Before the voice fell, she had already stood up.

Snow Fitch looked up at her, "Why are you in such a hurry! Did Christopher Hart urge you again? You... spoil him!"

"No, he—"

Alia Garcia was about to explain when Charles Smith looked up at her and gently said, "I’m also in a hurry. Let’s finish eating together, and I’ll tell you about his post-rehabilitation situation."

Talking about Christopher Hart’s leg, Alia Garcia couldn’t move.

So, she sat down again.

Charles Smith was indeed in a hurry, so everyone sped up eating.

Quickly, Snow Fitch called the waiter to pay the bill.

"Let , it’s not right to let a woman pay." Charles Smith hurriedly scanned the QR code and paid.

Just as he was about to stand up, Snow Fitch’s phone rang. Seeing it was her mother’s call, she didn’t dare delay and quickly answered.

Seeing her walk outside, Alia Garcia turned and naturally followed.

Charles Smith was the last to stand up. As he passed the table, he discreetly pulled out the straw from Alia Garcia’s drink cup.

Outside the restaurant, Snow Fitch was arduously explaining to her mother that she was just having a crush and asked them not to hope too much or do anything rash.

She didn’t know what was said on the other side, but she wailed and started acting, "Mom, what are you saying? I can’t hear you... Can’t hear, mom? Hello? Signal is bad here... Mom, oh, I can’t hear—"

Acting while hanging up the phone.

Alia Garcia quietly watched from the side. When Snow Fitch hung up, she silently gave her a thumbs-up and added two words, "Best Actress!"

Snow Fitch knocked her hand away, "Go away!"

On the other side, Charles Smith pressed the elevator button, already waiting for the car to arrive, and then stood like a gentleman at the elevator door.

After the two ladies went in, he followed.

In the elevator, Alia Garcia quietly stepped aside to let her friend get closer to the man she liked.

Snow Fitch glanced at her, frowned, winked, and gestured strongly with her hand as if to say—What are you doing? Stand back!

Alia Garcia smiled without speaking, took out her phone, and reported her itinerary to soone.

In the elevator, with just the three of them, it was suddenly quiet, the atmosphere was particularly awkward.

Finally, the elevator reached the underground parking lot.

As they walked out, Snow Fitch was about to wave goodbye when Charles Smith looked at them and proactively said, "Um... I needed to say a few words to Miss Fitch."

Huh?

Alia Garcia was surprised and looked at them closely.

Snow Fitch also beca nervous imdiately, her expression stiffened, "What... what do you want to say?"

"I’ll go first, you two talk slowly." Alia Garcia deliberately glanced at her friend, waved at them, and turned away.

Only the two of them were left, standing at the elevator hall exit, the lighting wasn’t considered bright, but the emotions on their faces were clear.

Snow Fitch’s mind was in turmoil, imagining two possibilities—

The first was that he would reject her, clearly indicating that he had no feelings for her, and they could at most be friends.

The second was that he might also like her and was willing to try a deeper relationship.

In just a mont, Snow Fitch’s palms were sweaty with nervousness, and her legs felt weak.

And Charles Smith, his mood was equally complex at that mont.

The girl in front of him was straightforward, cheerful, and positively sunny. Being with her would surely be happy and relaxed.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t free.

"Miss Fitch, your family elders are all in good health, please... don’t bring them to book my appointnts anymore, running those tests isn’t cheap." After so thought, to protect the girl’s dignity, Charles Smith spoke very gently.

Snow Fitch originally had her head down, with her fingers constantly picking at her palms to alleviate her inner nervousness.

Upon hearing these words, her whole body froze, and even the nervousness stopped abruptly.

She raised her eyes, widened them, looking at the handso, elegant young man in front of her, clearly hearing the sound of her heart breaking.

Except for the ti in high school when she rebelliously pursued the school heartthrob, she hadn’t actively pursued any man these years—not knowing that after finally mustering the courage to take another step, the result would be this dire.

They say when a girl pursues a boy, it’s separated only by a flimsy veil, so why, when it was her turn, felt like an explosion-proof tempered glass?

"I..." Snow Fitch stared dazedly at the man for a long ti, her lips moved, making a sound, but she didn’t know how to respond.

Forcing a smile, she awkwardly intertwined her fingers, finally stumbling through a response, "Okay, I understand... Sorry for bothering you these days."

"You don’t have to be so polite. I’m just saying their health is fine, you don’t have to make unnecessary trips but in the future, in case... I an, they’re older, and if there’s a need, don’t hesitate. If there’s anything I can help with, I’ll do my best. Of course, I hope you and your family never need my help."

Charles Smith, looking at her forced smile, inexplicably felt a pang in his heart, so he spoke a few more words.

Snow Fitch smiled again, more exaggeratedly than before, "Yeah! I don’t want to need you, that would be a good thing!"

"Yes," the man nodded, smiling, "if you co to , it’s definitely not a good thing."

Since the aning was clear, there were no more words between them.

Charles Smith checked his watch, in a hurry, "Then... I’ll go now."

"Hmm..." Snow Fitch, after laughing, looked down, nodding in response.

But when the man turned to leave, she couldn’t help herself and suddenly asked, "Can I know the reason?"

Charles Smith turned back.

She fought back the tears in her eyes, took a deep breath, cald herself, smiled, and asked, "Is it... that you already have soone you like?"

He thought for a mont and said bluntly, "I have a fiancée."

Snow Fitch suddenly froze.

A fiancée?

How is that possible?

Alia once said she heard firsthand from that private kitchen owner that it was the first ti in years seeing him with a girl—how could he have a fiancée?

Of course, she couldn’t ask this aloud, otherwise, it would be deaning, wouldn’t it?

After the shock, she woke up like from a dream, nodding repeatedly, "I understand now, sorry, it was my misunderstanding... then I wish you two the best!"

Charles Smith smiled, "Thank you."

Watching his retreating figure, Snow Fitch dazedly stared for a while, only snapping out of it when soone else ca out of the elevator hall.

How tragic! But also lucky!

Fortunately, he made things clear early on; otherwise, if she unknowingly beca a third party, if the fiancée found out and made a scene, it would have been a disaster!

With that thought, remarkably, the discomfort in her heart eased significantly.

Back in the car, her phone rang. She didn’t need to look to know who was calling.

"Hello..."

On the other side, Alia Garcia curiously asked, "What happened? Were you rejected, or..."

"What do you think?" Snow Fitch put on her Bluetooth headset, started the engine, ready to go ho.

Alia Garcia imdiately understood from her tone, asking cautiously, "Did he reject you?"

"Hmm..."

"Did he give a reason?"

"I asked, he said he has a fiancée."

"What?" Alia Garcia was shocked, "He has a fiancée? How... How is that possible?"
