It wasn’t the final ga of the day. Hell, so of the gas were still running, and Sheva could see all the players putting their utmost concentration on their own board. However, the mont the handshake was made, cheers erupted from the crowd, regardless of whether they were disturbing others or not.
"Congratulations, Sheva!"
"You’ve done a good job! We are so proud of you!"
"The first place with three rounds away to play?! Are you fucking kidding ?!"
Suddenly, everyone greeted him as if the boy were their old friend. He could also see that so children and teenagers had their eyes shining, waiting for him to walk there before they could swarm him rcilessly. Hell, if not for the security team blocking their way to go through the venue, Sheva was sure that he would’ve been surrounded right now.
’Oh, well, I should’ve greeted them, right?’ Sheva muttered. With that thought in mind, he let out the brightest smile on his face while also clenching his fist in the air, and even though the boy didn’t really say anything, the strong gesture was enough for him to gain another round of applause.
"Congrats, young man." Mustafa Yilmaz, the man he had just beaten, smiled stiffly as he offered a handshake.
"Ah, thank you, Mister Yilmaz." Sheva nodded politely.
They didn’t exchange too many words, as Sheva himself was too excited to be bound in his current chair. No, after that, the boy rose imdiately, leaving the venue before the arbiter or the security team could reprimand him, and went to the dia booth to et his best friend. He himself didn’t notice that his face was flushed red, as if all the blood were running at light speed inside his body.
"Goddamnit, Shev! That’s incredible!" Before he could find where the dia booth was, Bagas suddenly jumped, chest bumping his friend with the sa level of excitent. "We win! We win the whole damn thing!" He roared.
Just like before, no one really stopped them from venting out like this. Hell, even Peter Leko and David Howell also gave a polite applause, knowing full well how it felt to win a major tournant for the first ti. Not just them, but the cara crews and all the official mbers of this tournant are also doing the sa, staring at Sheva admiringly.
Not that Sheva and Bagas cared, of course, as right now, they were too imrsed in their own ecstasy.
Honestly, this was way better than winning the gold dal in the Olympics, as at that ti, the country played terribly, so the joy was sowhat subdued by the feeling of defeat. This ti, Sheva won the entire thing for himself, and this could also be considered the real start of his elite career, as this would get him one ticket to the Tata Steel Master next year. He would definitely get more invitations later, which would also help him elevate his na further in the world ranking.
Well... That was just a story for another ti. Now, he still had a trophy to celebrate for, and honestly, Sheva still wanted to get drawn into this feeling.
"Let’s do the interview later. Now, I still want to make a call first." He said to Bagas and anyone else there.
"Sure." Bagas nodded, knowing who his best friend was about to call. The other dia people who also wanted to interview Sheva also backed down after Bagas explained it quickly. This was probably the plus side of the chess dia, as they were not pushy toward the star on the field.
Sheva didn’t wait even for a second as he rushed back to the hotel, and once the boy entered the room, he grabbed his phone imdiately, connecting it to the call with the people back ho.
"CONGRATULATIONS!" The mont the call was connected, the familiar sound exploded through the phone. Sheva even had to distance himself from the phone, feeling a headache from the voice ringing in his head.
"Hey, Sheva! I have already sent my congratulatory card on social dia! Don’t forget to share it on your story, okay?"
"Laysa, that’s not fair! Big Sis and I are the first ones to have that idea!"
"Ia, you can be shaless, but you still have to have a principle, okay?! How dare you lie with a straight face like that!"
Sheva could feel the corner of his lips twitching at the commotion on the other side of the world. He checked the ti on his phone and shook his head in exasperation.
’It is still 6 in the evening here, but there, it should be midnight already, right? And they are still awake just to wait for to call them? Those girls sure are sothing, huh?’
Even though he said that, Sheva could still feel his heart warming, as this was indeed a nice surprise for him. The boy just called Anna out of instinct, wanting to push his luck a little, hoping that the girl was still awake. Who knew that not just Anna, but the other girls were also still on the board, pretty much alive.
Fortunately, amidst the commotion, Anna managed to sneak out with the phone in her hand, and the mont the sound of the crowd started to dissipate, Sheva could hear her voice clearly. "Congratulations, Sheva. I am so proud of you." Even though it was laced with her heavy breath, Sheva could feel the warmth in the tone, and his gaze softened instantly after that.
Honestly, her voice always seed to have a soothing effect to calm his mind whenever he heard it, no matter how excited or depressed the boy was. That was also one of the reasons why he decided to make a call this ti.
As for the others... Well, the mont he won, the first person who flashed in Sheva’s mind was Anna, so it was no wonder he would call her like this. Fortunately, they were not standing face to face, or he would be too embarrassed to be emotional like this.
"Thank you, Anna..." Sheva replied softly, words seed to stick on his throat. "... You know what... This feeling is incredible, and I don’t think that word could do justice in describing it. You have to feel it yourself, Anna... This is... Out of the world..."
