Shang Ruohai looked like a father who just found his son a bride. In his joy, he proceeded to kick the Feng siblings out of the room.
Feng Jietang, who was all hollow inside, obediently left like a mindless zombie.
Feng Jieyun was not as obedient.
"Wait, why am I also getting kicked out?" He protested. "Should I not be included in this little celebration?"
Shang Ruohai gave the CEO of the rival company a victorious sneer.
"Why must you be included? Now that Shen Jingwei is dating CNC Studio’s actor, you can stop dreaming about recruiting him into Yunhuan Entertainnt."
He drew a particular pleasure from slamming the door in front of Feng Jieyun’s face.
Once Shang Ruohai turned on his heel and faced Shen Jingwei and Yan Renzhong, the schadenfreude on his face was replaced by genuine joy.
"This calls for a celebration, hm?" He grinned at the both of them. "Let order so bottles of champagne. Let’s drink to the occasion!"
"Wait," Shen Jingwei interjected. "Aren’t you worried at all? Shouldn’t we keep it a secret?"
Shang Ruohai gave him a bewildered look.
"Why should we keep it a secret? I am close to announcing your engagent on ’3, 2, 1... Action!’s website."
"..."
"I think we should address the main issue here," Yan Renzhong said. "Soone is trying to sabotage the drama."
"Maybe," Shang Ruohai allowed, "or your dear stepfather is just trying to get more money out of you."
"If that is his intention, coming here tonight to ruin my reputation in public is the wrong move to make," Yan Renzhong argued. "What money would I give him if my career is done for?"
"Maybe it’s not your money that he craves. It is soone else’s," Shen Jingwei pointed out.
Shang Ruohai snapped his fingers and pointed at Shen Jingwei.
"Bingo."
"So what are we going to do?" Shen Jingwei asked.
"Let handle that."
Shang Ruohai straightened his suit with a broad smile.
"I never failed to catch sewer rats and track them to their damnedest lairs. Tonight, I simply want to celebrate your arrival to CNC Studio, Shen Jingwei."
"No."
Yan Renzhong shook his head and put an arm protectively around Shen Jingwei’s waist.
"Shen Jingwei should decide which company to join on his own. My relationship with him should not be a deciding factor."
Upon hearing his junior’s words, Shang Ruohai clicked with his tongue in disapproval.
He started pacing in front of the happy couple in long strides, his brows pulled together in a tight knit.
"I haven’t heard of happy-ending love stories where both parties insist on staying with their families, have you? Even Juliet has to enter the Montague family if she wants to marry Roo and live happily ever after with him."
"We are no Roo and Juliet," Yan Renzhong said flatly.
"Of course you are not. If you were, you would be dead already," Shang Ruohai snapped.
"..."
"..."
"Fine with . Move to CNC Studio in your own ti, Shen Jingwei, but you will have to join CNC Studio eventually, you know that. The earlier you join, the better. We can guarantee that you never have to see Song Zhuguan in this life, ever again."
"By the way, what are you going to do with Song Zhuguan?" Yan Renzhong asked.
Shang Ruohai shrugged.
"Maybe I will stick him into prison and pay several guards to beat him up."
"..."
Shen Jingwei was not sure how to describe Shang Ruohai’s character. To put it subtly, he was the most suitable person to play the ruthless future Heavenly Emperor, Xie Jianshen.
"Don’t," Yan Renzhong said, tension returning to his brows. "He is still Xiaoling and Yaya’s father."
When Xiaoling and Yaya’s nas fell into the conversation, Shang Ruohai’s deanor changed sowhat. His eyes flickered toward Shen Jingwei for a brief mont before he gave his retort.
"I see that you have told Little Shen here about the events of three years ago."
Shen Jingwei nodded.
"We talked."
"Oho. And what exactly did you talk about?"
"The truth," Yan Renzhong said plainly. "That Song Zhuguan burdened my mother and with his gambling debts, and that you offered to clear said debts in return for my silence about the video."
"Ah."
Shang Ruohai stared at Shen Jingwei with such intensity that gave the latter inexplicable discomfort.
"And what do you feel after you find out the truth, Shen Jingwei?"
"Relief, I guess," Shen Jingwei replied. "It is good to see the whole picture for once."
"I see."
Shang Ruohai nodded in apprehension.
"That’s good then."
"If there’s nothing else to talk about, I would like to take Shen Jingwei back ho," Yan Renzhong said. "It has been a turbulent night for the both of us."
Shang Ruohai nodded.
"Sure. By the way, Yan Renzhong, I need to talk to you about that other movie we spoke about last week. Can you stay for a mont?"
"Sure."
Yan Renzhong squeezed at Shen Jingwei waist and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
"Jingbao, I just need to discuss this newest project with Shang Ruohai for a while. Can you wait outside for ?"
"Of course."
Shen Jingwei patted at Yan Renzhong’s chest lightly before he left the room.
The door closed with a distinct clicking sound.
Shang Ruohai took a deep breath before he began, "You only told ’Jingbao’ half the truth."
Yan Renzhong scoffed.
"The truth consists of many layers. While it’s tempting to explore them all, sotis the outermost layer provides enough insight. Delving deeper can be a painful endeavor, offering but a little in return."
Shang Ruohai folded his arms and sank into the nearest chair.
"The way I see it, he is the kind of person who appreciates honesty above everything."
"And I am the kind of person who does not like unnecessary pain," Yan Renzhong said.
Shang Ruohai tilted his head to the side.
"A relationship is all about balance."
"I agree."
Shang Ruohai pursed his lips. Steepling his fingers on the desk, he stared at Yan Renzhong and asked, "Do you suspect that he is the person behind Song Zhuguan’s appearance tonight?"
"Yes," Yan Renzhong answered. "It can only be him."
"Well then, it is best if Shen Jingwei does not join CNC Studio for now," Shang Ruohai said with a sigh. "We need to eliminate the sewer rats first."
