One day ago, at the guard's house.
When Mr.L went to the guard's house with a police team, they found the guard's ssed up body that was beyond recognition.
"No sign of his wife or son?" Mr.L asked the officer standing next to him.
"We have checked every corner of the house, but they are nowhere to be found," the officer replied.
"Did you ask the neighbors if they saw anything?"
Another officer approached Mr.L and said, "The old man living at last house said he saw the wife and the son leaving the house late at night. He also ntioned they looked in a hurry."
"Put a BOLO on them. I will confirm my doubts." Mr.L took out his phone and walked away. He sat in his car and called soone. After a few seconds, they picked up the call.
"Hello. Please tell you got so good news for ," Mr.L uttered on the phone.
"I checked the handprints and so clues you sent ." A female voice said on the phone, "They match with the prints on the murder weapon."
"Alright. Is the chief back yet?"
"Yeah. I saw him a while ago."
Mr.L hung up the phone and turned on the car. He went straight to the police departnt and later into the chief's office.
"Chief, did you check my report on the recent case?" Mr.L asked in a calm manner.
"Yeah. Everything is clear, right?"
"About that…" Mr.L sat on the chair and said, "Don't you think sothing is strange?"
The chief nodded and uttered with a serious look on his face: "I think so too. It is strange how my wife's clothes change when she cos back ho after her job."
"That's not what I am talking about!" Mr.L shouted. "And we talked about this before; no matter how you look at it, she is cheating on you."
"You weren't talking about that?" the chief wondered with a confused look on his face. "Then what is it?"
"The case. Don't you find it strange that everything is solved perfectly?"
"What's strange about it? The guard killed the student, and then he deleted all the footage from the computer. Then he went to the laboratory to erase physical evidence but tripped and died." Chief summarized the case. "And as for the other guard. A video of him beating his wife and son was uploaded anonymously on the internet, and later, he was found dead in his house. His face was beyond recognition as it was smashed with the hamr, and all his internal organs were mashed. The report says that the wife was behind this. They are on the run for now, but our force is looking for them."
That was Leon's plan. He didn't let go of the guard's family like that. If he had killed them, then it would have beco obvious, and all the hard work he went through to delete the footage and make the murders look like an accident, would have been in vain.
He asked the guard's family to run away because he wanted them to suffer. He was sadistic, and he never forgave anyone. Even if the guard's family got caught and they spilled the beans, it would just make Leon more famous as a secret killer. He was in a win-win situation.
"I don't know…" Mr.L rubbed his hand on his face and muttered, "Sothing doesn't feel right. I have solved 199 cases, but this one is different. I don't feel a sense of accomplishnt after solving this case."
"Maybe you should take a break," the chief suggested. "You are still very young, and you have been working nonstop for the last three years. Give yourself so ti."
"I don't need a break!" Mr.L shouted and gritted his teeth. "How can I take a rest when there are millions out there suffering? I need to bring justice to them. I can't… I already lost my family in front of once; I don't want others to lose theirs."
The chief stared at Mr.L and said in a calm voice: "It's been ten years, but you are still not over it, huh?"
"I don't want to talk about . Let's talk about the case." Mr.L pondered for a while and said, "What about the after murder footage then?"
"The data was corrupted, so how would there be after murder footage?" the chief snorted.
"That's what I find strange. Everything is perfect, as though it was planned. It's like the evidence was planted even before the cri happened."
The chief sighed and said, "Listen, this is your 200th case, and if you pry deeper into this, it might get more complicated. Do you want to break your 199 case streak?"
Mr.L thought about it for a while and nodded. "You are right. But give one month to dig deeper into this case. If I don't find any clue, I will set it as solved."
Mr.L stood up and left the chief's office. Then, he walked to his desk and sat on the chair.
He once again looked through the report to check if he missed anything. Then, he sighed and leaned back on his chair. He closed his eyes and muttered, "Mother, father, I will bring justice to you."
He opened his eyes and looked at the family photo on his phone screen. It was a photo of 5; one was his father, one was his mother, one was his older brother, one was his older sister, and the last one was him.
"You too." He smiled after looking at the photo and asserted, "Leon, Layla. I will bring you justice."
Mr.L was none other than Liam, Leon's little brother.
