a bath, Bryan saw the milk and felt depressed. However, he still drank it.
Later, he personally called Henry Ruiz to talk about this matter. Within an hour, Avery received a notice from the hospital to go to the Pediatrics departnt for her internship.
Throughout this, Carolline remained unaware, at Bryan’s request, that Henry Ruiz didn’t tell her about it.
In the days that followed, Carolline began her own work, and the damaged nerves in Bryan’s legs finally recovered after a period of treatnt.
