Kain

I walked into the train station, Brian was fast asleep in my arms. Even though the world outside was chaotic, but, with him, I could almost forget about everything that was chasing .

The usual noise of the station filled the air, but then the loudspeaker cut through, the usual female sounds you can hear in every train station in city C.

[Train 42, now arriving at Platform 3. Please stand clear of the platform edge.] It says on repeat.

I moved quickly through the crowd, to catch the train, fortunately my luck wasn't so bad today because I reached the train before it took off, the doors slid open with a soft hiss and I stepped inside, the cool air brushing against my skin, and for a second, I felt a flicker of relief.

I found an empty seat and sat down, making sure Brian was comfortable in my arms, his little head resting against my chest as I pressed him closer.

[Please be aware that this train is about to get in motion. We advise all passengers to remain seated.]

The train jerked forward, and the steady hum of the engine under my feet reminded that I was on my way. For now, everything felt fine.

But just when I was starting to relax, I heard it.

A voice, so smoothly low, and way too familiar that my shoulders went stiff.

"What a lovely son you have there."

My heart dropped. I didn't need to look. I didn't want to, but my eyes were already moving, like they had a mind of their own.

And when they finally t him, there he was. Kael Draeven, sitting across from like he had all the ti in the world with that ever cold smirk playing on his lips, his dark hair falling leisurely on his forehead, there's no way I wouldn't rember him, even though he'd grew more regal and taller than the last ti I saw him, but I still rember him like it was just yesterday, after all you don't forget the face of the man who haunt your dreams.

He didn't even look surprised to see . Like this was exactly what he expected.

[Next stop: Riverside station, passengers should be ready to get off in the next ten minutes.]

The train's voice ca through again, but I barely registered it because my full focus was locked on Kael, the tension between us thickening into sothing suffocation would best describe at that mont, as I could barely keep my composure.

I wasn't going anywhere. Not while he was watching like that.

"That finally got your attention." He said with a wide smile plastering on his lips in a way that it took everything in to not bolted out the window, a suicidal thought? Maybe I would've done exactly that if I didn't have a boy in my arms.

"Now I couldn't help getting curious about what got you all so deep in thought anyway?" He mused, smacking his lips.

"Umm sir... I have no idea you're talking to ." I stuttered, I've always been brave, bold, but It was among the things I lost that night.

"That's not a problem though." He crossed his legs, then slowly I felt an arm slide over the seat I sat on and went all the way to touch the trimd lock of my hair,

"Boundaries sir." I reminded, mustering up so courage knowing fully well everything hangs on my reaction to this situation, and a slip that I'm allowing right now might ruin everything, including my newly rebuilt life, and I'm not just about to allow that to happen, he doesn't rember , I've made sure of that, however,

"It used to be a rare silver. Long even." he smiled so casually, letting it slip out of his fingers then he leaned back into his seat, shutting his eyes.

I had almost thought it was over when his voice ca again, though his eyes remained closed, "How many years has it been anyway, three? Two? Five? I don't quite rember. However, I can see you're not as idle as I'd thought you'd be, I an raising a boy is one hell of a job isn't it? Now I'm curious, tell , is he your son?"

My grip tightened so hard against Brian, so hard I could crush him as my heartbeat picked up, racing so fast like it would burst out of my chest and escape.

"I will take your silence as a yes then." His lips curled up slightly, as he took it upon himself to answer before I could give him one.

"I have... I have no idea of.. w-what you're saying sir, I don't even know you." I stamred, my voice trembling as though I was a lamb spread out on a sacrificial alter as my hands quivered uncontrollably.

"Very well, I should make it clear then." He snapped his eyes open, his leg slipping off the one he crossed it on as his dark eyes locked on the fake black contact lenses I wore like he could read into my soul, "I'm looking for soone, Yeah, An Oga."

"H-how is that a-any of m-my concern?"

"Coincidentally we t here on this train, you're holding a boy while I'm also in search of an Oga who escaped with my seeding, has my son without my knowledge, " He paused, his eyes hardening, "And even raised him. So tell , isn't it right I want to look for him? And since the boy belonged to it's only right I take back what's mine isn't it? Co to think of it, he should be about the sa age as the boy in your arms."

