The Matriarch understood the implications of Theron’s words imdiately. He didn’t care whether she believed him about the Soul thod or not. Of course, he was telling the truth, but aside from letting her check his spatial devices, there was no proving that.

And even if he did allow her to do so, not only would that expose his status as the so-called Demon Chosen, but even if it didn’t, she might just believe that he had hidden it elsewhere.

The only way to truly get her off his back was by directing her energies elsewhere. This was undoubtedly the best option.

"But I would advise you make a decision quickly. After all, who knows if he’s slipping away right this mont—"

BOOM!

The Hall of Ice and Heart shook on its very foundations.

The Matriarch’s pupils constricted. Even Theron’s Tribulation hadn’t caused such a commotion here. This was the most protected region of the Hall.

Granted, this was because Theron’s Tribulation was an exceptionally long distance away. It wasn’t until they ca to the Heart Pavilion that she had felt sothing.

So, it was either this commotion was much larger than even Theron’s Tribulation... or it was taking place in a region much closer than it should.

It was impossible for the Matriarch to ignore such a thing, especially with the conversation she was just having with Theron. It couldn’t be that the Umbra Clan already wanted Theron, right?

The Matriarch took a step and vanished.

Theron’s eyes narrowed, wondering if he should take this opportunity to leave. After a mont, he looked toward Lyrah, who was hesitating about what to do as well.

"You stay here in the Sect. If you want, I won’t stop you from taking Lyra away from the Nightingale Sect. Though, you should be ready for whatever retaliation cos. I’m sure you know that the Umbra are probably monitoring her in so way. If they know you’ve co into contact with her, they may try to interfere."

"I understand," Lyrah said with a somber furrow of her brow.

She had suffered for so much of her life already. There was no way she would do sothing so stupid out of a mont of impulse.

Lyrah hesitated for a mont, and Theron only smiled. After a mont, he took out the King Soul Lamp and gave it to her.

"Good luck."

Lyrah’s eyes widened, and she hurriedly put the King Soul Lamp away, her heart practically beating out of her chest.

"What’s this?"

She hadn’t even gotten the chance to adjust to the fact her soul would soon be complete once more when Theron handed her a jade.

"This has all the information of the people stored in the King Soul Lamp. You take it for now. These were never my plans; they were that of the Patriarch of the Nightingale Sect. You can use them if you want, but I don’t."

Lyrah’s shock slowly faded, moving toward solemn confusion instead.

"You don’t want to help take down the Umbra anymore? Is it because you’ve been exposed? Are you worried they’ll retaliate?"

Theron shook his head. "You misunderstand. I just... have no interest in using sches to deal with them. When I return, I’ll cut them down with my blade."

After saying this, Theron took a step and vanished through [Shadow Step], his movents so fast that there seed to be little difference between him and the Matriarch.

Lyrah watched him, her heartbeat slowly ramping up again.

...

Theron’s mind was already elsewhere after he left.

With his current strength, if he used Patriarch Nightingale’s sches, he could probably cripple the Umbra Clan within three months. It wouldn’t even be all that difficult.

But to use his own sches was already sothing he was against. To use the sches of soone else, even if he was refining them to a whole other level, was even more unacceptable.

If he was going to take down the Umbra Clan, he was going to do it with his blade, just like he said. He was going to stroll right through their gates and slaughter them down to the last man.

He didn’t even have a particular grudge against them. He had only decided to do so because of Lyrah and getting her help to deal with the Hall of Ice and Heart like Goddess Sacharro expected of him.

But now that he knew the secrets of the Nightingale Ancestor Bird and the Umbra Clan, he realized that he was going to be embroiled in this trouble whether he wanted to or not.

The question was, though...

Why did Goddess Sacharro want him to destroy the Hall? What purpose did she have?

Was it just to give him a target for improvent? But if that was the case, three years was much too lax.

Was she being kind? Or was it because the Hall had secrets he didn’t understand?

There were already many oddities in the Hall.

For one, the Matriarch should be much, much older than her appearance dictated.

This was different from Patriarch Nightingale, who looked relatively middle-aged despite the fact he should have died long ago. The Matriarch radiated the aura of an old woman while having the appearance of a woman in the pri of her youth.

This was so subtle that Theron wouldn’t have been able to sense it before his Soul breakthrough. But that was far from all that was odd.

Whatever the Matriarch was doing to herself was definitely a far inferior thod than what Patriarch Nightingale had done, so all things considered—especially since she was a Do of Heaven Mancer—it could be easily overlooked.

Do of Heaven Mancers should have far more ability to get their hands on life-extending treasures than a weakling like Patriarch Nightingale would. So this could be brushed off.

What couldn’t be brushed off so easily was the information the Matriarch knew about the relationship between the Umbra and the Nightingales.

Lyrah had quite literally been in bed with the Patriarch of the Umbra, her daughter was in the Nightingale Sect, and she hadn’t ntioned this relationship a single ti.

So how the hell did a Matriarch of this small little Hall know?

Theron’s steps suddenly ca to a grinding halt, his pupils constricting as he looked into the distance. A great battle was happening in the skies, but what shocked him the most was that one of them was...

Matriarch Macie?
