"Two against one, do you think you can win?"

"You’re already injured, what do I have to fear?"

"He is my shield. True, I’m injured, but have my frost spikes been hard?"

The white-clothed assassin fell silent, his heart wavering, his gaze towards Plum Blossom and Woody shifting.

"For years, you’ve masqueraded under my na, spreading death. Today, you sought to end . These grievances will be settled, sooner or later. However, for now, engaging in battle would only lead to mutual destruction, and I can’t bear to see my brother hurt. Leave now."

"Hmph, I’ll spare you today."

The jade-faced asura pulled a black pill from his sleeve, threw it to the ground, and vanished without a trace amidst the black smoke.

Seeing the jade-faced asura gone, Woody hurriedly picked up his brother.

Touching Blight’s chest, he was instantly overco with tears.

"It’s stopped, stopped... Sister, you shouldn’t have let him go. My brother is dead, I want to fight that asura to the death!"

"Hold on, let see." Plum Blossom felt Blight’s pulse.

After a while, she said, "There might still be hope, the ti is near. Quick, bring your brother over here."

Woody, cradling Blight, followed Plum Blossom to a giant tree that once filled him with dread, but now, he had cast aside all fear.

"Alright, put him down."

Following Plum Blossom’s instructions, Woody laid Blight down next to a barren mound beside the giant tree.

This mound starkly contrasted with the surrounding scenery; devoid of any life, it looked like a grave.

Woody adjusted Blight’s position, ensuring he appeared to be resting comfortably in a semi-reclined posture.

Plum Blossom had unearthed an iron box long sealed beneath the earth, barehanded.

She used a frost spike to pry open the box and retrieved a wooden bowl from within.

Then, she placed the wooden bowl on a platform made of granite positioned in front of the mound.

Woody noticed that above this platform hung a pipe, also made by Woody himself.

"What’s there?"

Woody felt a headache coming on, as if mories were about to assault him again.

"Don’t be afraid, little brother," Plum Blossom approached, caressing his face, "You’ll know soon."

Ti ticked away slowly, with Woody growing increasingly restless.

Sitting on the ground, he felt both soothed and embarrassed as Plum Blossom stroked his face as if he were a child.

He remained clueless about what Plum Blossom was waiting for, and his brother beside them seed utterly lifeless.

Plum Blossom didn’t offer any explanations, only comfort.

At noon, when the sun reached its zenith, its intense rays forced Woody to blink, and upon reopening his eyes, he was transfixed.

A liquid, radiant as light itself, slowly flowed from the pipe, its color a rich golden reminiscent of mature wheat, yet intermittently flashing with different hues.

The liquid paused mid-air as if searching for sothing, then gently flowed down into the wooden bowl.

Plum Blossom approached, carefully lifting the bowl, wary of spilling its contents.

She squatted before Blight, turning to Woody, "This is lightwine."

"Ah, yes, lightwine," Woody responded chanically.

"Now, only lightwine can bring your brother’s soul back, but should it fail..."

Plum Blossom paused, noticing Woody shudder at the thought.

"Should it fail, I fear not even his body will remain intact."

"Mhm, I understand," Woody murmured, his lips quivering slightly as he added, "Let him drink it, as long as there’s still hope to save my brother."

After uttering these words, Woody lapsed back into a dazed state.

Plum Blossom cast a compassionate glance at Woody and sighed.

She then carefully brought the wooden bowl to Blight’s lips, gently prying them open.

The lightwine seed to "crawl" out of the bowl on its own, pausing at the rim before leaping into Blight’s mouth.

Blight’s body began to tremble violently, his flesh rapidly warming.

Plum Blossom withdrew a healing ice needle and inserted it into Blight’s chest.

Pushing the bowl aside with one hand, half-filled with lightwine still, she addressed the air, "Do you want this too?"

"I have no interest in it; that’s not sothing humans can control," jade-faced asura materialized beside the giant tree, his expressionless face carrying a hint of mockery.

"I should’ve known you wouldn’t let off easily. I was careless. I didn’t expect you to completely mask your presence with the spirit tree."

"Yes, without this spirit tree, even in your injured state, you’d have detected my faint presence."

