When he was still the Duke of Duance, he already knew about the existence of demons. However, this information is not from the Annals that Martin Lux just gave him. It was from the docunts he was able to gather when he looked for the temple of the goddess that the previous generations buried.
Emperor Ranario was well aware of the transgressions that the past Emperors and the mbers of the Seven Families committed to secure the power they held. They waged war against the sorcerers and the people who opposed them. They conquered and slaughtered their way to their rule. Then they burned the books and anything that would expose the truth to everyone else.
It was a sad fact—sothing that made Ranario dislike the seven families. Now that he was already the emperor, he was trying to look for ways to expose a few parts of the forgotten history. He knew this would affect the other seven families, but to him, so things needed to be publicized.
The seven families were not as holy as they wanted everyone to think. They were mindless killers who would do anything for their own gain, for power. This incident, however, changed Ranario's plan.
"I could not believe he would give you sothing like that…" Rosalind's voice echoed inside the study. She walked towards the light, showing herself to the new Emperor.
"Miss Lin… I—"Emperor Ranario imdiately got up.
"Please, there is no need for such pleasantries." Rosalind smiled. Her eyes were on the Annals. In fact, she ca back because of this. She knew that Martin did not want to create more trouble for the Lux Family. With Federico gone, Martin's position had been shaken. He must have realized that having a blessing is useless if you do not have the mind to back it up.
Federico was full of sches, but Martin was different. He was a bit stupid, easily manipulated, and too emotional. With his emotions in disarray, his obvious priority would be the safety of his family and himself—especially in these very troubleso tis. She already expected him to reveal what he knew. But this? This had exceeded her expectations.
"Did you co back for the Annals?" the Emperor asked.
"I did."
"What of the north?"
"The North was able to take care of the demons. However, the other Empires did not have a good ti. They were not able to close the portals, and so the demons kept on appearing. Although… they were able to find ways to deal with them." Rosalind only heard this from the reports. She had not seen it herself. Lucas already told her that no weapon on this continent could deal with the demons.
However, soone actually discovered that they could use a cursed object to kill a demon. Cursed weapons were sothing that the dark lord created in the past or weapons that have killed thousands of souls. They have been trying to confirm this information when Rosalind left.
The portals in the North have been closed. Yet they were not yet out of danger. Lucas and Belisarius told her that the portals could appear anyti. The thing they needed to do was get rid of all that dark liquid as Ena Thun and her people used it to open all the portals. Now, the question is how?
Belisarius said that he is not capable of doing that. He said that it was only Rosalind who could absorb the dark liquid. Sadly, she would not be able to do it alone.
"May I?" Rosalind said.
The Emperor nodded and handed her the Annals that Martin Lux gave him. Rosalind imdiately started reading it. Just as she thought, the Annals did ntion the fact that the Goddess sacrificed herself to make sure that the barrier would be able to withstand the attack of the strongest demons. It was also ntioned that she gave her abilities to seven of what she considered her friends.
The Seven Families. While reading, Rosalind imdiately noticed sothing wrong. It seems that this was lacking?
"The Annals only talked about the demons on the other side and how the humans were enslaved. It was the goddess who saved them. But what happened after that?" Rosalind asked.
"I— He said these were the things that he could find in his father's study." The Emperor said. "He must be hiding sothing." An omission is still a kind of lie, isn't it?
After a few minutes, she gave the Annals back, her mind in chaos.
"Those are not the real ones. If they were indeed the real ones, then only seventy percent of them should be true. The rest are lies, created and manipulated by the seven families to make themselves look better."
"What does Miss Lin an?"
"The seven families wanted the power that exists on the other side of this barrier. The one who created the portal is Ena Thun. Soone is supporting her, a demon, or perhaps soone who remained hidden, soone we do not know."
"Ena Thun? The Thun Family?"
Rosalind nodded. "Ena and her family had been doing so experints. She wanted to beco more powerful—the most powerful one on this continent. She had long allied herself with the demons and used the cover of the beast to kidnap more people and experint on them.
The incident in the north a couple of weeks ago, the humanoid monsters that started consuming people should be a product of their failed experints."
Rosalind did not intend to hide this fact from the Emperor. Right now, she cannot work alone. She needed allies.
"Are you telling the truth? Were you able to confirm this?" the Emperor asked. Seeing the look on Rosalind's face, he imdiately clarified. "I did not an it like that. It's just that the power and influence that the seven family's hold are still imnse. It would be difficult to use words without any concrete evidence.
She could easily use it against us."
Rosalind pursed her lips.
The Emperor was actually right. It would be very hard to prove all this, especially because the place where Ena Thun did all of her experints was already destroyed. They have nothing left that could prove she did it!
