We heard a branch snap. Mint got alerted instantly as well as Olivia.

"There’s sothing in the woods!", he drew his sword ready for any sort of potential danger, I was rely startled and frozen in place.

Olivia stood before like a shield, alert and cautious, I noticed her eyes changed color, to black, with dark veins beneath.

Mint cautiously observed the woods before us, the thorn bushes remained still like it once were, covered in a coat of snow. I gulped suddenly regretting why I said we should co here alone, but this was the palace... this was the safest place I could be. I observed the woods too, surely it was just a creature ssing around within them.

Suddenly I felt my peripheral vision zoom in, I was startled by this, I could see within the woods where I stood, how was that possible? But still, I was able to find out why that noise was made and it was obviously nothing to worry about

"It’s just a rabbit" I announced, suddenly the small brown creature hopped out, playing with the snow. "A harmless one at that"

Mint shoulders seed to ease.

"Empress how did you-" Olivia’s eyes went wide.

"What is it?" I wondered why she was startled.

"Empress... your eyes," Mint said with wide eyes.

"My what? w-what’s wrong with my eyes?" I asked, getting a bit scared.

Olivia quickly took the tray on the table and stationed it in front of , although it was blurry, I could clearly see why they were startled, I gasped seeing my golden fox eyes, one minute it was there and the next it was back to their usual gold ones.

My eyes shook, suddenly my head shot in pain, I groaned rubbing my temples.

"Empress, are you okay?" Olivia asked worriedly, holding onto so that I wouldn’t fall. I was shaking right.

"Empress is not well, we must go back into the palace now!" Mint intoned.

I stood before the majestic mirror, my eyes palpitating, my brain still trying to process how my eyes changed or how I was able to view the forest at such a far distance. Could this be part of from my past life? I rembered reading about Yelena having the power to shapeshift into a fox. Those eyes I saw could be a lingering effect? But I was Mortal now, there was no way I could have such power, right? The goddess part of was no more.

"Right," I whispered in my head in a daze. No need for to think about this too much, so I had the eyes, well it didn’t seem so strange, there could still be so lingering effects, after all, that’s what I truly am.

I gasped when I felt a strong hand on my waist, My eyes shifted back to the mirror, it was Nicklaus. He pressed a kiss on my neck, and I humd in delight.

"I missed you" he whispered to my ear. I shivered, turning and going on my tiptoes, crashing my lips with his, he kissed back with so much vigor, his hands roaming my body sensually and gripping silk nighty tightly, I would so much want him to peel it off so that I could feel his hands roam my naked body, I missed that... I miss him.

I moaned in his mouth, my tongue rolling within and tasting every flavor he had to offer and he did the sa with .

"Where have you been?" I said breathlessly, I missed him so much that my heart ached, it had only been days but it felt like years.

He kissed my neck nibbling and sucking, I moaned, he drew my body backward and then grabbed my butt to straddle the table, it shook at the impact.

"A lot of things to take care of... part of ruling a Realm" he mused.

"Will it always be like this Nicklaus?" I frowned. "I understand we both have duties, but what about us?"

"I will make ti do not worry, my love," he said, kissing my forehead gently, his affections always made happy. "Consider it tomorrow then, we shall head into town so that you can see the rest of the Realm"

"Really?" I was elated, the thought of seeing his creation made happy.

"Yes my love, just think of it as a day out... I know being in this palace has made you quite uncomfortable am I right"

I smiled, placing my hand on his that he had resting on my cheek.

"How was your day with the court?"

"Well..." I sighed. "Ladies stuff I guess, it was a headache"

"Hmm ladies are always like that"

"Are you saying you I’m a headache"

"Sotis" he winked.

"Ugh!"

"Now where do you think you’re going? I’m not done with you yet" he mused, his hand firm on my waist. I could see the hunger dancing in his green orbs, I knew what it ant. I instinctively drew my hair backward exposing my neck and then he frowned, did I misread him?

"Is it not-"

"You only just recovered I’m not about to do that when you have loose so many already"

"It’s clear in your eyes"

"Forget that"

"I know the thing about Vampires, Nicklaus. The cravings of their beloved blood all the ti and I understand, you needn’t hide it"

"You’re Mortal!"

I paused, surely that was an outburst I did not expect from him, and he seed to regret it but he strode on, wanting to prove his point even further as if his outburst was not enough.

"Thereby I cannot let myself lose control, my beast is unstable you cannot handle that"

"So what... I’m just a doll who can easily break!"

He was about to say sothing but the words didn’t co off. I waited for him to say whatever he had in mind because I was already upset.

"I do not think of you that way my love... you’re not-"

"But I’m" I cut him off. "That’s the truth we have all been hiding from... will you even make love to anymore?", is what I feared and I knew he would go with that, I have noticed his hesitation ever since.

"Yelena" he struggled to find words.

I scoffs, I already got the answer I needed, I forced myself away from his hold and got down from the table walking away.

"Yelena"

"All these obstacles!" I snapped facing him, I took a deep breath running my hand in my silver hair "Age, control, being frail..." my jaw tightened. "I cannot even carry your child!"

His eyes narrowed, the words ca off before I could even stop it and I regretted it, I planned to speak with him about it, but there was no going back now.

"I’m no longer a goddess... I’m mortal and there are things I desire... things that I want that are far much different from the past ... I’m a different person now Nicklaus, gods I don’t even know what kind of person I was before all this... you all keep saying my mories will co to but I haven’t had a flick of it" I sniffed.

"When I saw that Birth Tree, I’m supposed to understand right? Because you and goddess Yelena already ca to terms with that fate but I-" I broke, the tears falling.

"This is too much Nicklaus even for " I cried.

Nicklaus was still where he was, her words screwed deep into him, her outburst of confessions was like a sealed chest now opened before his ears, all this she held within, how could he not have seen it, she was in pain and more... she. His body flinched, she was unhappy about him not being able to procreate, he never thought about that once, he felt he saw no need to, he thought it would have been just how it was then.... but that was his mistake for she grew up mortal and was sown into their ways, their words and everything, she desired things she was not supposed to, and they were things he couldn’t give.

"We’re together Nicklaus and gods I have never been happier, I’m by your side now" she sniffed using the back of her hands to wipe her tears, he could feel it, her heart was breaking and his were piercing. "But why do I feel like we’re apart?"

Her words hit him like a thousand tons of bricks, it sows deeper than intended and it pained him so because he was now the result of her tears, he strides toward her in a heartbeat and locked his arms around her in a tight hold hoping to stop her tears, for every ti he saw that salty water from her eyes, his world crumbled and he grew unstable.

Even the weather outside couldn’t be harsher and colder, his mood worked with the weather and he was feeling his mate’s pain, a pain that was the sa as his own.
