📢 New Novel Launch!

The crowd dispersed like a tide, leaving only Wei Wei and the tall girl facing the cage, about ten ters away. Inside the cage, the old man in the red suit sat quietly, surrounded by thick chains. The girl began assembling firearms with swift movents, checking their performance, and loading bullets.

“Is this...?”Wei Wei was still puzzled, glancing at the girl: “Am I really the one?”The girl looked at him coldly and didn’t respond.“Little Wei,” Captain Ouyang said, approaching Wei Wei from behind. “Don’t feel pressured; this was arranged by Old Zhou himself.”“I’m not feeling pressured,” Wei Wei replied, squatting down to assemble guns with even greater speed than the girl.He glanced at the old man in the cage, unsure why he was chosen. But since he was chosen, he would certainly help out. Captain Ouyang watched, his expression growing more serious.“Also, don’t get too excited,” he whispered.“Of course,” Wei Wei said solemnly: “I should shoot with respect and kindness.”Captain Ouyang furrowed his brow, feeling that Wei Wei’s response was too quick. With their guns ready, Wei Wei and the girl stood about three ters apart, both aiming at the old man in the cage. The old man, initially seated, slowly stood up, holding the bars. He seed concerned that sitting would limit the coverage of the bullets.“Co on, kids,” the old man said with a smile. “Don’t be afraid!”Wei Wei had already positioned the gunstock on his shoulder, aiming at the old man. He clearly saw the smile on the old man’s face and the direct gaze, which slightly shook his heart. Originally, he hadn’t felt any respect; his response was just what he knew he should say in such a situation. He always knew how to say things that would make people feel friendly and likable, but deep down, he felt a bit excited and thrilled to be killing such a powerful War Demon. However, seeing the old man’s gentle eyes, he felt a strange sensation. Many had died by his hand, but he had never seen such eyes before.“Hmm?”At the sa mont, the girl seed to notice sothing and turned to smile at Wei Wei. Her smile was breathtakingly beautiful, causing many to feel the world spin around them. So people couldn’t help but glance between her and Little Lin, as if making a difficult choice.“Rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat…”The next mont, the girl suddenly fired ahead of Wei Wei, unleashing a barrage of bullets towards the cage. This was the first ti Wei Wei had been slower to shoot. He quickly pulled the trigger, feeling the gun recoil, the sll of gunpowder filling his nostrils, and his body tingling.A hail of bullets, filled with a killing intent, poured into the cage.“Pffft-pffft-pffft…”The old man’s body erupted in blood mist, his lean fra crashing against the other side of the cage, as if about to fall. But just then, a deafening roar shook everyone, causing dizziness. The roar wasn’t from his mouth; it was like the air itself was exploding. In everyone’s sight, the air around the cage distorted severely, making it hard to see inside.Only the old man’s body could be seen growing larger, like a monster. With a loud crash, it slamd into the cage, causing the thick steel bars to bulge outward, as if hit by a physical impact that almost reached everyone’s face. The crowd gasped in shock, retreating despite being far away. Only a few remained, including Lucky Sister, Uncle Gun, Little Lin, Zhu Zai, and Ye Feifei, who was hiding behind Zhu Zai. The others were pale and terrified. In that mont, Wei Wei felt the tangible impact and had the urge to step back. But he stood firm, continuing to fire. After exhausting his bullets, he swiftly picked up a shockwave gun and stepped forward, continuing to blast away. The sound of bullets ricocheting and splashing made the area around the cage sll of burnt steel. The cage was almost invisible, with only a distorted, monstrous shape visible through the twisted air, fiercely colliding with the cage’s sides. The massive iron chains were rattling, stretched to their limits, and nearly breaking loose.“Not good…”“Degeneration into a War monster is imminent…”“I knew it wouldn’t be so easy to kill; we should have brought a row of mortars…”Just as everyone was in a state of panic, Captain Ouyang gritted his teeth and suddenly charged forward. He jumped high into the air, landing heavily on the distorted cage.