It was head.
Feng Jietang howled in his head, cursing his misfortune. Or better said, Shen Jingwei’s misfortune.
Yan Renzhong gave his rival a sneer brimming with schadenfreude.
"Great," he said to Shen Jingwei. "We will go fishing tomorrow then."
Early the next morning, before anyone awoke, Yan Renzhong and Shen Jingwei dug the backyard for so fresh earthworms.
Once they were set, they left for the nearest river with two fishing kits hauled over their shoulders.
"Weird," Shen Jingwei remarked, turning his head around again and again on their way to the river.
"What is?"
"Why is no one filming us? I thought they would want to take a peek at our fishing activity."
"They will show up later, probably ten minutes before we leave the river. No one wants to drag the pesky equipnt all the way there in the darkness."
"Oh."
Yeah, that made more sense.
But it also implied sothing else.
For the first ti during their stay in the farm, he and Yan Renzhong were truly alone.
Oh, if Lang Yuxuan only knew...
Shen Jingwei chuckled to himself.
After traversing a narrow, grassy path for almost an hour, they reached the river.
It took them only a while to find a fishing spot, but a long, long ti to catch a fish.
"Should we try another spot?" Shen Jingwei suggested after a while.
Yan Renzhong shook his head.
"No. This is Uncle Wang’s usual spot."
"Mmm. Okay."
"..."
"..."
Again with the suffocating silence.
Ahhhhhhhh...!
But this ti around, Shen Jingwei did not have to torture himself for long.
A sudden, forceful pull on his line, accompanied by a rhythmic throb, revealed a hooked fish.
"A fish!" Shen Jingwei exclaid, his eyes wide with excitent. "Hurry!"
Yan Renzhong dropped his own line and snatched up a fishing net. Carefully, he tugged on Shen Jingwei’s line to locate the struggling fish. With a swift, practiced motion, he scooped it up and tossed it into a nearby pail.
"Yeah!!!"
By reflex, Shen Jingwei held a hand up, intending to high-five Yan Renzhong. His smile froze in his face when he realized that it was Yan Renzhong, not Feng Jietang or Lin Ruoye.
He awkwardly lowered his hand, only to have it grasped by the other man.
"Good job," Yan Renzhong praised. "Nine more, and we can get out of here."
....
Emperor Yan did not like lazy subordinates, did he?
Thankfully, the earthworms and Uncle Wang’s fishing spot did the magic.
It did not take long before they caught the next four fishes.
Afterward, the atmosphere between them relaxed sowhat.
The sun started to peek over the mountain, casting long, golden rays through the fluffy, white clouds.
It was very beautiful.
Shen Jingwei took a deep breath, letting the morning fresh air fill his lungs.
They still had another week to spend in the farmhouse.
He would like to return to this spot again, at least one more ti.
Maybe with Feng Jietang or Lin Ruoye, or even Ye Lingxia.
Or...
His eyes flickered toward Yan Renzhong.
Maybe even Yan Renzhong. He proved to be an adequate fishing company, despite his silent character.
Unexpectedly, just as that last thought crossed Shen Jingwei’s mind, Yan Renzhong whipped his head toward him.
"I heard that both CNC Studio and Yunhuan Entertainnt are trying to recruit you," he said. "Have you made your decision yet?"
Shen Jingwei arched a brow at Yan Renzhong, who drilled holes into him with his intensive stares.
"In normal circumstances, I might be interested in joining Yunhuan instead of CNC," he slowly said. "But Shang Ruohai made a very interesting offer. He might be persuaded to share the unknown details of the past if I agree to join CNC."
Yan Renzhong narrowed his eyes at him, his expression unreadable.
After so ti, he said, "If you need to know that badly, I will tell you the details myself."
Shen Jingwei blinked at him in astonishnt.
"You will?"
Yan Renzhong nodded.
"I don’t want you to sign with CNC for such an unimportant reason."
Shen Jingwei chuckled.
"Is there ever an important reason to sign with a certain entertainnt company? Whether it’s CNC or Yunhuan, both should operate in similar way."
"You can sign with any company you want," Yan Renzhong stated.
"And yet you offer to disclose the details of the past to yourself just so I do not join CNC."
"That was not what I said."
Shen Jingwei shook his head several tis.
"I will make my decision after I learn about the full picture of what happened back then."
Yan Renzhong clenched his jaw. His grip tightened around the fishing rod until his knuckles turned white, but otherwise, he did not look aggrieved in any way.
"Suit yourself," he muttered.
"Well?" Shen Jingwei prodded.
"What?"
"The details? I thought you wanted to tell ."
A slight furrow ford between Yan Renzhong’s brows.
"Not now. I will tell you once the fifth shooting period is over."
Aha.
Must be so great secret if he needed ti to prepare himself.
Or maybe because he simply did not want Shen Jingwei to go rampant and ruin the entire production?
"Fine," Shen Jingwei agreed. "Contact whenever you are ready."
They already caught their eighth fish when the cara crew finally showed up.
After putting up so dramatic display of fishing prowess well done, they wrapped the shoot and carried the pail of fish back to the house.
Three big, fat carps were put aside for their own consumption. The rest were hauled off to the market to sell.
Small-scale fishern like them, who did not fish regularly, did not have their own stalls. Instead, they had the option to sell to market vendors of their choice.
After a round of haggling, they successfully sold off the remaining seven carps.
Before going back, Shen Jingwei bought so sweets to reward everyone for their hard work in the field.
When they arrived, the four other people, including Lang Yuxuan, were sitting on the porch waiting for their return.
"Oiiii, co here quickly, another letter has arrived!" Ye Lingxia announced excitedly.
