"Eh?! So, you lost your ga?! Even after Brother Sheva's help?!"
It was the night after the ga was over, and in the dinner session with everyone, just like the usual, Devi ca like she was the fucking Draco Malfoy, grinning smugly just to mock the girl's failure. It was so funny, though, that just like in the Harry Potter movie, she also had two bigger boys around him, even if in this case, those two were too embarrassed to join her fun.
Claudia herself handled this situation in a calr manner than Harry Potter had ever shown for the rest of the series. The girl had promised her big sister that she would try to be civil with Devi, so she didn't show any of her usual sneer, just smirked a little with a challenging look.
"Well, yeah, I lost my ga. But at least, I didn't even lose that much of a rating, right? Don't worry, my gain will overtake yours soon."
No mock, no sarcastic remark here. Just a pure class reply to challenge her rival to get better in the tournant. Devi was so stunned before she snorted coldly. "Ha! As if you can overtake !" She huffed, arms folding in front of her chest. However, anyone who heard that could notice that there was no heat in her tone.
"Still, Claudia did a good job today. It is not easy to survive that long against Bu Xiangzhi, but she managed to do that, even pushing for a win at so points. There is still room for improvent, but I can see her becoming stronger after this ga." Sheva didn't hesitate to praise her.
The girl just smiled smugly, her ears rose as if she were a dog that had just been petted by the owner. Seeing this, of course, Devi was not happy. She just huffed and gobbled a big chunk of pizza in front of her before asking, "What about , Brother Sheva?"
Now, it was Sheva's ti to sigh helplessly. Honestly, he felt like a main character of a harem story, having to balance his relationship with so many girls at the sa ti. It might look enjoyable from an outside perspective, but won had always been strange creatures, so hard to understand.
Fortunately, it was clear, though, what Devi wanted to get right now, and it was his praise.
"You also did an incredible job, Devi." The boy smiled. "I tell you what, it is not easy to maintain a strong montum after making a big upset against one of the best players in the section, and you still did it. Granted, your opponent this ti is far weaker, but that man's rating is still above yours, right?"
Devi nodded rapidly with a big smile on her face, squirming happily at the praise.
It was not just empty praise, though. Sheva genuinely felt that Devi did a good job. Facing a local FM with an ELO rating of 2201, about 130 above her, the girl showed a composure beyond her age, executing a complicated tactical battle so decisively to steal a win after fighting for more than 40 moves.
She continued her strong start after drawing the ga against Aryan Chopra, and just in two rounds, the girl was able to get 35 ELO ratings, enough to propel her rating to get through the 2100 threshold in one go.
They were not the only ones thriving, though. Today was a good day for all the Indonesian players in Biel, as it seed everyone had a positive result.
Out of seven gas, only two didn't end up in a win. The first one was Claudia's and the second one was Laysa. After winning her first ga today, she t a strong opponent from India, Bharath Subramaniyam, and… Well, let's just say the girl got what she wanted here.
She didn't go for any excessive or fancy opening, just a pragmatic Ruy-Lopez one without any complication. She executed everything so clinically, never letting any ss leak from her side. In the end, in such a dead draw ga, Subramaniyam was so frustrated to break through the girl's defense that he stord away after accepting the three-fold repetition draw.
The others were also doing well. After losing in their first match, Duta, Nayaka, and Dita Karenza managed to bounce back stronger than ever. The first two were able to regain their confidence after the training session with Sheva the night before, while the latter showed that even without Sheva's guidance, she was still the forr prodigy who created havoc in the Indonesian Chess Community during her youth, pulling a masterclass attacking style to bring back her first point of the tournant.
At least, the result was enough to make them feel that they were not behind the others, which was important for their confidence in the next stage.
However, the most amazing one was, of course, Anna. Playing against Daniil Yuffa, a strong Russian-Spanish GM who was also in the top five in this section, she managed to survive for more than 40 moves before launching a strong and decisive attack.
The girl played like Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the boxing ring, defending everything like a turtle shell before striking back with the hardest punch she could ever pack, landing a decisive blow to knock out her opponent. Poor Daniil Yuffa, he didn't even know what mistake he made before everything went south.
So, yeah, in the end, everything went well for all the Indonesian players here, with Anna taking the lead after becoming the only one who snatched two victories out of the first two rounds of the tournant.
Of course, being an underdog, her opponent would be more difficult in the next round. However, the boost of confidence she received after winning against a 2600-rated player like Daniil Yuffa was enough to give her a slight hope that maybe… just maybe, she could recreate what Sheva did here last year.
Well… That was what she thought, before the pairing was out and Anna saw her opponent tomorrow.
"What?! I have to face Bu Xiangzhi?!"
