Technically, Shang Ruohai wasn’t wrong.

He was being selfish.

But so what?

All he wanted was to accompany Yan Renzhong as he fought against the brain tumor.

Was that too much to ask?

Shen Jingwei landed a powerful punch on the sandbag, sending it reeling.

The coach, who was holding the sandbag for Shen Jingwei, had to absorb the majority of the impact. His hands were sore, but he was happy to see Shen Jingwei’s progress.

Unlike most gym mbers, let alone athletes, Shen Jingwei’s build was rather lean, his fra slender. Instead of relying on raw and brutal strength, he had to work on his speed and agility to deliver a powerful impact on his opponent. This was a unique edge he needed to hone if he ever wanted to excel as a fighter.

Thankfully, he was not.

"That was very good," the coach praised. "You have shown amazing progress in the past week. While progress is generally good, we should not overdo it. Otherwise, you might sprain a muscle."

The coach took Shen Jingwei’s right arm and felt the muscles along the man’s lower and upper arm.

"You have been coming to the gym every day for the past three days. Is sothing bothering you?"

"No."

Shen Jingwei cursed himself inwardly. On top of not being able to help Yan Renzhong at all, he was also sworn to secrecy. Not that he needed Shang Ruohai to remind him. He was not about to blab and cost Yan Renzhong his career.

He wasn’t even able to confide in Mother Shen and Shen Dou Dou, not that they would say anything to the neighbors.

How infuriating.

The Kunlun Snow Lotus Award ceremony was due to take place in three days.

In these last three days, Yan Renzhong kept coming back late. On top of finishing so urgent, last-minute jobs, he also had to undergo so treatnt at Dr. Kang’s clinic.

Once the veil of secrecy was torn apart, Shen Jingwei was faced with the brutality of Yan Renzhong’s illness.

Yan Renzhong often woke up in the middle of the night due to severe headaches or nausea.

He was told not to read a book, watch television, or scroll through his phone to avoid straining his eyes. In the end, all he could do was lean against a stack of pillows and stare off into the distance.

When Shen Jingwei happened to wake up as well, he would lay on top of Yan Renzhong and keep him warm.

He convinced himself that his presence did help, but he also knew that it was nothing but an illusion.

The brain tumor in Yan Renzhong’s brain remained untouched. Until they removed it during the upcoming surgery.

Eventually, one day after storming out of Dr. Kang’s clinic that ti, he returned alone in secret to beg Dr. Kang for so tips.

"I want to know what I can do to help him, or at least make him feel more comfortable," Shen Jingwei told the neurologist. "Please tell , I will do everything in my might."

Dr. Kang, who initially did not have a good impression of Shen Jingwei because he slapped his severely ill patient, eventually cracked under Shen Jingwei’s persistence.

He shared so relaxation techniques Shen Jingwei could use to help Yan Renzhong sleep better.

"The most important thing to do right now is simply to be there for him. Talk to him, and take him out for so light exercises. It is not easy, I know, given Yan Renzhong’s temperant, but if anyone can do it, then it’s you."

Shen Jingwei also learned how to cook healthy and nutritious als to boost Yan Renzhong’s energy.

He made a point of buying a big bag of rolled oats, which he prepared into a bowl of oat porridge, topped with so raisins and cinnamon powder.

Yan Renzhong hated it with every fiber of his being.

Thankfully, Song Xiaoling was kind enough to take the rest ho. According to her, Song Yaya was fond of oatal pancakes.

Although Song Xiaoling initially planned to move to her mother’s house in a small town, she ended up changing her plan. Her mother decided to move to the city instead, leaving her hotown behind to join the siblings.

Right now, the three of them were living happily in the house Yan Renzhong bought.

Yan Renzhong told Song Xiaoling about the brain tumor and the surgery while Shen Jingwei took Song Yaya out for a walk in the park.

Song Xiaoling was shocked by the unexpected news, but she promised to keep it a secret from Song Yaya. There was no need for Song Yaya to grieve for Yan Renzhong before the latter was buried six feet under, so they agreed.

anwhile, the assimilation process of Beihai Entertainnt’s talents into CNC Studio was completed successfully. Almost half of the talents failed the assessnt and had to join other entertainnt companies. The rest were accepted as new additions to CNC Studio.

To celebrate, the latter group decided to flock together at a nightclub for a night of networking.

Shen Jingwei, too, was naturally invited.

Earlier that day, Jin Zhuo and Lang Yuxuan t up in a remote alley, right behind said nightclub. Jin Zhuo already ca up with a final plan to eliminate Shen Jingwei from the entertainnt industry for good, and he needed Lang Yuxuan’s help.

"Shen Jingwei is going to attend a party in this nightclub tonight," Jin Zhuo explained. "I know so of them. I already ask them to make sure that Shen Jingwei’s glass is always full with beer. You only have one job to do."

Jin Zhuo held a small sachet of unknown powder between his two fingers and held it out in Lang Yuxuan’s direction.

"This is just a potent sleeping drug in powdered form. All you need to do is slip this drug into Shen Jingwei’s glass. Don’t worry, his glass is marked. I will tell you which glass it is later on."

"..."

"After you pour the entire content, slip away. Make sure no one sees you. I will arrange for the thugs to co and take Shen Jingwei away. Don’t worry, no one will find out."

Lang Yuxuan hesitated, but he eventually took the sachet from Jin Zhuo.
