Book 3, Chapter 234: Ambush

As the martial artists charged forward, the motorcade several kiloters ahead suddenly sped up on its way back.

The first motorcade that had passed by Chen Chuan and Lei Guangcheng’s motorcade had turned back and was now charging back.

If anyone looked from the sky, they would see the two motorcades forming a complete encirclent.

Once Mr. Yao noticed that sothing was off with the motorcade ahead, he knew that things were about to go bad, and he imdiately had all the mbers bring out their guns. At the sa ti, he had the cars at the back of the motorcade get closer to the ones at the front so that they could set up a defensive formation to block any potential charges. The guards also hoisted machine guns on the roofs to point at the cars in front and the side.

Even if they could use rituals, guns were more convenient and useful in a fight.

But this wasn’t going to be enough, so Mr. Yao contacted certain Cult Investigation Bureau mbers in the motorcade.

They imdiately got off. Then, with the cars in front of them serving as a shield, they went to the sides of the motorcade and spread out bundles of carpet-like things on the ground before nailing down their edges with hamrs.

These ritual arrays could prevent the people in the distance from observing them by causing visual misalignnt.

The implant-enhanced combatants charged forward so quickly that they arrived in front of the Cult Investigation Bureau’s motorcade in an instant, but the bioweapons were even faster.

Since they had wings, the combat praying mantises descended from the sky, but the mont they got closer, they were affected by the rituals and collapsed.

The martial artists and marksn in the motorcade then killed them with weapons.

The entire process was so easy that it seed like the bioweapons were entirely useless in the fight.

But Mr. Yao didn’t relax because of this. Since this group had decided to ambush them, they had to know their identity. The bioweapons were likely sent over to test their rituals and make the subsequent attacks easier.

Just as he predicted, after the first wave of bioweapons died, the combatants behind them figured out their set up and closed in.

So people lifted their guns to provide reinforcent, but a sniper from the motorcade shot the first person who did that down, and his head snapped back before he collapsed on the road. Even a reinforced skull couldn’t block a shot from a sniper rifle.

The machine gunn on the cars began firing, and the combatants instantly spread out.

When Mr. Yao noticed that and more enemy marksn joining the fight, he gave an order, “Everyone, put on your gas masks and start throwing smoke canisters.”

So of the security guards imdiately threw smoke canisters out. They aid for the area around the motorcade. Cracking sounds rose, and thick smoke filled the air.

It was custom-made smoke that could obscure vision. At the sa ti, it was a signal for help. The checkpoints nearby would detect it and know that sothing was wrong here. The gas masks and goggles the security guards wore were also specially made. They allowed them to see through the smoke, thus creating a beneficial fighting area for them.

But the weather wasn’t good for that. The wind from the wilderness was just too strong. The mont the smoke appeared, most of it was blown away, and the wind was showing signs of getting even stronger. Still, any bit of cover was good for them.

The combatants didn’t charge into the smoke rashly. The marksn of the motorcade weren’t in a hurry to fire either. Instead, they let the snipers at the rear use the cover of the smoke to pick off their targets one-by-one.

If things continued this way, they might be able to survive the attack. They had sent a telegram to Central City and the other bases, asking for help. They weren’t too far from Central City, so there was a chance that reinforcents could arrive on ti and get them out of the ss.

However, when it looked like they could secure the situation, they saw a transport vehicle rushing over, as if it wanted to knock away the cars blocking its path.

Without needing any order, the marksn started firing. The transport vehicle’s tires burst, and it toppled on its side. This created an obstacle that blocked the snipers’ vision.

A mont later, they heard two thuds before two explosives went off in the middle of the motorcade.

One of them happened in an armored car. It trembled violently, and the marksman on it died. The shrapnel flew everywhere, affecting the armored cars within ten ters of the explosion.

The other explosive landed in an empty area, and no one died from it, but one of the car’s tires burst. Clearly, the smoke and rituals were sowhat useful.

Mr. Yao’s expression changed. “Mortars?!”

The ambushers had set up the two mortars at the front lines with the intention of firing when their motorcade passed by, but they stopped several kiloters away, which made it hard for them to accurately hit their target. Hence, they moved the mortars over before firing them.

This was bad. If they didn’t get rid of the mortars, they would be sitting ducks before them. Yet it was too late to send a lee combatant to get rid of the mortars, because their ambushers were sure to have set up defenses to prevent that.

“Kill the mortar operators!” Mr. Yao ordered the snipers.

