Book 3, Chapter 261: Demonstration

With a whistle, the Frost King Saber ca out of its sheath, and its blade shone with a chilling glare under the cold sky.

Chen Chuan brandished the saber and walked forward with steady footsteps.

Compared to two months ago, he had improved quite significantly, and it wasn’t just because he had started ntal training. His physical foundation had also grown stronger.

Over the past few days, he had also been sparring with Hongfu, since he was in the university. This allowed him to perfectly fuse with the power he had accumulated.

Aside from those things, his resonance with his second self had also grown stronger, since he had been fighting strong opponents. His second self had also grown closer to reaching the Third Limit.

Chen Chuan looked forward to fighting against soone strong, and this grand commandant was the perfect candidate.

As he walked closer, the grand commandant jumped down. Despite being in full armor, he didn’t create much of a sound when he landed. He just sank a little before negating all the force from the impact.

Chen Chuan could see clear signs of damage on his armor and marks left behind by weapons. These details were perfectly brought to life.

But he believed that this hologram wasn’t like Hongfu. It wouldn’t be able to use different martial art styles. It was likely a reconstruction based on Chen Bitong’s mories and experiences.

The grand commandant stared at Chen Chuan with bloodshot eyes, then plunged his long spear into the ground and drew the saber. As his armor clattered, he walked forward.

Chen Chuan went toward him as well, but before they got close, the grand commandant suddenly sped up and arrived next to Chen Chuan in the blink of an eye. The saber ca swinging at him. It didn’t seem particularly fast, but it was flawless and gave Chen Chuan the feeling that he couldn’t avoid it.

Not that he needed to.

With a flip of his wrists, he t the attack. The grand commandant could have changed his attack, but clearly, after observing Chen Chuan, he was confident in his own strength. So, he did not change direction. He even moved faster.

Chen Chuan’s gaze was unreadable. The mont their weapons clashed, Chen Chuan overlapped with his second self. A powerful force imdiately channeled into his saber, and he deflected the weapon.

The grand commandant had intended to overpower Chen Chuan, but he had misjudged the power of Chen Chuan’s saber. This mistake led to him being unable to use the strategy he had prepared.

Noticing that things were going awry, the grand commandant tried to recalibrate in order to fend against all possible future attacks from Chen Chuan, but no matter how fast he moved, there had been a break in his movents. It created a gap.

This gap was a clear opening in the face of an opponent of equal strength.

Chen Chuan had overlapped with his second self at the last second to create this opening and set the fight in motion. He had no plans to let the grand commandant regain his bearings and imdiately swung his saber sideways while closing in.

The grand commandant brought his elbow up and used his vambrace to block it. Even if his arm ended up broken, he could stop the onslaught for a mont.

That single mont would be enough for him to recollect himself. He could also get enough ti for his mutated tissue to transform. The mont the transformation was complete, his strength would increase by leaps and bounds, and he could overpower his enemy.

Chen Chuan figured out his intentions from his movents. Even if he didn’t cut into his arm but switched the direction of his attack so he could keep control over the fight, that brief mont would give the grand commandant ti to breathe.

This went against his plan to get the upperhand the mont the fight started. A spark appeared in his eyes, and he continued his attack.

When the saber slamd into the grand commandant’s arm, it didn’t slice it apart. Instead, a wave of refined force sank in, and it turned into a powerful shove.

The mont the two opposing forces clashed, the grand commandant fell backward.

Alarm bells screeched in his head.

But his saber had been deflected, which left his face wide open. If he didn’t want to be killed by a single attack, he had no other choice but to block with his arm, and in order to make sure that the block could stop the saber’s montum, the mutated tissue in his arm was strung tight. All his power and so of his blood essence were gathered there.

Chen Chuan had been counting on that, and it led to a slight shift in the grand commandant’s center of gravity. At this point, the grand commandant knew that he was pushed into a defensive position, and his only chance of turning things around was to complete his transformation.

Yet Chen Chuan refused to give him the opportunity. Since he had seized control of the fight and continued his attack on the grand commandant’s arm, he was bound to be a step faster. His third attack shot past the grand commandant as quickly as lightning, and the man’s head flew into the air.

Chen Chuan didn’t stop moving. He brought the saber back and delivered another slash, instantly cutting through the waist. The grand commandant fell on the ground in three sections.

While brandishing his saber, Chen Chuan strode over and stomped down on the head.

Crunch.

The head and the vitalized brain tissue were squashed to bits.

He had killed the grand commandant, who was supposed to be stronger than the Iron Monster, in just three slashes. The fight went by smoothly and wasn’t dragged out in the slightest.

