The night was dark and heavy with snow, visibility was less than 2 ters, and Yao Ruyi was cautiously moving forward with his gun, approaching the black Volkswagen Passat stopped in front of their car.
Just a mont ago, if it hadn’t been for the quick reflexes of the driver, who slamd the brakes promptly, they surely would have collided spectacularly with the car ahead.
Having narrowly avoided disaster, Yao Ruyi’s emotions had just settled down when he was inford that this place was indeed the location of the villa Liu Fugui had arranged to et.
And the car that they nearly crashed into was presumably Liu Fugui’s vehicle.
However, upon closer inspection, Yao Ruyi realized this car was not the one he had seen Liu Fugui driving away in.
He clearly rembered that during the intense gunfight, the enemy’s suppressive fire had riddled the vehicle with bullet holes, and the windshield was shattered. But the vehicle in front of him was perfectly intact.
This naturally raised suspicions for Yao Ruyi; surely this was the agreed location with Liu Fugui. He trusted that the driver had not mistakenly brought them to a wrong place for a joke.
And the vehicle here was indeed different from the one he saw Liu Fugui escaping in at the gunfight scene.
The most likely scenario now was that Liu Fugui had been tracked and pursued, and his enemies had discovered his presence here.
As Yao Ruyi’s steps moved forward, the situation he observed further confird his deductions.
A fragrant camphor tree lay horizontally across the road ahead, clearly revealing that the black Volkswagen Passat had been forced to stop because of this obstruction.
And the placent of this camphor tree barrier was very likely the work of Liu Fugui himself.
With this conclusion in mind, Yao Ruyi searched the surroundings but saw only a villa in disarray; nothing else caught his eye. He quietly retreated into the car without making a sound.
"How is it?" The brother responsible for driving stayed in the car to ensure they could leave imdiately in an ergency, keeping the vehicle running.
Yao Ruyi shook his head and pointed forward, saying, "That car is not the one Boss Liu escaped in. Also, the road ahead is blocked by a tree, which I believe was deliberately placed there!"
"Deliberately?" The brother driving had just experienced a near-death situation, so he was as skittish as a startled bird, easily upset by any anomaly.
Although his brother was alard and fearful, Yao Ruyi felt no less anxious; his seemingly decisive and bold actions today were driven by necessity rather than choice.
He had grown up without parents, always living a life of inferiority. Not to ntion fighting; even verbal confrontations were rare for him.
Even when tasked later with collecting supplies by Liu Fugui, he rely sat in the car directing paths, having never directly faced the zombies.
So upon receiving Liu Fugui’s ssage to rescue his son early in the morning, he was filled with concerns and uncertainties, worried about how to handle the situation. When he arrived at the scene, the well-equipped manpower of the opposing forces made him want to retreat, but seeing the three brothers behind him staring, his face burned with sha and he scolded himself for being cowardly and useless.
If he fled like a deserter at this mont, his life at the factory would surely be unbearable later on. So, to save his skin, he bravely charged forward.
Unexpectedly, amidst the chaotic barrage of bullets and shells, he slowly found a hint of pleasure, his initial fear and anxiety transforming into excitent.
Yes, at that mont, he thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of living on the edge of life and death.
Until they were chased and pursued by the enemy, using the snow cover to hastily escape into a residential building, paying a heavy price with 2 brothers forever left outside.
The bloody scent and commotion from both sides quickly caught the zombies’ attention, and soon after, the residence was completely surrounded.
Spring Xiu’s group, overwheld by the number of zombies, abandoned their plan to continue attacking the residence and withdrew.
Thereby, Yao Ruyi and the remaining brother narrowly managed to escape capture.
But the safety was rely temporary, constant scratching sounds and low roars from outside made one feel eerie.
As ti passed, Yao Ruyi gradually cald down from his previous excitent.
He soon realized his current predicant was akin to leaving the tiger’s mouth only to fall into the wolves’ den, surrounded by a pack of wolves—his understanding of the new zombie species was far greater than that of the brother beside him.
In his past four months of surviving alone, he had witnessed nurous bloodthirsty actions of these suddenly erged violent species. Cold fear gripped his heart once more.
Although several hours had passed since he successfully escaped the zombie encirclent, the lingering fear remained in his heart and that of his driving brother.
"So what do we do? Do you think Boss Liu has encountered so problem?" The brother driving was eager to leave the place quickly, reluctant to risk further conflict with the enemy. But he hadn’t finished speaking when soone interrupted him.
A black shadow in the back seat cursed in a weak voice: "Damn it, don’t jinx it. Here, use this to contact Boss Liu!"
Yao Ruyi took the hand-held radio and nodded to indicate he understood. He didn’t want to linger here any longer either, quickly picking up the radio to call.
"How is it? Can you identify them? Are those your two subordinates?" Xu Renjie pressed urgently, Liu Fugui had been busy for ages without any confirmation.
This wasn’t entirely Liu Fugui’s fault; the footage always showed the back of the figures, coupled with the snow gear covering them, making identification even harder.
Liu Fugui replied lightly without expression: "No, he’s never turned to face the cara, and now he’s in the car, so I can’t discern properly."
What now? Liu Fugui had no ti to waste; he picked up the radio from the monitoring desk to issue combat orders, but before he could speak, a voice erged:
"Boss Liu, it’s Yao Ruyi here, as you instructed, we’ve arrived at the designated location, where are you now? How can we et up?"
The unexpected radio voice caused a brief silence in the monitoring room. About 20 seconds passed, and Old Lin, reacting first, swiftly stepped forward and drew the radio Liu Fugui had dropped in the car from Old Xu’s waist, presenting it to him: "Boss Liu, quickly respond."
Without hesitation, Liu Fugui grabbed the radio and said: "I’m Liu Fugui, where are you now? At the villa?"
"Yes, Boss Liu, we’re just outside the villa, blocked by a black Passat, unable to proceed further. Please tell us the exact location; we need to walk to et you."
Hearing their description, everyone in the monitoring room let out a sigh of relief. From their words, it was almost certain that the newcors were Yao Ruyi’s group.
Yet, Liu Fugui, being a cunning old fox used to navigating the underworld, didn’t reveal the specific eting place, instead instructing: "Do this: imdiately wait at the villa entrance ahead of the obstruction, I’ll send soone to receive you."
His arrangent served two purposes: firstly, it allowed him to use the waiting ti at the villa entrance to perform a final accurate confirmation through surveillance equipnt, preventing any imitation to deceive.
Secondly, he still harbored so suspicion towards Yao Ruyi’s group, so ntioning sending soone to assist was a hint that he had forces at his disposal, warning them not to harbor ulterior motives and to think carefully before acting.