“Old friend, let help you…”He whispered, his hand reaching into the cage and pressing on the old man’s head. The roaring and colliding monster inside the cage seed to calm down slightly, reducing its force.Wei Wei and the girl exchanged a glance, both discarding their empty guns. The girl picked up a multi-barreled revolver, fully loaded with bullets, and aid at the cage. Her face remained calm, but a faint tear streaked down her cheek. She pulled the trigger, unleashing a hail of bullets.Wei Wei took a deep breath, grabbed another gun, reloaded, and continued firing. The bullets, with terrifying force, pierced the old man’s body, creating a mist of blood. Under Captain Ouyang’s restraint, the monster inside the cage was visibly trembling, as if using all its strength to contract its power. Gradually, the demon aura emanating from the old man began to fade, like a final, desperate effort.Wei Wei quickly discarded his empty gun, sensing the old man was about to die. The girl hadn’t finished firing yet, so Wei Wei didn’t need to shoot again. But unexpectedly, she stopped firing and turned to him.“Little Wei, continue!”Uncle Gun suddenly threw his shotgun to Wei Wei. Wei Wei caught it, knowing it was loaded with special bullets—a rare extravagance for Uncle Gun.“Are they letting us do this ourselves?”Wei Wei wondered but instinctively aid the shotgun at the cage, focusing on the monster, or what should have been the old man’s head. At that mont, the monster’s gaze turned towards him. Wei Wei felt sothing in that gaze, like a twisted, monstrous face smiling. With a flash of surprise, Wei Wei pulled the trigger. Two bullets shot out, one after the other, piercing the monster’s body. Its massive head jerked backward, slamming into the other side of the cage, finally losing all strength and life. It slid down the cage wall, coming to rest. The gunfire ceased, leaving only the pungent sll of gunpowder. This farewell to the old man felt like the essence of war to everyone present. Though it lasted only a few minutes, it seed like an eternity amidst the barrage of bullets. The tall figure inside the cage finally collapsed. Wei Wei and the girl stood beside the scattered bullet casings, which glinted yellow in the light, presenting a peculiar beauty. Inside the distorted cage, the old man lay quietly. Despite being riddled with bullets, his body remained intact, exuding an unusual power.Captain Ouyang jumped down from the cage and walked away. Lucky Sister, who had already moved to the switch installed on the building wall, nodded and pulled down the lever. The sound of machinery whirred from beneath, and a tal plate slid open, revealing a coffin. The old man’s body fell into it. Captain Ouyang watched as the steel plate sealed the coffin, then kicked the deford cage away. It rolled several ters, still spinning. He looked at the sealed coffin, took a deep breath, wiped away a tear, and removed the white flower from his chest, tossing it onto the coffin. Turning to the crowd, he said: “Let us observe a mont of silence.”The people around exchanged glances, their faces slowly recovering from the shock, though a shadow still lingered in their hearts. The old man was now in the coffin, sealed away. Yet, sohow, they could still see a tall, dark knight standing there. Finally, as the Scrap Iron City peacekeeping team mbers approached, each placing their white flowers on the coffin, the others gathered courage to draw near. They stood around the open pit, dropping their flowers into it, then stood in silence.Wei Wei packed the firearms and scattered bullet casings into a box and closed it. He turned to the girl, who was wiping away tears. She approached him, her face almost touching his nose. Wei Wei didn’t know what to say. Should he be polite? Or was this sothing he should do?Just as he was thinking about how to respond more politely, the tall girl suddenly hugged him, her cold cheek pressed against his neck. She whispered: “I hope the ntor didn’t trust the wrong person.”“...A citizen with a sense of justice!”Before Wei Wei could react, the girl turned and walked towards the building.“Ah, it was her…”Because of her words, Wei Wei thought of soone: the mysterious knight outside Scrap Iron City, riding a flesh motorcycle under the dim moonlight, wearing a frog-mouth helt.“What did she an by that? And why didn’t she need to fill in the grave herself?”Wei Wei felt a sense of wonder but didn’t stop her. He walked forward, and people parted before him, perhaps because of the lingering sll of gunpowder on him.Wei Wei dropped his white flower onto the coffin, took a deep breath, and bowed sincerely to the old man inside.“How enviable…”For so reason, a strong sense of admiration rose in his heart. Previously, he couldn’t understand others when they talked about dreams and love. But now, he seed to understand. Dreams, perhaps, were like the old man’s—dying with dignity and elegance amidst the shocking sound of bullets. He wanted that too..
