Chapter 103 – 102: ddling in Affairs

“You!” Chen Zihan was rendered speechless by Chen Guodong’s statent.

“I don’t want to talk to you anymore.” Chen Zihan turned her head and left, returning to her room.

Watching their daughter return to her room, the couple exchanged looks.

“Sigh, our daughter has grown up,” Chen Guodong sighed helplessly.

“Old Chen, what do you an by that?” Aunt Chen quickly asked, “You should take a stance, shouldn’t you?”

“What can I do?” Chen Guodong looked at his wife and said, “I can’t force Zi Han to be with Jiang Xiaoliang, can I? These things depend on fate and feelings. Understand?”

“Zi Han doesn’t know any better now; are you the sa?” Aunt Chen chid in, “No matter how good Xiao Han’s grades are or how high his achievents, could they ever surpass ida Group?”

“Let the child make her own decisions!” Chen Guodong left this remark and then entered his study, leaving Aunt Chen alone.

“No way, I absolutely cannot allow my daughter to be with Xiao Han.” Aunt Chen frowned.

Aunt Chen had her own calculations. In her view, Xiao Han’s family background was completely mismatched with her own. She knew that if her daughter ended up with him, she would suffer hardships. Aunt Chen understood the hardships of a woman; if one marries a man without a high inco, one is bound to struggle all their life.

As parents, who would want their daughter to endure hardship with another man? Who would want their child to lead a diocre life with soone else? As the saying goes, poverty brings a myriad of sorrows in marriage. Material wealth is the guarantee of love.

So people drive a hundred kiloters for a taste of free-range chicken soup, while others toil all day just for a full al. That’s the difference. The forr is about romance and happiness; the latter is about sustenance and survival. Naturally, Aunt Chen hoped her daughter could live a life of romance and happiness, not one where she had to toil endlessly just to et her basic needs and survive.

……

Leaving Fulin Garden, Xiao Han was still very happy in his heart; after all, receiving Chen Zihan’s love was a very fortunate affair.

Once Christmas was over, the final exams quickly approached.

By now, it was senior year, and the countdown to the national college entrance exams had begun. Almost every week there was a small test, and every month, a major one. Nearly every day was filled with exams. However, after entering senior year, everyone had grown accustod to these regular tests. Each person was working hard in order to improve.

It had to be said that under Liu Jini’s tutelage, everyone in class three of senior year was aiming straight for the college entrance exams. Those with good grades hoped to enter a prestigious university, while those with lower grades also aspired to make progress in the remaining half-year and secure admission to a vocational college.

This year’s January 23rd was New Year’s Eve.

Therefore, the final exams were scheduled for January 10th. Starting from the 9th, students from other grades were on vacation, leaving the classrooms mostly available for senior year students to take their exams.

“Xiaoliang, you’ve got it made!” A boy envied Jiang Xiaoliang and said, “You’re going straight to Tsinghua University without even needing to take the exams.”

“I still have to take them,” Jiang Xiaoliang chuckled and said, “Everyone else is, it wouldn’t look good if I didn’t.”

“What does that matter!” the boy said, grinning, “You’re a recomnded student personally endorsed by the principal. Once the college entrance exams are over, you’ll be one of the first to receive Tsinghua University’s admission notice. Just thinking about it feels amazing!”

Jiang Xiaoliang carried a proud look on his face, and in a mont of pride, he unexpectedly turned his head to look at Xiao Han.

Xiao Han was imrsed in reading. In fact, with Xiao Han’s capabilities, he could handle the college entrance exams without any issue if the test were to start right now. His weakness was concentrated in Chinese language arts, particularly reading comprehension and poetry morization. After all, since freshman year, he hadn’t studied or morized the Chinese language textbooks earnestly.

By now, the oversight had gradually added up. At this ti, Xiao Han was focusing on morizing the contents of these texts.

“Still morizing textbooks at this ti?” Jiang Xiaoliang sneered, then said, “Talk about cramming at the last minute!”

“What’s it to you?” Xiao Han retorted irritably.

“Oh, touchy, aren’t we?” Upon hearing this, Jiang Xiaoliang slowly approached and added, “I’m just making a casual remark. Is that also wrong?”

Xiao Han replied with disdain, “A dog ddling in a mouse’s affairs—mind your own business!”

“You!” Jiang Xiaoliang imdiately beca furious.

“What? You want to fight?” Xiao Han stood up instantly.

Jiang Xiaoliang backed away several steps at once. His left arm was still not healed; how could he dare to start a fight? Moreover, Jiang Xiaoliang had gotten a taste of Xiao Han’s prowess and was even less inclined to make a rash move.

“Fine, you’re tough!” Jiang Xiaoliang said smugly, “I am a soon-to-be student of Tsinghua University. I can’t stoop to your level.”

