Hu Chen looked at Gu Qianxue for several seconds and with so hesitation asked in a very low voice, "Elder brother Xie.... You and them... Are you all really human?"
Hu Chen’s question took Xie Yao, Gu Qianxue, Shen Xinya, and Yao i completely unawares. Regardless of the age of each of them and regardless of how long it had been since they had known Hu Chen, none of the four girls knew how to react to a question that in most cases would be taken as a joke or even as a sign of ntal problems.
However, none of the four girls ntioned above were really normal. In fact, the most normal of them, Xie Yao, was the first to beco the lover of the person to whom the question of Hu Chen was directed. Therefore, while the question "are you all really human?" might be weird to any other mber of this world, it was not weird to them.
"Why do you ask that?" Xie Feng did not answer Hu Chen’s question right away and instead surprised him with another question.
In fact, Xie Feng was the only one among those present who was not even a bit surprised before the peculiar question of his friend. After all, there were several factors to consider that were lately out of the ordinary and surrounded Xie Feng and the girls close to him in so way or another.
Hu Chen took a deep breath and after a mont of silence looked faintly at Gu Qianxue as he slowly said, "Honestly, I’ve been pondering this question for a few weeks now but I just dismissed it.... I an, co on man, we’ve known each other for years. Besides, if you’re not human then what are you? An alien with the goal of world domination? If that were the case then aliens must have sothing wrong with their heads for wanting to live a college life."
Xie Feng couldn’t help but chuckle as he heard Hu Chen’s words and nodded as the image of a certain young girl who loved to wear white clothes flashed through his mind, "Indeed. Maybe aliens look similar to us and they probably even like to secretly sneak into people’s house to prevent a man and a woman from fully concretizing their relationship."
"Uh?" Hu Chen looked at Xie Feng dumbfounded and his face alone practically asked what on earth he was talking about.
"Ah, it’s nothing. Ignore ."
Xie Feng had no way of telling Hu Chen about the fact that in his house a certain girl really was an alien who ca from so distant and mysterious world where people could destroy stars with a punch from long distances. In fact, it was questionable whether his sanity would not be judged if he did so.
"Whatever then..." Hu Chen looked at him skeptically before pushing the matter to the back of his head and continuing where he had left off before: "Even though it was just a stupid question before that happened to pop into my head after so strange things started happening with no real explanation such as the still aningless death of that brat surnad Nangong, it just so happens that not long after you left toward Beijing several bright flashes were seen heading south. Coincidence or not, the next day it was announced that mankind mysteriously possessed weaponry capable of modifying the weather practically at will.... It just seems too strange to ."
"However, I still justified all those coincidences in so way that I honestly can’t even rember." Hu Chen took a deep breath before pointing at Gu Qianxue with his gaze and quietly saying, "But, she- Sister-in-law Qianxue suddenly got cured of a condition that had been with her since birth, her body suddenly beca much more charming than before-"
"Hey, what are you doing looking at my wife’s body?"
Xie Feng suddenly looked at Hu Chen and cut off his words in a cold voice.
Hu Chen froze but before he could feel fear or anything else Xie Feng smiled and said in a joking tone, "Don’t worry, I’m just kidding with you. At the end of the day, it’s impossible not to look at soone else’s body."
"You..." Hu Chen patted his chest several tis as he looked at Xie Feng at a loss for words.
"Anyway." He continued. "Aside from sister-in-law Qianxue’s mysterious recovery, it turns out that Goddess Shen’s condition was also completely cured just a few months after she t you and you accompanied her.... Elder brother Xie, are you really human?"
Finally understanding the reason why Hu Chen had raised that strange question and realizing that indeed his analysis was reasonable, Xie Yao and the other girls exchanged glances before looking at Xie Feng with calm expressions waiting for his response.
"I see." Xie Feng nodded as he looked at Hu Chen. "To anyone else who didn’t know everything you ntioned before would probably stay just a strange mystery. But for you who know well and know that everything sohow seems to be connected to , it’s natural for you to have such doubts."
After a mont of silence, Xie Feng smiled slightly and said in a clear voice, "Honestly, I have also pondered whether I am human or not several tis in the past. Therefore, I have had many tests of all kinds and even visited different world-renowned hospitals. But each and every one of them proved that I am in fact flesh and blood human just like you and any other normal person."
"This..." Hu Chen looked at him a bit not knowing what to say. He bit his tongue in search of words before spitting out in a stupefied voice, "What is that supposed to an?"
From Xie Feng’s words, Hu Chen understood that at least for a certain ti he also had doubts regarding his race. So, didn’t this an that Xie Feng had his reasons for doubting whether he was human or not? Hu Chen realized that his friend and good brother was indeed not normal at all.
"Hu Chen, how about at nightfall you co to my place? We can all have dinner together there." Xie Feng suddenly proposed, taking everyone by surprise. "Oh, you should also tell Yue Kai and Xiao Luo. I’ll tell you more about then."
"This... I understand. All right." Hu Chen nodded still sowhat dazed before pointing behind him and saying quietly, "Then.... I’ll be retiring for now..."
"All right." Xie Feng nodded with a smile.
"Then... Sisters-in-law, younger sister Yao i, I’m leaving." Hu Chen still did not seem to co to his senses and began to walk away. However, he had barely walked maybe five ters when he stopped dead in his tracks and turned around to return in his footsteps.
"Elder brother Xie..."
"Yes?" Xie Feng looked at him with an amused smile.
"I don’t know where your house is." Hu Chen said in a serious voice, causing Xie Feng and the girls to burst out laughing.
...
After Hu Chen left, Xie Feng and the others started to return to the Golden Emperor Complex.
"Big Brother Xie, will you really tell Hu Chen and the other two about the ability users?" Xie Yao asked in a gentle voice.
"You can’t do that."
Yao i, who had been silent all this ti, stepped in. Her voice was really beautiful and pleasant to listen to, similar to a baby’s voice which created a powerful contrast when compared to her body.
"Why?" Xie Feng asked with a faint smile on his face.
"If normal people learn about ability users their lives will never be the sa again." Yao i warned in a low voice. "A frog can be happy because it believes that the sky is as small as the hole it lives in, but if that frog is pulled out of that hole its happiness can turn into desolation as it realizes how insignificant it had been all this ti."
Xie Feng gave her a sidelong glance and said a bit wordlessly, "Miss Yao, your example is really masterful but please don’t use it in front of other people. I doubt that others will like being called frogs."
"...Okay."
Surprisingly, Yao i nodded without arguing and it seed that in her brain she was making so kind of ntal note. She had learned a lot of good things during this ti thanks to Xie Feng and the other girls so Yao i was really taking their words to heart.
"Good girl." Xie Feng couldn’t help but reach out his palm and pat her head a couple of tis.
Yao i simply looked at him silently and even though she didn’t react she didn’t pull away his hand either and let him do whatever he wanted, sothing that could be translated as at least she didn’t feel discomfort from what was happening. Although it was doubtful that if it wasn’t Xie Feng who was touching her hair and it was soone else maybe Yao i could accidentally turn that soone into a pile of ashes.
The eyes of Xie Feng flashed with intricate light as he t Yao i’s honey-colored eyes. He couldn’t help but have the conversation he had with Mu Wuying recently resurface from his mories and when he looked at the beautiful young woman in front of him he wondered if she was really his younger sister from whom he had been separated years ago.
Should he ask Yao i to accompany him for a DNA test? Such a question was naturally born in Xie Feng’s heart to the point where it almost took root in an instant.