The difference in performance wasn’t just because he had improved over the past two months. It was also because he had used his second self to make the grand commandant misjudge his strength. The mont the grand commandant lost in their first exchange of blows, he was bound to be forced into a defensive position.

That was how a fight between powerful martial artists was supposed to go. A wrong judgnt could lead to very different outcos.

And since the grand commandant hadn’t managed to complete his transformation, the strength he displayed couldn’t even compare to the strength the Iron Monster showed at the final stage of their fight.

Chen Bitong had watched the entire fight from the back and remarked, “Not bad.”

“How long did you take to win against the grand commandant, Instructor Chen?” Chen Chuan asked after returning to Chen Bitong’s side.

“It was ten years ago, before I reached my current level. I rember it taking around half an hour. I planned to use that past self of mine to asure your strength, but it seems like I’ve still underestimated you,” Chen Bitong said.

He looked ahead and walked over before producing a small gasoline flask from his pocket. Once he poured the contents on the grand commandant, he lit up a lighter and burned the body. The grand commandant’s corpse instantly went up in flas.

“Their bodies also have a high chance of vitalization. You can’t just crush their heads. You have to get rid of their bodies as well. Burning them with fire is the simplest way.”

He motioned at the gasoline flask. “You can get this from the Logistics Departnt. It was supposed to be used to start fires while out in the open, where one flask could last you for days, but you can also use it for this. Take one with you whenever you’re out on missions. It makes disposing of the bodies easier.”

Chen Chuan nodded. Such tidbits of knowledge were useful. He was going to lead a squad in the rged space in the future, so learning about these things was his duty to his team mbers.

“Captain Chen, during the fight just now, do you think that if you switched tactics, you could have killed the grand commandant in a shorter amount of ti?” Chen Bitong asked.

Chen Chuan thought about it. If he had released all his strength in an instant, perhaps, but if he used the Furnace Breathing Technique at the start, he would have given up his chance of concealing his strength and lost the elent of surprise.

The grand commandant might have imdiately gone through vitalization, so he couldn’t really tell.

“I can’t say,” Chen Chuan replied honestly.

“You made yourself appear weaker and killed the grand commandant before he could complete his transformation. This is the correct strategy.

“But this will only work once. The remnants of the royal family have a well-developed information network. They also have moles among us. Once they determine how dangerous you are, the mont similar enemies see you, they’ll imdiately transform.

“You’ve killed the Iron Monster, so the next ti they see you, they won’t give you the chance to use this strategy. But you have another strategy you can use.”

“Please tell ,” Chen Chuan imdiately asked for guidance.

“You must understand that the vitalized organs have their own consciousness, but they remain dormant due to the royal technology. The minds of the royally-appointed warriors are the ones in control of the bodies.

“But once they complete the vitalization process, the vitalized organs beco the ones controlling the bodies. While they share the sa body, they can switch between two sets of consciousness. During this switch, there is a brief pause in their ntal processes and movents. Even if the two consciousnesses have completely rged, they still need ti to adjust.

“That’s your chance.

“We just need to engage them in a ntal clash and hold back the switch for a brief second, and their bodies will disconnect from their minds. You don’t need a highly advanced ntal technique for this, nor do you need to overpower your opponent. You just need a small clash, but you have to get the timing right.

“Observe.”

He tapped his Realm Pass, and the grand commandant appeared again. Chen Bitong then went forward and grabbed the long spear the first grand commandant had plunged into the ground.

Perhaps it was due to the intense aura he gave off right from the start, but the new grand commandant imdiately went through a transformation. Mutated tissue grew out of his body and filled the gaps of his armor.

Chen Bitong waited for the transformation to end before stepping forward. When he was a suitable distance away, he thrust the spear forward.

The grand commandant brought his own spear up to block the attack, but as if he had noticed sothing off, he slowed down a little. He also turned to the side in order to avoid the attack.

Chen Bitong seed to know where the grand commandant was going to move and redirected his spear thrust through the mask. His refined force was sent forward, and the grand commandant’s brain exploded in the helt.

After killing him, Chen Bitong didn’t stop there. He turned to the side, where another grand commandant was walking over.

Just like before, he let the grand commandant transform before approaching him and thrusting forward.

It was the sa attack, and the grand commandant was once more unable to put up a proper resistance.

Squelch.

Chen Bitong easily drove the spear through the mask. A crack resounded, and the helt fell down. It was followed by mangled flesh and crushed bone that spilled all over the ground.