“`

“Yes, you are aweso,” Xiao Han nodded.

“Hehe…” Jiang Xiaoliang laughed proudly once again.

Nowadays, all the students in LJ City No.1 High School knew that Jiang Xiaoliang had obtained the qualification for direct admission. Everyone was very envious of him. Wherever he went, Jiang Xiaoliang was always the center of attention. The sole reason was that he was a direct admission student for Tsinghua University.

Just this identity alone was enough to make many girls infatuated with him, kindling romantic feelings, and so even secretly slipped him love letters. These love letters had beco Jiang Xiaoliang’s bragging rights.

“What’s so great about that!” Jiang Xiaoliang returned to his seat and then said with a mix of sarcasm and ridicule, “So what if soone’s grades are higher than mine? They still have to struggle and work hard for the college entrance exam. Who knows if they can even reach the admission score line for an undergraduate program!”

“Exactly.” The boy next to him agreed, laughing, “Xiaoliang, you should just ignore him.”

“Forget it, forget it, I am a direct admission student after all. What’s there to compare with a regular student?” Jiang Xiaoliang retorted irritably.

Xiao Han, of course, wouldn’t stoop to Jiang Xiaoliang’s level. With Xiao Han’s personality, he would certainly not provoke others intentionally. Xiao Han is a very low-profile person; he doesn’t show off wealth or act arrogantly.

Soon, the end-of-term exams proceeded as scheduled.

The two-day finals went smoothly, and Xiao Han’s exams were also very successful. This ti, he estimated his score to be above seven hundred points. Of course, he intentionally lowered his score line a little this ti; he didn’t want to cause too much trouble. Because he knew that securing the first place in the school might actually be the start of troubles.

The top scorer in every exam would always be mysteriously watched by others and had to speak at various occasions, even sharing their learning experiences. That was the uncomfortable part. Xiao Han didn’t like these kinds of things.

But during the college entrance exams, he definitely wouldn’t show any rcy. Not for anything else, but for the promise Li Hengzhong made to him, the bonus money was not important. What was important was his promise to get Mother Xiao a leadership position at the Sanitation Bureau. That was what Xiao Han cared about the most.

Xiao Han was very low-key; he would not readily inform his mother of his achievents unless he truly succeeded. So, he needed his mother to be secure and stable. For people of Mother Xiao’s age, what kind of job is stable and secure? Certainly, a civil servant or a job in a public institution. Only these types of jobs are the most stable and also offer a relatively good inco.

January 12th, 4:30 pm.

The bell for submitting the papers rang, and everyone stood up as if on cue, handing in their papers.

“How do you feel?” Chen Zihan stood up, smiling at Xiao Han.

“No problem!” Xiao Han shook his head, “The difficulty of the science comprehensive wasn’t big.”

“Really?” Chen Zihan looked at Xiao Han in surprise, “How much do you think you scored this ti?”

“I can’t say for sure!” Xiao Han smiled, “Now that winter vacation has started, do you have any plans?”

“What plans can I have, just revise my lessons.” Chen Zihan stared at Xiao Han, “I don’t even know if soone will ask out.”

As soon as Xiao Han heard this, he imdiately laughed, “I’m asking you out right now, will you give the chance?”

“Of course I will!” Chen Zihan nodded eagerly.

“Then…” Xiao Han racked his brain thinking of where to go.

“A new dessert shop has opened near my ho, how about… I’ll treat you?” Chen Zihan suggested with an excited smile. Chen Zihan’s smile was beautiful. When she smiled, her eyes looked like crescent moons, inlaid with two black gemstones, enchantingly soul-stirring. Her smile was magical, making it impossible to resist feeling happy with her.

“I’ll treat you,” Xiao Han insisted, smiling at Chen Zihan.

“Great, let’s go then,” Chen Zihan said with excitent, taking hold of Xiao Han’s hand and walking out.

Xiao Han was as passive as wood; he was never proactive in school, not even holding hands. Thus, Chen Zihan had to take the initiative. In the classroom, many of the boys were extrely envious. They watched as the two left, and their gazes followed their retreating figures.

“Ah, can you believe Xiao Han’s damn good luck?” a tall and handso boy complained, “How did Chen Zihan end up liking him?”

“Who knows!” People were packing up their desks – with end-of-term exams over, it was ti for the holidays. Classes would resu on the sixth day of the New Year, and exam results would also be published then.

“Xiao Han’s academic performance is so good now; it’s normal for Chen Zihan to be with him,” Yang Xiaoyan stood up, smiling, “And maybe you guys don’t know? What was the birthday gift Xiao Han gave to Chen Zihan this ti?”

“What was it?” everyone asked.

Jiang Xiaoliang had specifically made people keep quiet about the birthday gift from Xiao Han.
