"The relic around the old man was preventing him from using his ability to heal. It was not enough to kill him," Belisarius said as they stared at the half-dead Patriarch of the Lux Family. "Who would do this?"
"The thing inside Dorothy," Rosalind answered, her eyes still glued to her skeleton-like grandfather. "I never thought that he would be treated like this...." Why would Dorothy keep Federico alive? If she took the old man to try and fra Lucas, then it would have been better for her to make use of the situation and kill the old man to fully fra Lucas for the old man's death.
This would have imdiately alerted the other mbers of the Seven Families.
"She wanted to use the old man's body as a vessel," Belisarius uttered.
"Or, she wanted to know sothing from the old man," Lucas interjected. He approached Federico and took one of the relics around him. "The numbers of the relics were the exact amount needed to weaken soone who received a blessing. If I remove or move one of them, the effects of the relics would not be as powerful." He lifted his gaze and stared at Belisarius.
"If she intended to use the body as a vessel, then she could easily explore other ways to do this without keeping him alive and giving him the chance to recover. After all, he is one of the older generations who was able to develop his blessing properly. He could heal his own body even if he was already unconscious."
Rosalind nodded.
In the past, she had studied many ways to use the light blessing. She knew that those who received the light blessing had a special constitution that would make them heal their own body even if they were unconscious. Lucas actually had a point. The demon who used the relics should also know this information.
"Do you have any other thoughts in mind?" Belisarius asked.
"I believe it is wise that we move him to another place where he could recuperate," Rosalind uttered.
Not long after, they arrived at the black market, specifically at Mr. Pratt's establishnt, which was owned by the fourth quartermaster.
Seeing the old man, Mr. Pratt was quick to call so physicians and the expert Mathies to attend to the old man's needs, making sure that he survived.
"Thank you for letting us use this place...." Rosalind thanked Mr. Pratt. She was currently using her illusion, showing her face as Lin.
"No matter... This is a trivial matter," Mr. Pratt said. He looked at Lucas, then towards Belisarius. "May I know if... if you ca here because of that black portal?" he asked.
"Do you know sothing about that portal?" Rosalind asked.
"I— " For a few seconds, the older man hesitated. He clenched his teeth before he continued. "I have read so books calling it a portal, so called it a rift, so called it a door to another dinsion. I am not certain if this was the sa portal that was described in those books."
"But you do not seem scared?" Rosalind smiled. Although she could sense so hesitation coming from the older man, he was not showing any panic in his eyes.
"This place is highly secured," Mr. Pratt said. "Located in another dinsional rift, this place is even safer than that of the capital."
"Oh?" Rosalind looked at Lucas, who nodded in response.
"All of the black markets had been hidden in another space," Mr. Pratt uttered. "Other creatures cannot easily breach this space. However, diseases and so curses are different. Since they are contagious and may travel through the air and other ans, it is easier for them to bring devastation inside this space."
Rosalind nodded. Now, she completely understood why Mr. Pratt panicked when that curse spread in the capital. Sohow, she looked at Lucas who had once offered to bring her sowhere— a different space— to keep her safe.
It seed that he knew more about dinsions and the like, but since she did not show any curiosity about the matter, he also never ntioned it to her.
"Then, this is indeed the safest place to hide the old man," Rosalind said a knowing smile apparent on her face.
What they did not know was the fact that the mont they left the underground tunnel where Dorothy left the old man, Dorothy arrived with another shadow in tow.
After her conversation with that demon, she imdiately decided to get the old man for a few reasons. First, she could use his body to bargain with the Lord. After all, he is soone who received the blessing of the goddess. His body should be physically strong as well.
Second, she wanted to do another round of interrogation about the Goddess's body.
Dorothy did not just co here because she wanted the Lord to co and rule this Continent.
She ca here because she wanted to own the Goddess's body. The power that the Goddess's body possesses is simply unimaginable. Even the Demon Emperor was not able to break the barrier that the Goddess created! Dorothy could only imagine how powerful she really was if she was not using most of her abilities to protect the humans.
And third… she ca here to rule.
Was she soone who would stand by the Lord's side and watch him enslave the humans? The simple answer is no. She would never allow that to happen.
Seeing the now vacant room, Dorothy's expression imdiately turned ugly.
"Who is it?" she hissed. She used her ability to try and sense the old man's sll but to no avail. She could not actually locate the old man? Was he in another space?
She gritted her teeth. Even the relics that she used to stop the old man from using his abilities were gone!
Soone just stole the relics and even dared to take the old man!
"AH!" Dorothy sent a ball of dark magic into the wall. A loud sound reverberated against the walls of the cave-like structure. She had kept that body alive to use it for the Lord! Yet, soone just actually ruined her plans!
