Arthur let out a small breath and waved it off.
"...That makes five."
There was no need to dwell on it. The feeling sat quietly in his chest, steady and certain.
It wasn’t excitent.
Not exactly.
More like... things falling into place.
His attention moved forward again. As his eyes shifted across the training hall out of habit, checking on his next target.
Ryn.
His corner of the hall felt different. Quieter, but heavier. Not because nothing was happening, but because everything there carried weight.
Arthur slowed slightly as he approached.
Ryn stood alone, shoulders tense, mana shifting around him in uneven waves. It wasn’t wild, but it wasn’t controlled either.
Close.
Very close.
Arthur could see it clearly.
"...Yeah. He’s stuck right at the edge."
Ryn paused when he noticed him.
Not fully stopping, just enough to acknowledge.
"...You again."
Arthur raised a brow.
"That’s how you greet soone that ca to check on you?"
Ryn exhaled lightly, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"You don’t co to ’check’ on people. You co when sothing’s up."
Arthur smiled a little.
"...Fair."
He stepped closer, hands in his pockets this ti, more relaxed than before.
"I ca to see if you’re still alive."
Ryn gave him a look.
"Barely."
That answer ca too fast to be a joke.
Arthur caught it.
"...That bad?"
Ryn didn’t answer imdiately. He glanced back at the training spot, then at his own hands.
"I can feel it."
Arthur stayed quiet.
"It’s there," Ryn continued, voice lower now. "The control. The flow. I know what I’m supposed to do."
He clenched his fist slightly.
"But it’s not... locking in."
Arthur nodded slowly.
"...Like you understand it, but your body hasn’t caught up."
Ryn looked at him again.
"Exactly."
There was frustration there. Not loud, not explosive. Just tight and controlled.
The kind that built up over ti.
Arthur leaned slightly against the wall beside him.
"You’ve been at it since morning?"
Ryn gave a short nod.
"Didn’t stop."
"Of course you didn’t."
Arthur shook his head lightly, then added,
"You know resting helps too."
Ryn didn’t even consider it.
"No ti."
Arthur sighed.
"...Yeah. That sounds like you."
For a mont, neither of them spoke.
The sounds of the training hall filled the gap. Movent, impacts, Lyra’s occasional instructions cutting through it all.
Arthur glanced at him again.
"You’re thinking too much."
Ryn frowned slightly.
"...What?"
"You’re trying to force it," Arthur said simply. "You already know what to do, but you’re trying to make it happen faster."
Ryn didn’t deny it.
"Because I need it to."
Arthur shrugged.
"And that’s why it’s not working."
That got a reaction.
Ryn’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"...You’re talking like you know it all."
Arthur laughed softly.
"I don’t."
Then he added,
"But I’ve had sothing similar."
Ryn waited.
Arthur tapped his temple lightly.
"When I first started using my mana... it didn’t click until I stopped forcing it."
Ryn stared at him for a second.
"...So what, I just relax and hope it works?"
Arthur shook his head.
"No. You keep going."
A pause.
"But stop trying to prove sothing every second."
Ryn went quiet again.
Arthur pushed off the wall.
"You’re already good enough to get it. You just need to let it happen."
Ryn let out a slow breath.
"...Easy for you to say."
Arthur smirked.
"Never said it was easy."
That broke the tension just a bit.
Ryn shook his head.
"You’re annoying."
"I get that a lot."
Another short silence.
Then Arthur straightened slightly.
"Anyway."
Ryn glanced at him.
"...Anyway?"
Arthur scratched the back of his head briefly, then dropped his hand.
"I didn’t just co to talk."
Ryn folded his arms.
"I figured."
Arthur looked at him properly now.
No joking this ti.
"I ant what I said before."
Ryn’s expression shifted slightly.
Arthur continued,
"About working together."
He stepped closer and stretched out his hand.
Simple.
Direct.
"I’ve fought with you. I’ve seen how you move, how you think."
Ryn didn’t interrupt.
Arthur’s voice stayed steady.
"You don’t hold back, and you don’t break under pressure."
A small pause.
"I like that."
Ryn blinked once, a bit caught off guard.
Arthur added,
"We’re already in the sa squad, but I want more than that."
Ryn raised a brow.
"...More?"
Arthur smirked slightly.
"Don’t make it weird."
That earned a small breath of air that almost passed as a laugh.
Arthur continued,
"I want us to actually rely on each other out there."
His hand stayed extended.
"Not just fight side by side, but move like it matters."
Ryn looked at the hand, then back at Arthur.
There was a mont there.
Not long.
Just enough.
"...You always do things like this?" he asked.
Arthur shrugged.
"Only when I an it."
That answered everything.
Ryn stepped forward and took his hand.
Firm grip.
No hesitation this ti.
"Then don’t slow down."
Arthur grinned.
"I won’t."
Their hands tightened briefly, then released.
Ryn rolled his shoulders once.
"I’m getting back to it."
Arthur nodded.
"Yeah. You should."
He turned slightly, already stepping away.
But then he paused and glanced back.
"Hey."
Ryn looked at him.
"You’re close."
Ryn didn’t respond with words.
But he didn’t need to.
Arthur nodded once, satisfied, and turned fully this ti.
As he walked away, he could feel it again.
That quiet shift.
The sa one from before.
Familiar now.
He didn’t even need to stop.
A small smile pulled at the corner of his lips.
"...As expected."
