Chapter 51: I’ve Got Your Back! (1)

“Getting them a much better room might put undue pressure on that young girl,” Li Xingchen advised him in a whisper. “Judging by how this young lady has voluntarily written you an IOU, it’s clear that she doesn’t want to owe you any favors. If you get them a VIP room, how do you expect the young lady to repay the favor?”

“I don’t need her to repay . Speaking of which, she gave her blood! How could I possibly repay her for that?” Li Qingcang doggedly rejoined.

Since Ye Tianxin had saved his life, nothing he could do to try and repay her could be considered excessive!

“There’s no point in you telling all this. You need to consider that young lady’s state of mind and her feelings.”

Full of concern, Li Qingcang looked into the ward. That old lady was critically ill. Why wasn’t there a grown-up from her family present?

Li Qingcang stood at the entrance to the ward, debating whether or not he should go in. He feared that, instead of helping them like he intended, he might not be of help at all and put undue pressure on the young lady instead.

Standing to the side, Li Xingchen patted Li Qingcang on the shoulder.

“I’ll be off now. Call if sothing cos up, and I’ll have a word with the doctor!”

“Okay, Sis. You should get going, then!”

Li Xingchen laughed indulgently. Why did she have the feeling that her little brother was getting romantically entangled with this girl?

Nah. She must’ve gotten the wrong vibe.

Surely that young lady couldn’t be more than eighteen years old?

Her brother was already twenty-six, and in his current condition, how could he possibly have any romantic feelings toward that eighteen-year-old little girl?

Li Qingcang was in a dilemma. He really wanted to go into the ward.

He felt an impulse to go in there and tell the young lady not to be afraid, that he was here and that everything would be all right!

That he would protect her.

Suddenly, as if she had a telepathic connection with him, Ye Tianxin turned around and t Li Qingcang’s worried eyes dead-on.

Busted!!

Li Qingcang rubbed his cheeks. Had he been in the hospital for too long?

Had his hospital stay dulled his sense of awareness?

This was so embarrassing!

His face turned a crimson red!

Ye Tianxin walked toward the door. Her eyes were red and still a little swollen from all the crying, and there was a healthy blush on her porcelain-like cheeks.

“Thank you so much. You’ve been a great help. If it hadn’t been for you, I wouldn’t have known what to do!”

Faced with a pretty young girl thanking him so profusely and sincerely in such a gentle, sweet voice, even the usually arrogant little overlord Li Qingcang felt self-conscious. His earlobes turned slightly red, and his heart pounded so rapidly that he felt like it was going to jump out of his throat.

“You... you’re very welco.”

When Li Qingcang heard himself blurt out those words, he badly wanted to slap himself. Had he lost the ability to speak properly too?

“You saved my life once. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be alive right now!”

Li Qingcang assessed Ye Tianxin from head to toe. She was tall and thin. One look and he could tell that she was under-nourished. He resolved to himself find a way to build up her health.

After all, he had used up a lot of her blood....

“We’re both Rh-negative, so we should help each other out. If you hadn’t agreed to help , I would’ve been at a complete loss for what to do.”

Ye Tianxin was sincerely grateful to Li Qingcang. She knew that he was a good person.

“Aren’t you a student? Why are you in Capital City? Have you stopped school? Or has your grandmother’s illness beco too serious?”

Li Qingcang asked an endless string of questions, not realizing that, in his heart, he’d already accepted Ye Tianxin as one of his own.

He was showing concern for one of his own. What was wrong with that?
