After repositioning away from the battlefield and cleaning most of the blood off with a prepared rag, Cohen read through his status panel.

’So the stat boon of this class is that I have the freedom to allocate all my obtained points.

’That works too I guess.’

He looked at his eight points, thinking about what build he should follow.

Over the years, builds have accumulated plenty of research material, so people know what they’re getting into.

’Null Aura already gives the foundation of a fighter. I just have to build on it.’

Cohen reviewed his class skills and traits, forming a clearer idea of his path.

’A summoner... and then there’s the line in the class description that says The Priest is a pioneer.’

He made up his mind.

The build of choice was Hybrid Fighter, one that had a flexible combat style, mainly building on agility and endurance.

Then, depending on the awakened, they choose Strength or Intelligence to prioritize after those two. Most picked Intelligence, making this build’s main flaw its lack of raw power.

’But with Null Aura and the Baptised, I’ll get support for my raw power.’

Hybrid Fighter builds were known for their versatility—but they were also infamous for diocrity if built poorly.

Cohen didn’t mind. Flexibility mattered more than specialization right now.

He smiled widely, his hands clicking his screen.

[Agility: 11 → 15]

[Endurance: 12 → 16]

A faint warmth spread through his body as the system finalized the stat allocation.

’With the risks I plan to take, Endurance should be sufficiently high.’

Concluding this, Cohen was ready to move on to the next victim.

After a while of moving around in the safer outskirts of the forest, Cohen was standing on a tree branch, scouting.

He had only encountered two more level 5 lizards and two level 4 boars; all in the common rank.

This pushed him close to halfway through Level 2.

But as ti went by, the session was about to start.

’I underestimated how many beasts I could find, even with the Perception of Grays.’

Cohen shifted his view towards a distant part of the forest with sparse trees.

’I guess it’s ti to get my first Baptised.’

Cohen dropped down from the branch, moving with renewed focus toward a place that could be considered the most dangerous in the outskirts.

He knew of a large, natural waterhole—more like a deep pond fed by an underground stream—where the forest floor sloped away and the earth was constantly damp.

The waterhole was rumored to connect to the deep underground currents that eventually t the ocean, occasionally pulling in more dangerous, deep-sea aberrations.

The danger wasn’t imdiate, but lingering near the water’s edge for too long was asking for trouble.

He was looking for Slis, usually at level 7-15, that sotis appeared near the water source.

They would be perfect test subjects for his Baptism Talent.

They were weaker than their levels allowed and they were the easiest monsters to capture without injuring them much.

Cohen reached the waterhole, a blue, still pool surrounded by mossy stones.

The air here was colder, the humidity thick.

He scanned the edges, his Perception of Grays sweeping the twenty-ter radius.

He detected the usual low-level aquatic insects and so stronger monsters in the waters.

’All these EXP and I can’t hunt them because the battle will attract worse monsters.’

Hissing slowly, Cohen continued his search.

The forest grew quieter the longer he searched, the sounds of insects fading into the damp air.

Still no Slis of the caliber he needed. The ones he detected were less than level 7.

’Still nothing.’

He was about to turn to another edge of the waterhole when a cold, prickly feeling pierced the edge of his perception.

It wasn’t the ambient life energy of the forest; it was focused, external—the unmistakable sense of being watched.

Cohen froze, not moving his head, but letting his heightened senses triangulate the source.

It was low to the ground, almost blending into the gray-green moss covering a large subrged rock at the water’s edge.

Then, his eyes finally registered.

Sitting partially on the rock, a creature unlike any sli he had seen before observed him.

It was perfectly spherical, about the size of a large lon, and entirely achromatic—a pure, soft gray that seed to absorb the light.

It didn’t look nacing.

In fact, its two, large pseudopod eyes watched Cohen’s movents with an expression that could only be described as cute and curious.

It bounced from left to right, watching as Cohen surveyed the region.

’What type of sli is that?’ he wondered as he slowly moved toward the creature.

When he reached the required radius, he used the system’s Inspect feature.

After getting closer and seeing that it didn’t move, Cohen walked forward more boldly and spoke to it.

"Hello, there. Nice to et you."

As if understanding his words, the Sli bounced up and down in positive response.

"Oh, you look cute."

He finally reached the sli, stretching his hand to pat the monster.

’Indeed. Slis are the easiest to ta.’

He willed the system to expand the beast’s information, which took a few seconds to load.

"A rare beast like yourself would be fit to be the first to follow ."

Putting his left hand to his chest and extending his right hand to the sli, he said.

"Would you like to follow the Path of Primordial, those that are null, the Grays amongst black and white, the path beyond normal comprehension?"

The sli stopped bouncing, tilting its head as if in consideration.

Cohen stood with the sun at his back, his shadow stretching toward the sli while his yellow eyes glead faintly in the light.

The sli stretched up a bit, as if opening its mouth in awe.

Part of its blob expanded and stretched to Cohen’s hand.

’The idea of acting out your skill to master it... could it be true?’ he laughed inwardly.

Cohen used his Baptism Talent, forming a connection with the sli.

The mont the sli’s pseudopod touched Cohen’s outstretched hand, a cold rush of Null Points left his reserve.

[-175 Null Points]

A dense, silvery-gray energy—a simpler version of Cohen’s own Null Aura—coalesced around the Spit Sli.

The air grew heavy, and the sli trembled violently, its gelatinous body rippling like disturbed water.

Its cute, curious eyes widening as its gelatinous form lted and reford.

It popped up, turning to a deep violet sli with streaks of dim blue running through its mass like veins

Two miniature, perfectly black rifts, no bigger than coins, occupied where its eyes had been.

The system confird the change with a quiet notification.

[Baptism Successful.]

Cohen felt a subtle, almost magnetic connection snap into place, a silent understanding passing between him and the newly Baptised monster.