The snipers fired right away, but they weren’t very effective. The ambushers had set up defensive shields in front of the mortars. If they wanted to land a shot, they would have to change their location.

The two snipers didn’t give up. They moved to another spot, but the mont they arrived at the border of the motorcade, they were attacked by their ambushers’ snipers and were unable to leave. Their only option was to get into a shootout with the enemy snipers.

This delay led to two more mortar shells landing among the motorcade. Fortunately, due to the smoke, they didn’t hit anything.

Even so, they couldn’t let this continue.

Mr. Yao scowled. The enemy had numbers on their side. If they wanted to destroy the two mortars, Mr. Yao would have to do it himself. The problem was, he was sure that the enemy had at least one Third Limit martial artist among them, and more might be hiding in the shadows, waiting, while his main task was to protect Lei Guangcheng. The mont he stepped away, he would be giving the enemy the chance to kill Lei Guangcheng.

Chen Chuan also noticed this from his car and knew that it would be difficult for Mr. Yao to handle the situation alone, so he gave so instructions to Wu Han and Wei Dong before stepping out of the car. Then, he walked out of the smoke.

The mont he showed his face, he tilted his head, and a bullet grazed his body.

He ignored it and headed toward the mortars.

They were about three hundred ters away, but Chen Chuan had no intention of rushing over. He put his hand into his pocket and grabbed a few rocks of varying sizes.

His mutated tissue started generating power, and once he gathered enough of it, he flung his arm.

The shields in front of the mortar fell back, as if they had been hit by sledgehamrs. One of the mortar operators behind them also had his head cracked open.

An enemy nearby tried to lift his shield to cover the hole in the defense, but after he took just a few steps forward, a gunshot rang in the air, and his head burst open.

When one of the two snipers saw that there were no longer any shields acting as a nuisance, he fired at the target again.

Upon seeing this, Chen Chuan decided to leave this side of the fight to the motorcade. Instead, he shifted to another side and threw a few more stones to knock back the shields protecting the other mortar. The second sniper then got rid of the remaining mortar operator.

Mr. Yao saw this and felt so of the weight on his shoulders lessen, but that didn’t an that he let down his guard. He could tell that this group had been sent by a powerful organization. Not only had they brought mortars, but they also had dozens of implant-enhanced combatants and more than one hundred bioweapons. This fighting force was enough for them to fight a small-scale war.

If not for the fact that their escort team was larger and more well-equipped than the standard escort team and had Chen Chuan’s team, they might have been defeated in an instant.

Just then, he received a ssage.

The motorcade from United Might had co back, but they were blocked off at the back.

Mr. Yao thanked his lucky stars. Fortunately, he had listened to Chen Chuan and scattered so spikes and spike strips at various parts of the road, which prevented those cars from being unable to co over right away. They would have to get out and clear out the spikes first.

Because of that, they wouldn’t have to fight on two fronts for the ti being.

After losing the mortars, the enemy showed no intention of recklessly attacking the motorcade, not when it was defended by machine guns. They entered a stalemate and just kept shooting at each other.

Mr. Yao’s expression turned grim; this situation wasn’t going to last long. After all, the enemy Third Limit martial artists had yet to join the fight.

Once these people charged in, their marksn would have a hard ti reacting to them. If they didn’t have suitable martial artists going up to stop them, in just a short while, the enemy would destroy this still manageable situation.

The outco of the fight was going to be decided by the Third Limit martial artists.

While Mr. Yao was thinking about it, his expression hardened. A person had appeared within his sight.

They might have been dressed like any other combatant, but based on their speed, it was clear that this person was a Third Limit martial artist. Mr. Yao kept a close eye on the person.

It seed like they were wary of sothing, because they were just standing there and observing the motorcade. They did not step forward.

Even so, Mr. Yao didn’t let his guard down. He was ntally prepared for it. If the person ca over, he was going to stop them. As for Lei Guangcheng, he would have to ask Chen Chuan to protect him.

Just then, an armored limousine drove over. Jiancheng Sheng was sitting at the back of it. His eyes were trained ahead while he held his saber.

Even though the fight was intense and he saw many strange things he had never seen on the island nations, they were useless against people like him, so he didn’t pay much attention to them. Instead, he was looking forward to seeing his opponent.

When the limousine arrived at the front lines, it ca to a slow stop. The car door was opened, and the person in the front passenger seat turned around. “Mr. Jiancheng, we’ve arrived. We’ll be leaving the rest to you.”

“That’s fine,” Jiancheng Sheng said seriously and got out with his saber in hand.
