It was very different from what Lloyd had imagined.
Normally, systems tended to have a more computerized design.
Instead, before him shone a much more ostentatious piece.
Its shape was that of an oval mirror, ornanted with golden motifs around it.
Lloyd saw himself reflected in a surface that looked like polished steel. However, this image began to blur to display information.
Na: Lloyd Kaitos
Age: 8 years old
Abilities:
[Mirror of Vainglory]
[Chaos Record]
The young man was amazed, though at the sa ti he couldn’t help but feel sowhat disappointed; there was barely any information about him.
Still, he didn’t lose hope. With so difficulty, the boy stretched his finger until he reached the mirror, which was cold to the touch.
Lloyd was surprised to see he could touch it, but that wasn’t the only thing that caught his attention; apparently his intuition was correct, he could expand the information about his abilities.
[Mirror of Vainglory]
Rank: Oga
"Displays the majestic reflection of its bearer, revealing information about them. The quantity and quality of information is intrinsically linked to its rank."
The boy nodded; now he understood why the displayed information was so poor.
[Chaos Record]
Rank: ***
"The crystallization of desire; forces its bearer to embody the archetype of «Demon King». Allows the user to access a thod of «transcendent ascension» through the most familiar and comfortable thod possible."
"Chaos Record allows access to a series of advantages by exchanging «V.P» or villain points. A unit that corresponds to the evil demonstrated by its bearer and the chaos they generate."
"The system offers benefits when acts aligned with the designated archetype are committed; however, it also punishes actions that fall outside that frawork."
[Paths of Demonic Transcendence]
"They are wells of power that allow the bearer to increase their V.P reserve."
First path of demonic transcendence:
Well of Greed: Your greed becos your source of power. This path offers its user the ability to obtain V.P through missions offered by Chaos Record. It is the default path of Chaos Breaker, and the initial way to obtain V.P. This well of power can offer juicy rewards or lethal punishnts.
Second path of demonic transcendence: {Locked • 0/1500 V.P}
[Demonic Powers:]
"They are the great powers that Chaos Record allows access to."
Mirror of Vainglory: Rank Oga {0/1200 V.P}
Gluttonous Stomach: {Locked • 0/350 V.P}
Eye of Envy: {Locked • 0/650 V.P}
Constellation of Sloth: {Locked • 2,500 V.P}
V.P: 350
Lloyd spent a good while reading and absorbing all of that. While the Mirror of Vainglory’s information was poor, Chaos Record was much more detailed. Though, the young man also understood it was probably because the ability itself had many more effects.
The reflection was long; after all, it was important to absorb everything. Lloyd ca to several conclusions, but for now, what bothered him most was the possible punishnt.
Apparently, the ability punished or penalized Lloyd if he stepped outside that "archetype."
Still, Lloyd had no idea what it ant, whether simply doing sothing good would penalize him, or sothing simpler could get him in trouble.
At first he wouldn’t have worried, but the first mission already threatened death.
If the penalties were equally severe, Lloyd would be in serious trouble.
No, the mission had a purpose. Besides, the system seems to want alive.
Maybe the reason the penalty was death was because it was likely he’d get it right.
It was a hope Lloyd would believe in, since the idea of dying for helping an old woman carry sothing, or giving candy to a child, seed too excessive.
’Alright, but first I need to fix this body of mine. I’m screwed, this body is disgusting.’
It was a hard fact for Lloyd to accept. He, soone who had been working so hard to sculpt an athletic body, was now trapped in the body of a weak and sickly child. He practically had one foot in the grave.
While the feeling of being in that body was unpleasant, Lloyd couldn’t help but feel empathy for the original owner of this body.
His mories were sowhat fuzzy, but captured the essentials: his mother’s death at birth, his father’s absence his entire life.
Lloyd grew up with the mansion staff as his only family, who, due to their work, had to maintain a professional attitude toward him.
But the worst thing Lloyd faced was his illness.
Lloyd himself didn’t understand it very well, but from what he heard from doctors, he was unable to create magical power, which made him vulnerable to all kinds of conditions and diseases.
Lloyd’s life was torturous.
He never left the walls of the mansion, and the older he got, the worse his condition beca, making it so he couldn’t even get out of bed.
’Wait... Sothing doesn’t add up. If Lloyd was so sick, how did I end up in the river?’
More and more questions kept piling up for Lloyd, but he wasn’t getting many answers.
It was then, in the middle of his internal conversation, that sothing burst into the room, pulling him from his thoughts.
Lloyd saw a figure enter.
From her appearance he could deduce it was a woman.
She didn’t seem to pay him any attention, simply headed toward the window and drew the curtains.
Sunlight shone through, illuminating the entire room.
Lloyd’s eyes squinted before adapting to the daylight.
Then, the young woman turned around.
She was a young woman, probably in her twenties.
She wore the typical maid’s dress, and had her hair pulled back in a bun.
He could barely observe her much, since as soon as she noticed Lloyd was awake, she went straight to him.
"Thank Mara! The young master is awake!" the maid approached and then leaned forward.
Her voice seed enthusiastic, but she still acted professional.
The boy found the voice familiar; not just from his mories, it was the voice he’d heard when he was about to die of hypothermia, he was sure of it.
"Thank you," the young man said.
After all, he was before his "savior."
Still, the boy was surprised, he could barely emit a whisper.
His voice was hoarse, he could barely speak properly.
"You mustn’t thank , young master, I’m the one who’s glad you’re in one piece," the maid affird, bowing again. "Oh, by Mara, you must be starving, I’ll bring you sothing to eat right away."
After saying those words, the woman left the room at a brisk pace.
Lloyd could tell she was quite energetic, sothing he could envy right now.
He was completely lacking in energy.
Still, that interaction confird sothing for him: he was now soone else, he was Lloyd Kaitos.
Reflecting on how crazy that fact was wouldn’t help much, so he’d just accept it for now.
He was curious and had many questions, but he was too weak to even walk, so he’d have to get in shape first.
If he really wanted to survive from now on, he first had to start with the basics, so his goal for now should be to have good nutrition.
*Cough, cough*
Suddenly, a rather violent cough attacked him.
It wasn’t a passing cough, he felt his throat burning and his diaphragm aching from the effort of coughing.
