Chapter 36: Chapter 36 I Do Not Object
After lunch, Carolline returned to her room for a nap, got up at two o’clock to read so books.
An hour later, she went to Bryan Hawkins’s room, but only Uncle Lei was helping him make his bed. As soon as Uncle Lei saw Carolline, he directly told her Bryan’s whereabouts without waiting for her to ask.
Carolline ran to the backyard, and indeed, Bryan was sitting in his wheelchair, weeding the ground. Was this how he spent his days?
She walked over and said formally, “Given your condition, moderate labor is advised.”
“I know my limits.” Bryan sat up straight and wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. Knowing why she had co, he said directly, “Wait for
for ten more minutes.”
After saying that, he stepped on the hose lying on the ground, and water sprayed out. Carolline wasn’t paying attention, and so droplets splashed onto her, chilling and startling her enough to dodge to the side.
Bryan bit his lip and said nothing, while Carolline ran to the side, cursing him ntally several tis.
When Bryan finally finished, they went back to his room. He didn’t take a shower, just a simple wipe down, and then let Carolline start massaging him.
The five-minute massage went by quickly. Throughout, Carolline didn’t say a word because she was angry. After the massage, she quickly packed up, didn’t say goodbye to Bryan and just left.
Carolline went to the front hall to say goodbye to Bryan’s grandparents, and they even arranged a driver to take her. Carolline couldn’t refuse their kindness and accepted it reluctantly.
As for Bryan’s side, he didn’t show much reaction. At this mont, he was calmly thinking through so issues.
He finally understood that the reason Carolline reminded him to “keep his eyes open” last ti was not because she had feelings for him, but probably because she had seen Matilda Ferguson and George Morris together and wanted to warn him.
But at that ti, he didn’t accept her kindness.
As for his legs, he chose to give up treatnt, and even Henry Ruiz didn’t say much about it. But Carolline was so warm-hearted, not wanting him to beco disabled.
Was it just because he had saved her once, so she was returning the favor?
Matilda Ferguson once told him that Carolline liked him, but he didn’t think it was that serious. Besides, he had seen Carolline and Andy Aguirre together more than once, and they looked perfect together with Carolline’s beaming smile, full of sweetness.
Moreover, their families were old friends, and with their parents as friends, such a union should be the perfect match.
Most importantly, in his eyes, Carolline was just like gan Clifton. Since he knew she was gan Clifton’s roommate, he had treated Carolline like a little sister.
When it ca to Matilda Ferguson, he didn’t love her deeply. His reaction to seeing photos of her with another man this ti is proof. But before that, he indeed thought about marrying her.
His life goal was to carry forward the Hawkins Family and expand his business blueprint, not to indulge in romantic affairs. So when Matilda Ferguson ca in and agreed to be together, he accepted it as a matter of course.
Getting married and having children was a way of fulfilling their responsibilities to their family, so it didn’t really matter who he married, as long as she was a good woman.
So, Carolline’s thoughts about his relationship with Matilda Ferguson were indeed a misunderstanding.
He was inherently an indifferent person, especially when it ca to emotions.
Before he t Matilda Ferguson, he had genuinely loved a woman. But that woman had made it clear from the beginning that she didn’t want to get married. In the end, they separated completely without officially starting due to differences in values.
Being the eldest son of the Hawkins Family, he must get married and have children, no matter what.
At dinner ti, Bryan reappeared in the Hawkins Family’s dining room, and everyone was surprised.
“It’s nothing. I’ll eat with you all from now on,” Bryan said calmly.
“Did sothing happen today?” Calia raised an eyebrow. She was worried about her big brother locking himself up after being discharged from the hospital, especially since Matilda Ferguson had run off with soone else.
But today, as soon as she ca back, things seed different with her big brother. As a young girl, Calia naturally wanted to know about the gossip.
William Hawkins was able to keep calm, listening quietly and not saying anything.
“Nothing happened, it’s just that your big brother’s caretaker arrived,” said Sophia Lawson, picking up a chopstick of vegetables for Calia and glancing at Bryan’s face, then leaving it at that.
“So this caregiver is amazing, she actually made big brother…”
“Enough, eat your food.” Calia was cut off by her grandfather.
“Oh.” Calia was most afraid of her grandfather. When he spoke, she naturally obeyed and went quiet.
“Dad, let’s have a chat after dinner?” Bryan suddenly spoke to Austin Hawkins.
“…Alright.” Austin Hawkins hesitated for a mont before happily agreeing.
After dinner, Bryan went upstairs with Austin Hawkins to the study room, while the others sat in the living room, talking in disbelief.
“Did you see that, Sophia? Carolline has only been here for a day, and Bryan is already different. What did I say back then, and you didn’t believe ?” Bryan’s grandmother said directly to Sophia Lawson.
“Well, if that’s true, I don’t object, Mom.” Sophia also smiled. When Bryan’s grandmother first saw Carolline, she wanted Carolline to be her granddaughter-in-law.
Sophia didn’t oppose it back then, but at that ti, Bryan was focused on Matilda Ferguson, and she thought he was serious about marrying her.
“So it’s Nurse Carolline who ca?” Calia finally understood the reason for her big brother’s change.
Calia didn’t usually like to watch TV with her family; every ti they finished dinner, she was the first to go upstairs. Today, she lingered in the living room just to probe into Bryan’s gossip.
“Go upstairs and study, you’ll be taking the college entrance exam next year, and you’re not even conscious of it.” Sophia glared at Calia, who pouted and went upstairs sulkily.
The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law duo laughed and discussed the matter between Carolline and Bryan again.
