"I don’t know him." Christopher Hart turned his head away, giving no face at all.
Alia Garcia felt extrely awkward!
She could only look apologetically at Charles Smith, hoping he wouldn’t take offense.
Charles Smith had already guessed Christopher’s temperant, which was why he didn’t inform Alia in advance, fearing they would "dismiss" him as the chief surgeon.
Now it seems his intuition was indeed correct.
Since everyone was present, the consultation began.
Several doctors in white coats sat down, and Director Lewis was about to speak when Christopher suddenly asked, "Does this surgery have to be done by an outsider?"
Alia turned her head quickly to look at him—what did he an? Was he really being difficult?
Director Lewis paused for a mont and asked cautiously, "Mr. Hart, when you say ’outsider,’ you an..."
"Him." Christopher’s chin pointed subtly in Charles Smith’s direction.
All the doctors looked toward Charles Smith.
Charles Smith smiled ambiguously, crossed his arms in front of his chest, pushed his glasses up his nose with one finger, and then asked unhurriedly, "Mr. Hart, since we don’t know each other, where does your hostility toward co from?"
"The vibes don’t match."
The vibe...
Alia was so angry she was grinding her teeth, she gave him a smack under the table, then turned to give him a glare, reminding him not to act up and to stop when appropriate.
But Christopher ignored her.
"I just don’t believe that in a big place like River City, Charles is the only one who can perform this surgery."
Charles chuckled again, glanced at his watch, "Alright, after all, you’re the patient, whether it hurts or not is on you, it has nothing to do with ."
Before he could finish speaking, he had already stood up, looked at Director Lewis, "Teacher Lewis, you see this, the patient’s personality is quite distinct, so I’ll leave him to you to handle."
He pulled back his chair to leave, suddenly Alia stood up, "Doctor Smith, please stay!"
Christopher looked up at her, "What are you doing?"
"Shut up!" Alia gave him a fierce look, stopping him, then turned her head back to face Charles Smith, her beautiful face once again showing a smile—still respectful, polite, and admiring.
"Doctor Smith, you don’t need to mind his attitude. Since Director Lewis recomnded you, it surely ans your dical skills are superior, please perform the surgery for him."
Alia now had a very good impression of Charles Smith, from his humble and courteous deanor, his unflinching rescue efforts at the accident scene, and Director Lewis’s strong recomndation—all the signs combined made her trust this doctor imnsely.
With her man’s ability to walk at stake, she couldn’t be careless, nor let soone throw a tantrum.
Charles turned back, his eyes behind the glasses gliding between Alia and Christopher, "You can decide?"
Alia looked down at soone, ignoring the dark expression, turned back and said, "Of course!"
"Alia you..."
Christopher was angry, about to refute, but was reprimanded by her, "If you want to abandon you, just keep opposing !"
She lowered her voice, teeth clenched.
Christopher: "..."
"Think carefully."
Under Alia’s strong and stern attitude, Mr. Hart reaffird his reputation as a "wife-fearing" man—though dissatisfied, he pressed his lips together and said nothing more.
Among the doctors present, apart from Charles whose attitude was sowhat enjoying the show, the others who knew Christopher’s temper were too cautious to speak.
To know, last year when Christopher was lying in the hospital, anyone from various departnts who ca into contact with him was too frightened to breathe.
Unexpected...
Now even Mr. Hart has t his match, surprisingly knocked speechless by a seemingly delicate and tender woman, admitting defeat.
"Doctor Smith, please have a seat. Discuss with Director Lewis and the team how to proceed with the treatnt. We will fully cooperate." After subduing Christopher, Alia gestured with a charming smile.
The doctors were quite impressed too.
It turned out a beautiful woman could also have a majestic side.
Charles returned to his seat, reopened the folder, and began discussing the patient’s condition with Director Lewis’s team.
Christopher was in a bad mood, his face naturally cold and icy.
Alia looked at him, whispering a persuasion, "Don’t act on impulse, he hasn’t offended you. Shouldn’t you be happy that he’s willing to perform surgery for you?"
"But the way he looks at you isn’t quite right."
"You’re making things up again! He knows our relationship and knows I have a child. With his prominent status, would he be interested in ?"
Christopher snorted coldly, "Matters of the heart, who can say."
"I don’t bother arguing with you! Anyway, you’re not allowed to act up again. Obey the doctor’s orders and get the surgery done soon!"
Christopher kept a stern face and said nothing more.
Alia originally didn’t want to deal with him, but sohow now she couldn’t harden her heart against him, so she softened and took his hand, her tone growing gentler, "You get well soon, so I can be at ease... You keep saying you care about , that you want to protect , is protecting by sitting in a wheelchair all the ti?"
"As long as your leg can be treated, I don’t care what kind of background the other party has. You’re a grown man, can’t you have so sense? Just acting like a three-year-old child."
n generally respond better to softness than to hardness, and Mr. Hart was no exception.
Being coaxed publicly by the woman he loved, his dissatisfaction gradually dissipated.
After the consultation ended, Charles moved from the desk to Christopher, examining him closely to judge the condition of his leg.
Alia watched him squat in front of Christopher, carefully tapping here and there, showing no concern for the immature rejection and hostility from the man-child earlier, her heart grew even more admiring of this doctor.
A doctor’s benevolence, he certainly lived up to those words.
After a while, Charles seed to have a serious look on his face, pushed his glasses, and Alia worriedly asked, "How is it? Is the situation very bad?"
"Hmm... a bit. Maybe it’s not just an issue with the leg nerves; there might be damage to the lumbar spine too. Director Lewis said you’ve done comprehensive checks again today, wait for to get all the reports before we talk."
Alia’s heart sank slightly.
Lumbar spine...
Isn’t that serious indeed?
"We’ll stop here for today. You go and complete the inpatient procedures first, I’ll review the reports this afternoon, and tonight have another consultation with Director Lewis’s team. The surgery could be scheduled for tomorrow or the day after, the sooner the better."
Alia nodded repeatedly, "Hmm, then I’ll leave the trouble to Doctor Smith."
"Don’t ntion it." Charles smiled as his phone rang in his pocket, he signaled to her, then turned to take the call.
Alia instructed the bodyguard to handle the admission procedures, while she took Christopher to the ward.
In the elevator, Mr. Hart saw his beloved woman looking anxious and pulled her hand, sulking like a child, saying "Don’t listen to him... If I had a lumbar spine issue, I’d have been bedridden long ago, wouldn’t be standing! Doctors like to exaggerate and alarm people!"
Alia looked down at him, "You... If you don’t understand, don’t pretend to. Why not listen to the professional opinion?"
