Dawn broke through with a golden light streaming through the area. Reinhard stood at the village edge watching smoke rise from cooking fires. The settlent had grown overnight, new structures appearing through sustained effort.
He headed northeast with Joseph and Janus. Their search would penetrate the northern area, hoping to find more people and not their bodies.
The morning air was crisp, carrying scents of pine and earth rather than decay.
Two hours in, they found a group of six. Adults clustered in a natural cave formation, having fled there when the tide approached. The cave’s narrow entrance had protected them, corruption flowing past without penetrating the stone shelter.
A woman erged first, shielding eyes against the sunlight. Her clothes were dirt-stained, face gaunt from days without proper food. "Is it... is it really over?"
Joseph smiled warmly. "Completely over. We’re taking everyone to a new settlent."
The relief was instantaneous.
She collapsed to her knees, hands covering her face as sobs wracked her fra. Others erged, expressions showing similar overwhelming emotion. One man laughed while crying, sound mixing joy and disbelief in equal asure.
Janus distributed water from the canteen. "Take your ti. We’re not in a rush."
They rested for thirty minutes before beginning their journey back. The rescued group moved slowly, muscles stiff from days of immobility, but spirits lifted with each step toward safety.

Marie and Amiya searched the western area. Their path followed a newly ford stream, the water flowing clear and cold, supporting life returning to land.
They discovered Seekers first; it was four warriors maintaining a defensive periter around a civilian group of eight who were holding their stomachs. The Seekers had organized rotation, ensuring soone always watched for threats that no longer existed.
"Ancestor sent you?" The lead Seeker asked, recognizing Amiya from previous encounters.
"We’re gathering everyone," Amiya confird. "We should go, there is plenty of food for them."
The Seekers exchanged glances. Relief showed, but also sothing else, uncertainty about purpose now that the eternal mission had concluded.
One voiced concern others clearly shared. "What do we... Do now that the Dark Silence is over? When there’s nothing left to fight?"
Marie’s response was imdiate. "You protect what’s being built instead of fighting what threatens it. The work doesn’t end, it simply evolves and becos sothing new, but you’re all still protecting Eastern Hesod."
The simple reframing seed to settle sothing. Shoulders straightened, expressions shifting from lost to determined.
They organized the civilian group efficiently, falling naturally into protective formation for the journey back.
...
Brunhilde and Vlad ventured south. Their search covered terrain where tide influence had been strongest, areas requiring the most ti for natural recovery.
They found Luminous Knights supporting the injured Precursor family. Three Knights had maintained position for days, using healing abilities to stabilize a man with a broken leg, a woman with severe burns from pre-transformation tide exposure, and two elders were traumatized but physically unhard.
The Knights showed exhaustion but maintained professional deanor. "We couldn’t move them safely." One explained. "Had to wait for rescue rather than risk worsening injuries."
Brunhilde knelt beside the injured man, assessing damage with an experienced eye. "You’ll need proper dical attention at the settlent... But I can help with this."
She wrote letters in the air before they entered them, leading to their wounds being nded and healed. Then she created a magical stretcher, golden words forming a platform that floated at waist height. The injured were transferred carefully, the Knights maintaining healing contact throughout the journey.
...
The searches expanded outward.
Teams ventured further, covering more ground and returning with more survivors, numbers ranging from individuals to groups of fifteen.
Reinhard found an elderly couple living in a treehouse they’d constructed decades ago. The structure had survived the crimson-black tide through a combination of luck and strategic positioning.
They’d watched transformation occur from elevated vantage, witnessed corruption becoming healing waters.
"We knew soone would co eventually." The old man said, grinning despite missing teeth. "The young always manage sohow."
His wife added. "Though you took your sweet ti about it!"
Their good humor was infectious.
Reinhard laughed genuinely while helping them descend, ladder rungs worn smooth from years of use.
...
Marie’s group discovered mixed survivors. Seekers, Precursors, and two Luminous Knights who’d banded together during the crisis.