Jade-faced asura chuckled, continuing, "To kill you, we’ve already paid too high a price, so I must seize this opportunity while you’re wounded."

"That fool lost his soul again at the sight of lightwine. Such is the fate of those who foolishly covet lightwine! Now, there’s no need for to hide my presence anymore. I’ll openly send you on your way."

Holding the bowl with the remaining lightwine, Plum Blossom dared not make any sudden moves.

She released all the frost spikes she had left in one swift motion.

The frost spikes shattered the palm energy unleashed by jade-faced asura but failed to hit him.

Jade-faced asura dodged left and right, avoiding the deadly hidden weapons before lunging directly at Plum Blossom.

In a desperate move, Plum Blossom gritted her teeth and hurled the wooden bowl straight at jade-faced asura.

The lightwine splashed into the air, and jade-faced asura, moving too swiftly to evade, got so on his left arm and left eye.

He let out a scream of agony, his right hand unhesitatingly gouging out his entire left eye.

Then, he drew a dagger and sliced off the flesh on his left arm tainted with lightwine, revealing a large segnt of bone.

The once handso face imdiately twisted into a visage of horror, and even Plum Blossom was shocked by jade-faced asura’s decisive actions.

"Die!" jade-faced asura scread, his dagger flying towards Plum Blossom at a speed barely visible to the naked eye.

This was jade-faced asura’s ultimate technique, originally ant for assassination, with the power within the dagger so subtle that those of lower cultivation couldn’t sense the impending danger.

But now, Plum Blossom felt the imnse power surging from the dagger, managing just in ti to twist her body to avoid a fatal blow, yet the dagger pierced her left shoulder.

Blood gushed forth, and Plum Blossom barely kept herself from falling, her previous injuries combined with this one virtually robbing her of any capacity to fight.

The frost spikes were all used up, perhaps signaling the mont of her demise.

Plum Blossom stood straight, closing her eyes.

Jade-faced asura had descended into madness, charging at Plum Blossom without his earlier composure, his eyes fixated solely on her, the woman who had splashed lightwine and destroyed his left eye.

He was determined to kill her.

In just a few seconds, he was upon her, raising his right hand to strangle Plum Blossom to death.

But suddenly, Woody’s face appeared before him.

"Hmm?" jade-faced asura could hardly believe his eyes.

He was sure he had been focusing on Plum Blossom in front of him; how did this fool appear out of nowhere?

"Act like the assassin you are supposed to be," Woody’s tone was vastly different from before, "Did you think you were a berserker?"

"Oh, I see," jade-faced asura clarified with his remaining right eye.

The fool hadn’t appeared in front of him; his neck had twisted to the side and back.

"It’s you who’s going to die." Woody completely crushed jade-faced asura’s neck bones and then drove his palm through the assassin’s chest.

Without giving the corpse another glance, he turned to help Plum Blossom up.

"Are you alright?"

"I’m fine," Plum Blossom opened her eyes, "Help over to your brother."

Woody lifted Plum Blossom and placed her beside Blight, whose body was still trembling.

"I regained my mories when I saw the lightwine, and at the sa ti, I sensed the assassin’s presence, so..."

"So, you pretended to be soulless, waiting for a chance to catch him off guard," Plum Blossom said while gripping Blight’s right hand, channeling arcanergy into him.

"Yes, although the lightwine helped regain my mories, it also temporarily threw my body’s powers into chaos. I recalled the Mystic Technique I had practiced before, but due to the turmoil, I couldn’t possibly defeat the asura head-on. So, I used you as bait, waiting for the right mont to strike."

"That strategy turned out to be effective."

"Plum Blossom... sister, seeing you hurt, I bla myself too. Had you died just now, I wouldn’t have wanted to live either," Woody looked earnestly at Plum Blossom.

A blush appeared on Plum Blossom’s face.

"Alright, you step aside now. Don’t disturb ; I’m going to try to wake your brother up."

"My brother and I share a bond deeper than life itself, can’t I help in so way?"

"No, in his current state, only I can bring him back," Plum Blossom said with a smile.

An ancient pattern erged on Blight’s hand.

Woody stepped back, observing as Plum Blossom softly chanted sothing, her lips moving silently while traces of blood still clung to the corners of her mouth.

Woody felt a pang in his heart.

...
