Kain Locke

I woke up to an empty bed.

The warmth from last night was gone, replaced by the cool morning air. Kael was nowhere to be seen. For a mont, I just stared at the ceiling, my mind sluggish as I tried to push away the drowsiness.

I sat up, running a hand through my hair before my eyes landed on the chair across the room.

My shirt and trousers were neatly folded on it, along with a new pair of boxers.

I frowned slightly, stepping out of bed and walking toward them. He must’ve washed and dried it while I was busy sleeping. He was the only one who could’ve. But is that okay?

I picked up the clothes, feeling the crisp fabric between my fingers before quickly changing out of the nightwear. The fresh clothes felt more like myself, more familiar.

Once I was done, I folded the nightwear, stuffing it into a nylon bag so I could wash them when I got back to my room. My movents were automatic, my mind still lingering on last night. The warmth of his body, the way he held like I wasn’t sothing fragile but sothing real.

I exhaled sharply, shaking my head. No use thinking about it.

Grabbing the bag, I headed for the door.

The mont I stepped out and let it swing shut behind , I gripped the handle and pulled at it to be sure it was actually locked from outside and it was, that was the only ti that I turned left.

I climbed down the stairs quickly after that, my steps light but urgent. It didn’t take long to reach my floor, but the mont I stepped into the hallway, I felt eyes on .

People turned as I walked past, their gazes heavy, unreadable as so of them whispered. Others just stared. But it has always been like that which makes wonder whether I managed to hide my eyes from being recognized yesterday... Or were they staring because they knew that it was ?

Of course. They all saw Kael carrying yesterday.

A rush of embarrassnt burned up my neck. I clenched my jaw and picked up my pace, pretending not to notice.

They didn’t like before. Now, they must hate even more, all thanks to him given that he was their nesis.

I got back to my room soon after and shut the door behind , letting out a breath. But the mont I turned around, I nearly jumped.

Sam was sitting on his bed, casually munching on so snacks like he had all the ti in the world.

Now I was more than embarrassed, rembering exactly what Sam had walked in on yesterday.

"Hi... Morning..." I greeted, clearing my throat and turned away, grabbing the folded nightwear from the nylon bag to put it away so I can have sothing to focus on. But as soon as I threw it on the bed Sam’s voice cut through the silence.

"I never knew you were... umm..." He dragged out the words, his tone way too amused. "You know, that close to a Draeven."

I froze for half a second before slowly turning my head to him with an awkward smile.

Sam just smirked, his eyes glinting with pure mischief. "What? I an, I get it now. I just never could’ve thought he... Anyways, I think it makes sense."

I felt heat creeping up my neck. "It’s not like that."

"Sure." He leaned back against his pillows, popping another snack into his mouth. "Not like that,"

I wanted to bury myself six feet under. "I—"

"Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone." He held up his fingers in a peace sign, grinning. "Your secret’s safe with ."

I groaned, dragging a hand down my face. "Alright. Thanks." Secret my ass as if the whole base hasn’t seen for themselves yesterday.

Sam just wiggled his brows as I sat on my bed, running a hand through my hair, still feeling the weight of last night’s events. My body ached in places I didn’t expect, and the lingering warmth where Kael had touched made my skin tingle if I thought about it too much.

I sighed and shook my head, glancing around the room. My eyes landed on my bag near the bed, It looked... off. The way it sat, slightly shifted, like soone had moved it.

I frowned but brushed it off. Maybe it got nudged when I was struggling with Kael yesterday, of course that would be the case, Yeah, that made sense.

I felt a pressure in my lower stomach reminding I needed to use the bathroom. I got up, stretched my sore limbs, and made my way inside.

While I was relieving myself, a thought flashed through my mind, Like I could still feel his fingers on .

I quickly flush the toilet and made for the sink to splash so water on my face, even got so on my hair. However,

My mind couldn’t help but wonder back to what had happened in his room when my lust and desires were completely heightened, how I had desperately sought to caress myself to release. But Kael had pried my hand away, teased to his satisfaction until I begged and eventually stroked to completion

I choked, my face heating up at the thought. My grip on the sink tightened as I tried to brush it off my mind but more ca, my mind betrayed , replaying the way his lips had skimd my skin, the heat of his breath against my ear, the way his voice had dipped even when he said he liked .

My reflection stared back at , wide-eyed and red-faced that I had to slap my own cheeks, once, then twice. The sting helped, but not enough.

"Get a grip, Kain, he’s only ssing with you... that’s what they do."

Just because he said he liked ... just because he touched like that... didn’t an he was being sincere. But... What about that look on his face?

The way his voice wavered, the way his grip tightened around , like he didn’t want to let go... It had felt real. Too real.

Was I overthinking it?

I groaned and ran a hand through my damp hair. There was no point in dwelling on it now.

When I stepped out, Sam was already up and grabbing his jacket. He shot a look, stuffing the last bit of his snack into his mouth.

"I’m heading out for breakfast. Are you coming?"

I hesitated for a mont before answering, "Nah, you go ahead. I’ll join you in a bit."

He shrugged. "Suit yourself."

The door clicked shut behind him as he went out, and I finally let out a breath.

I dragged my bag closer back to the bed and unzipped it, reaching for my communicator. But the mont I pulled my clothes apart, my movents froze.

Sothing was wrong.

I always placed my communicator on top for easy access, but now it was buried under a pile of clothes. Even my spare clothes weren’t the way I left them, folded too neatly or shifted slightly out of place.

My stomach twisted at the obvious theory, soone was in this room.

My eyes darted around before my gaze flickered to Sam’s bed. He’d been here when I ca in, acting normal. Could it have been him?

No... That didn’t make sense because why would he do that? After all, since we turned out to be roommates, he had been minding his own business until we started speaking.

But if it isn’t him, then who?

And more importantly, what were they looking for? Or could it have sothing to do with the chip? But why would soone be looking for sothing that has already been taken by God knows who?

I was still lost in thought when my communicator screen lit up and a ssage ca in.