They’d established an efficient camp, combining Seeker organizational skills, Precursor practical knowledge, and Knight healing capabilities.
The integration suggested future opportunities.
"We worked well together." A Seeker observed. "Perhaps that can continue?"
A Precursor nodded in agreent. "Sure, it would be eventful."
...
anwhile, the village expanded rapidly. Each group of rescued survivors swelled the population, adding hands to the reconstruction effort.
White portals opened multiple tis daily. The eagle arrived with supplies such as lumber, nails, rope, canvas, food, and dical equipnt. The Information Institution’s support was comprehensive, anticipating needs before they were voiced. Brunhilde took care of healing and tending to the wounds of every new person who was brought back.
Then soon the structures multiplied.
Initial shelters beca proper buildings while rough paths transford into organized streets. The central bonfire area evolved into a town square with a permanent fire pit surrounded by stone seating.
Precursors led construction, centuries of maintenance translating into building expertise. They directed placent, ensured structural integrity, and taught others proper technique. Seekers contributed strength. They moved heavy materials, cleared land for expansion, and established a defensive periter despite reduced threat.
Luminous Knights provided specialized support. They used Beast Spirit abilities to aid construction, manipulating elents for precise work, creating temporary barriers for testing, and illuminating night work.
Children and teenagers began returning. Evacuated groups ca back under escort, reuniting with parents who’d waited in desperate hope. The reunions were emotional with tears, embraces, words tumbling over each other in a rush to confirm safety.
The village gained life beyond re survival, and laughter echoed between buildings. Children played in the streets without fear. Conversations filled the air with sound, suggesting normalcy returning.
...
On the evening of the fifth day, the entire population gathered in the town square. Over a thousand people assembled, which was every survivor found, every worker who’d contributed, and every child returned.
The settlent was real now, but it lacked an official identity.
"We need a na." Soone called out, leading to many nodding, and agreent rippled through the crowd.
Suggestions ca imdiately, voices overlapping.
"New Helios!"
"Seeker’s Rest!"
"Freedom Town!"
Each proposal t with reactions ranging from enthusiasm to vocal disagreent. Argunts sparked, debates intensified, such as how the na should honor the past, while others emphasized the future.
None achieved consensus.
Marie tilted her head before she shouted. "How about Pioneer Village?"
The crowd paused, and conversations halted mid-sentence. The na hung in the air, being tested ntally by hundreds simultaneously.
One person voiced a question forming in many minds. "Pioneer?"
Marie nodded with a grin appearing. "It represents Eastern Hesod’s new start on a future without the Dark Silence. And the village, being the first of many, trails a path with each other."
The silence stretched as the words registered.
Everyone began glancing at each other, and then they began muttering to each other, and slowly discussing the na.
"Pioneer Village..." Soone repeated slowly, testing syllables. "It does sound better than even most of the old nas we had."
"And it does have a good aning behind it."
Agreent spread with voices rising to support the na. So even pointed out that it acknowledged the past while pointing toward the future, honoring their journey and pointing to their future.
"Pioneer Village!" Soone shouted enthusiastically.
Others joined, volu increasing with each repetition. The na beca a chant, affirmation, declaration of identity chosen collectively rather than imposed.
"Pioneer Village!"
"Pioneer Village!"
The roar was unanimous.
Over a thousand people’s voices raised in triumph, claiming identity for a new beginning built on the ashes of an old nightmare.
Then cheers erupted with people embracing each other, laughing, and so cried with joy at sothing so simple as naming their ho. The celebration was spontaneous, pure, carrying the weight of three centuries of waiting, and finally concluded.
Reinhard stood at the crowd’s edge, a faint smile playing across features. His expression mixed amusent with satisfaction before he caught Marie’s eyes across the square, and both of them bead at each other.
He realized she’d given them more than a na, but a reminder that they were forging a new path rather than recreating old ones.
Pioneer Village will be the first of many for the new Hesod.
