Chapter 766: A Middle Ground

“You have sothing that doesn’t belong to you,” Patriarch Umbra said calmly.

Theron lifted up the spear in his hands, looking at it for a mont. He flipped it in his palm and pierced it into the ground. The cobbled stone—or rather, what was left of it—shook as the spear morphed back into a black box, its body embedding right into the ground as though it had been birthed from it.

SHIIIING.

Theron exhaled and pulled out his short sword and dagger.

From within the wedding hall, Chen abruptly stood up. He recognized that weapon combination. Everything fell into place, and his eyes opened wide.

Theron. He was the one Chen fought that day at the pavilion. He was part of that assassin’s organization!

Impossible. Theron was also the one to save him from that female assassin. Was there internal strife? What was—

Chen’s head snapped toward Aya. Was it a coincidence? The build of Aya and the female assassin were quite close, and Aya and Theron were also, obviously, quite close.

Could it have been a setup? Was that item in Theron’s hands? Or had it already long been handed over to the assassin’s organization?

Had Theron been trying to hide his relation to the assassin’s organization until he had no other choice? Or was there another, deeper reason?

Theron didn’t seem to have run into a wall just yet. He looked like he had a great amount left to give, and what was obvious to Chen was that Theron was far better in area control and spellcasting than he was in close combat.

This was because of several factors, but if Chen had to make a guess, though Theron’s body was far more powerful than most in his cultivation tier, because he was always fighting those so far above his, he didn’t have a real chance to take advantage of this.

The result was that Theron had one of the most powerful bodies—relatively speaking—that Chen had ever seen, but he was still in constant danger of coming to harm or dying because his enemies were too powerful.

This was simply the curse of being too talented.

By comparison, his spellcasting allowed him to take more chances and battle more freely. If all things were equal, Theron’s close combat ability would likely be quite close, if not equal, to his spellcasting. But now, that wasn’t the case.

These were just Chen’s opinions, but he still believed in them. So that could only an one thing…

Theron was exposing him on purpose for so odd reason.

However, Chen didn’t know why. More frustratingly than that, it was hard for him to explain these things.

His head snapped toward his father, who seed oblivious. Patriarch Umbra wasn’t reacting either. In fact, only Chen had had a fierce reaction.

‘…Shit.’

Chen understood sothing. Theron probably knew that the only one who could piece things together so quickly was him. So what did he want with him?

Chen felt Theron’s gaze flicker toward him. Then he saw the smile.

Theron had put a lot of thought into trying to figure out who had placed the Angel and Demon Doctrine into the pavilion to be purchased and stumbled upon. Aya’s information had co with a lot of possibilities, and they seed to have co to a conclusion, but Theron still wasn’t 100% sure of it…

Until he saw Chen again.

That pavilion was shared by the Shonagh Clan with multitudes of other powers, but it was ultimately in their territory, and they had the greatest influence over it.

Chen had put a great amount of effort into making Theron a friend, and that seed to be because Theron was a Dual Resonance Mancer. But what if there was another reason?

What clan would benefit the most from the Doctrines? The answer to that was all too obvious.

The Clan of Spirit Mancers.

Maybe to the Shonagh, the Doctrines had always been more valuable than the Primordial Earth. But they had never been able to unearth its secrets even after generations of effort. So… they wanted to find soone who could, and then take advantage of them.

It was even possible that the Shonagh had only brought out the Primordial Earth as bait to distract from their real goal.

Now, was any of that true? Theron wasn’t a god—he couldn’t be sure.

But whether it was true or not would be revealed now. The mont Chen looked away from Theron once again and then communicated with his father, Theron knew that the answer to that question was yes.

However, that didn’t an that Theron’s previous deductions were worthless. He had guessed back then that the Nightingales were involved sohow.

It seed like they ended up with nothing at all—but did they? It seed all too likely that they were the ones who ended up with the Doctrines.

So how could both the Shonagh and the Nightingales have ended up with the Doctrines when it should have only been one power?

But did it matter which one ended up with them if they chose to work together in the end?

The Shonagh had a piece of Primordial Earth they were struggling to use properly, while the Nightingales had a pair of Doctrines they couldn’t unlock no matter how hard they tried.

Then the Nightingales lost all of their power soon afterward. Maybe the Shonagh beca their hope at clinging onto just a small bit of power. In exchange, they made a deal that, should the Doctrines ever be unearthed, the Shonagh would have a share in learning from one of the most powerful Formation Doctrines in all of existence.

As a family of Spirit Mancers, how could the Shonagh resist?

Before his mind state had been refreshed, Theron was quite insistent on ending everything with his blade, refusing to use his mind. But now… he felt there was a middle ground to everything.

And if he was correct…

The Patriarch of the Shonagh stood to his feet.
