The wait was nerve-wracking. Thankfully, Shen Jingwei found himself a very good distraction.
The second shooting period of Dance Of The Dragon’s second season began soon afterward. Following Xie Jianyu’s return to the Heavenly Realm, his oga gender was revealed. The empire was steeped in subsequent chaos, starting with the palace masters’ claim to the Dragon Throne down to Liu Wenyuan’s trial.
With so many palace scenes to shoot, Peak Point Shooting Studio beca the focal shooting venue for the period.
In contrast to Yan Renzhong, who had scenes to shoot every day, Shen Jingwei only needed to make occasional appearance now and then.
Thus Yan Renzhong had to stay at CNC Hotel for the duration of the shooting period, but Shen Jingwei only had to co to the studio when he had to shoot a scene.
The nights Shen Jingwei spent alone in Yan Renzhong’s lavish apartnt in Red Jade Pavilion were lonely, but the days spent unable to speak with his beloved were even lonelier.
Thankfully, he had an ample support system to rely on -- Feng Jietang and Lin Ruoye.
When they did not have to shoot any scene, the three people were often seen together, chatting and laughing with each other while rehearsing their lines in remote corners.
"Ah, such a relaxing day is difficult to co by," Feng Jietang exclaid, stretching his arms overhead and arching his back. A series of satisfying pops echoed as he cracked his spine, prompting a contented growl to escape his lips.
"Truly, truly."
Lin Ruoye was holding a portable hand fan, aid at her face and neck.
"These past few weeks did not feel like any shooting break at all. I had so many jobs lined up that I could barely eat or sleep!"
Feng Jietang arched a brow at his junior.
"Little Lin, ah, are you low-key bragging, or what?"
Lin Ruoye gasped in response. "No! Senior Feng, how could you say that about ? Besides, it’s not like you two are so free these days! Senior Feng has been busy with the shooting of the action movie and the preparation for the upcoming criminal drama series! And I saw Senior Shen on television the entire ti!"
Shen Jingwei almost choked on his drink.
The comrcials he shot way back were starting to show on television. His old acquaintances knew faintly that he was an aspiring actor, but only after seeing his face in comrcials did they fully realize the extent of Shen Jingwei’s teoric rise in the entertainnt industry.
The congratulatory ssages ca in all kinds and forms.
So were genuine, such as, "Aiyah, Little Shen! Long ti no see! Auntie is so happy about your success! And have you beco more and more handso in recent years?"
So harbored hidden intent, such as, "Shen Jingwei, do you still rember ? I am your old classmate, Wang Chunli. Listen, you probably don’t know but I have always wanted to be an actor. Attached is my portfolio, please take a look at it and pass it to any director you know, alright? Please!!!"
So were downright envious, such as, "Don’t get cocky just because you show up on television several tis. You didn’t even do that well when you were still enrolled in the academy!"
"No, no," Shen Jingwei waved his hands dismissively. "Those were just several comrcials, nothing more."
Lin Ruoye sucked a lungful of breath in disapproval.
"Comrcials can land you a lot of opportunities, Senior Shen!" She cried out. "I am sure that you are going to land many more roles in near future. Or maybe you already did?"
Shen Jingwei let out a burst of nervous laughter.
"Well, I did participate in an audition..."
"And I am not allowed to breathe a word about the result," Feng Jietang quickly said before anyone even posed him the question.
Lin Ruoye widened her eyes in astonishnt.
"Eyes Of The Hunter? I read the script! It is amazing! What role did you audition for, Senior Shen?"
"Su Jiahong, the major villain role."
"Oooh! Why, it doesn’t suit your image at all!"
"..."
Lin Ruoye was blunt by nature. Too blunt sotis.
Feng Jietang draped an arm around Shen Jingwei’s shoulder and said, "Don’t say that, Ruoye. You haven’t seen him during the second stage. This guy gave goosebumps when he acted Su Jiahong out in the first showdown between the protagonist and the antagonist."
Eyes widened in surprise, Lin Ruoye’s mouth twisted into a huge O.
"Not many actors and actresses can stand on par with Senior Feng!" She cried out. "Oh my gosh, Senior Shen, you must be quite amazing. I cannot wait to see you perform!"
A bead of sweat ran down Shen Jingwei’s temple.
"Well, the audition result isn’t out yet. Let’s see."
"You three seem to be enjoying your ti here greatly," an unhappy voice was heard behind them.
They turned their heads at the sa ti to look at Ye Lingxia’s sour face.
"Senior Ye!" All three of them shouted in unison.
Ye Lingxia pursed her lips.
"Here we are, working hard on the set, and the three of you are here, enjoying so potato chips and soft drinks! Where is mine???" She demanded.
Ever the conscientious junior, Lin Ruoye hurried to the snack table to get Ye Lingxia so food and drinks.
anwhile, Feng Jietang grinned from ear to ear and bowed before her. "General Wu is working hard as always. Respect, respect."
Ye Lingxia scoffed.
"Uh, Senior Ye, has Yan Renzhong finished his scenes for the day?" Shen Jingwei asked. He tried his best to ignore Feng Jietang’s eye-rolling next to him.
Ye Lingxia took a sip from a bottle of mineral water and sighed contentedly.
"I doubt. He still needs to shoot so scenes until the end of the day. What’s wrong? Do you need to talk to him? If yes, do it now before they usher him into another scene."
Ye Lingxia gestured toward a direction.
"He’s over there, being prepared for the next scene."
"Right. Excuse ."
Shen Jingwei bolted away to find Yan Renzhong. The latter was lounging on a chair while the make-up artists fussed around him like a swarm of busy bees.
"Hey," he said when he caught sight of Shen Jingwei. "Are you done for today?"
Shen Jingwei smiled to himself.
Their interaction in public was always sowhat stiff because they had to hide their relationship.
"Yes. Yan Renzhong, do you think you might go ho tonight?"
Not expecting the question, Yan Renzhong furrowed his brows at him.
"No chance," he said. "In fact, I don’t think that I can go ho in three days or more."
The answer was akin to a boulder dropping to the pit of Shen Jingwei’s stomach.
"Oh."
He could barely conceal his disappointnt.
"What’s wrong?" Yan Renzhong asked. "Is there anything urgent for to attend to?"
"..."
Shen Jingwei gaped at Yan Renzhong.
Did Yan Renzhong forget?
Tomorrow was Shen Jingwei’s birthday.
