Shen Jingwei recalled the first ti he stepped foot into the coffee shop.
At that ti, he had already broken up with Yan Renzhong for so ti. His father had already disowned him, and he was still diligently participating in any audition to launch his career.
Unfortunately, during the waiting ti, he still needed to pay monthly rent and feed himself.
A classmate from acting academy referred him to the Handso Butler Coffee Shop, claiming that it was the haven for all newbie actors who were waiting for their breakthroughs.
At that ti, just like other butlers, he thought he would only be there for a month, three months top.
He didn’t expect to work there for three long years.
Shen Jingwei closed his eyes and exhaled slowly.
Sure, it was just a temporary job that no one took seriously. But it was a job that sustained his life for three whole years.
And it was going to sustain many more wannabe actors in years to co, if only Head Butler Wu survived this storm.
Shen Jingwei wanted to help.
He really wanted to help.
But how...?
The situation was deteriorating rapidly with each passing day, as ti relentlessly ticked away without any intervention.
What if the Handso Butler Coffee Shop closed down?
What was going to happen to Head Butler Wu...?
When Shen Jingwei woke up the next morning, feeling groggy, he received a ssage from Yan Renzhong.
"Today, after shooting, I will take you to et my lawyer."
Shen Jingwei’s heart skipped a beat.
In anticipation of the eting, he worked zealously throughout the day and completed his scenes in a single take.
By the ti Yan Renzhong finished shooting his last scene and headed to his hotel room to take a shower, Shen Jingwei was already standing at his door like a debt collector.
"I can’t wait," he murmured. "Can we go now?"
Yan Renzhong laughed.
He opened the door and pulled Shen Jingwei into his hotel room. Scent of soap and shampoo wafted from Shen Jingwei’s body, entering Yan Renzhong’s nasal passage when he lowered his head to kiss Shen Jingwei.
"Patience, Jingbao," he said. "Let get ready first."
Hui Jingchen, originally an exclusive lawyer for CNC Studio, was tasked with filing lawsuits against those who defad the entertainnt company’s celebrities.
Due to Yan Renzhong’s imnse popularity, the sheer number of his adversaries necessitated a dedicated lawyer. This led to Hui Jingchen being assigned exclusively to Yan Renzhong’s legal affairs.
Lawyer Hui’s office was located at the 42th floor of a skyscraper building, practically the tallest building in the city at the mont.
Since he mainly handled Yan Renzhong, his doors were closed at all tis.
They were only open to receive those who already secured appointnts with him.
The lawyer in question was a middle-aged man who looked a lot younger than his age. A single streak of grey hair was visible in his otherwise a full head of jetblack hair, presumably left there for style only.
When Yan Renzhong and Shen Jingwei stepped into the office, Hui Jingchen left his desk to greet them.
"My na is Hui Jingchen, I am Mr. Yan Renzhong’s exclusive lawyer. Mr. Yan has asked to defend Mr. Wu regarding his coffee shop’s operation."
Shen Jingwei shook his extended hand almost too eagerly.
"What can I do to help?"
Lawyer Hui pointed at two armchairs in front of the desk.
"Please take your seat first. As of now, the Handso Butler Coffee Shop has already suspended its operation and Head Butler Wu Xueming has been called into the police station.
I was there today to introduce myself and offer my service to him, free of charge on his side, of course."
The dismal profit an honest coffee shop made after years could impossibly cover Hui Jingchen’s hourly wage, that’s for sure.
"Having thoroughly investigated the allegations, we formulated a case and decided to sue the individual responsible for spreading them."
The lawyer’s gaze settled on Shen Jingwei.
"In order to successfully carry out this plan, we need as many supporters as possible."
Shen Jingwei quickly picked up the cue.
"I am willing to testify on Head Butler Wu’s behalf."
"Thank you, Mr. Shen, for your willingness. Unfortunately, I need more people to share your enthusiasm."
"Why is it not enough with just alone? I was there for three years. I should know if there’s any prostitution incident or not."
"You were an ex-employee," Lawyer Hui pointed out. "Your testimony alone wouldn’t be strong enough to restore Handso Butler Coffee Shop’s reputation. We must proceed cautiously to avoid potential backlash from a failed lawsuit."
"..."
Lawyer Hui retrieved a list of nas from his desk.
"Mr. Wu handed this list. It contained the nas of all the butlers who worked at the coffee shop from the first day it opened. If we can secure their cooperation, it would help imnsely."
Shen Jingwei went through the list.
During his employnt period at the Handso Butler Coffee Shop, he ca to know approximately twenty of them, around a fifth of the nas listed out in the piece of paper.
"I can try contacting a few of them," he said. "I still have them on WeChat. Will twenty people be enough?"
"No. I am thinking of having at least 95% of the list," Lawyer Hui decided.
"..."
Shen Jingwei’s face darkened considerably.
Seeing his client’s discouraged expression, Lawyer Hui started explaining.
"At the very least, we must secure their cooperation to prevent them from hindering the lawsuit. Otherwise, it is too risky a move to make."
Shen Jingwei’s blood ran cold in his veins.
95%? That ant around 95 people in total.
He didn’t even know where to begin to search for these people.
Yan Renzhong casually took the list from Shen Jingwei’s hand and scan the nas from top to bottom.
"Contact whom you can contact," he told his boyfriend in a calm and relaxed manner. "Leave the rest to ."