I shifted in my seat, my heart racing, but I kept my voice steady, refusing to give anything away. "I'm not sure what you're talking about, sir. I don't know anything about your Oga, or whatever it is you're looking for so can you please stop acting all creepy."

I swallowed hard. He wasn't giving up, not that easily, but I couldn't let him know that the son he was searching for might just be the very one I was holding in my arms.

I let out a quiet breath and t his gaze. "I'm just a guy trying to live a quiet life with my son and my family. So I don't know anything about anyone else's business. I'll appreciate you not saying anything else sir. Thank you." I breathed hoping he wouldn't probe any further, never have I felt a ride was too long, all I want was to be out of this train as soon as I could, given that, the more I linger around, the more likely to be found out by him, and that'll be the last thing I want in my now hanging in line peaceful life that was already dangling over a furnace.

"Maybe you're right," he said with a confident smirk, leaning back in his seat again, though his attention was still locked on . "I could be mistaken. But one thing I can never be wrong about was the fact that the Oga who I was looking for was sitting beside right now, while holding my baby in his arms. Mister, or would you rather I call you Kain? Kain Locke."

I flinched and my eyes go wide. My legs quivered uncontrollably, he recognizes ? Despite all the changes?

I hadn't imagined I'd be eting him so soon, nor did I ever wish for the manifestation of exactly what's happening right here, right now, it was so unwanted that i want to fled as soon as i could.

His eyes was very much still locked on with that annoying smile, mirroring his father's sitting on his lips, as though making fun of my state. But the fire in his eyes made know he wouldn't let go.

How does it co to this? How do I co face to face with that sa man I dreaded as much as I hated him. And even carried his baby?

Well, let's revisit so old mories.

Flashback

It was just like every other afternoon Caspian sent us to retrieve drugs for him from another gang.

Arriving at the location, I placed my helt on the bike, wore my gloves before I slung the backpack across my chest and snapped the buckle, giving it a quick tug to make sure it was secure.

The Glock in my hand clicked as I loaded it, then tucked it into my waistband, the weight grounding against my hip, even though my gut was telling tonight wasn't going to end clean. But who am I kidding really? Every other night with Caspian was like this.

"Alright, so what's the plan?" Bella's voice ca from behind , casual as if we weren't about to walk into a lion's den.

I shot her a look over my shoulder. "Seriously?"

She shrugged, leaning against the bike like we had all the ti in the world. "What? You're the one dragging into this. I figure you've got it all figured out, It's not like you don't know how this works. Draeven's no picnic. You're the only one who tolerates him anyway."

I ground my teeth considering the fact that Bella was the type to poke the bear just to see if it'd bite "Fine," I muttered, turning back to my gear. "You go in as bait. I got the package. We don't die. We don't lose the package. Or Caspian himself will put a bullet in our skulls finishing the job. So there. That's the plan. Now shut up and let's move."

"Thrilled," she said with a smirk. Just when I thought she would be moving she suddenly crossed her arms, watching like she was amused by the whole thing. "You know, you're really starting to sound like Caspian's stoned face son."

The muscles in my jaw tightened. "You wouldn't dare."

"Of course I would, couldn't deny he's quite the charr anyway with those sexy feverishly piercing eyes...also... His hand's.. definitely the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

"Wait until those hands strangle the living out of you." It's no secret that if Caspian is a beast, then his son is a devil. I wouldn't expect less from him anyway, besides blood is thicker than water they say.

She sighed dreamily, "I will die anyti if it was in his arms. And don't be so outrightly an about it. He's stone faced... Yeah, a machine without any emotions? Yes, but he's so hot i would bend for him anyti."

"Are we doing this really?" I asked, clearly not in the mood to hear another of her fantasies with another draeven.

"Of course yes." She grins.

I turned toward her, ready to snap, when I heard a faint sound of people discussing.

I raised a finger to my lips, silencing her with a sharp glare. "Seems like it's not only Caspian who has his eyes on this package." I whispered.
