Chapter 554: Trauma

When it clicked for Theron, the answer almost felt obvious. But that was also what he was expecting.

There were many secrets in worlds, or organizations, or even down to individual families that were mostly understood and never spoken of. If you asked about them directly, you would get weird glances because it was sothing everyone already knew—it might even end up exposing you as an outsider.

These sorts of open secrets no one ever bothered to write down because even children understood them were exactly so of the sticking points most often ntioned in the Assassin Tenets. Navigating them, unearthing them, and understanding them was the difference between life and death.

On the continent, controlling atmospheric Mana was as simple as reaching Silver Mancy. That was when you unlocked your Third Eye and could begin to communicate with Mana that wasn’t first stored in your Core. This allowed you to cast larger, more powerful spells, at an even quicker rate.

That made sense in a world where the highest form of Mana was Gold Mana, especially since Gold Mana was relatively rarer than Silver Mana. There were no oppressive, far higher forms of Mana looking to ruin your control while looming overhead.

However, in this larger world, there were many cultivation Realms Theron hadn’t even learned the nas of.

There was the Cloud Realm, the Do of Heaven Realm, and any number of Realms beyond that. All Theron knew was that Goddess Sacharro was certainly not just one level beyond Do of Heaven, and maybe not even just two.

In worlds where Mana could grow to such shocking heights, how small a sliver of this Mana was sothing a Silver Mancer could control? Or even a Gold Mancer or Cloud Mancer, for that matter?

When you looked at things like this, it was no wonder they weren’t confident in battling from a distance.

The lower your cultivation Realm, the higher your Resonance would have to be to be capable of communing with Mana in the atmosphere.

Maybe Theron could, but there was no guarantee about it at all. Now that Theron thought about it, he hadn’t made any large attempts to commune with atmospheric Mana since he had been here either.

Of course, that was mostly because he was trying to hide his status as a Water Mancer, so he had focused on smaller-scale things that he could manage.

Even when he was leaving large trails of ice in his wake, much like Elder Dezend had said, that wasn’t a form of atmospheric control. He wasn’t an Ice Mancer. Instead, that ice only appeared because the chill coming off of him was so great that the temperature itself went down.

‘I’ll have to see how limited my Third Eye is here, really…’

However, even though he had this thought, Theron was skeptical that he was as restrained as others. That was because he precisely rembered the limitations of his Third Eye feeling like they had been vastly opened the mont he ca to this world.

In fact, back on the continent, his Third Eye scope had been so wide that Mana could surge toward him fast enough to use in battle. It was thanks to the fact that the Mana density here was much higher that he could finally make perfect use of his Third Eye.

It seed that he would just have to learn one step at a ti.

Theron smiled and took the cauldron.

“Is there a special thod to refine it?”

Lyra pouted. “Did you even listen to ?”

“Of course I did. I’m just ssing around a bit. I told you, this is just sothing I’m taking because I don’t want to waste money.”

Lyra rolled her eyes. “As a Dual Resonance Mancer, you’ll have more money than you know what to do with when you grow up. Don’t be such a miser, otherwise I fear for your future wife.”

“Does this an you’re fearful for yourself?” Theron asked with a smile.

“Don’t be so cheeky, you’re still too young for .”

“Didn’t you say that I just had to be stronger than you?”

“And older than ,” Lyra said shalessly.

This ti, it was Theron who pouted.

“The refinent thod is a bit trickier, though. Soul Mancers can just leave their Soul Marks on their treasures, which would allow them to control them from a distance. But for Elental Mancers, you’ll need to trade for the unique transfiguration thod in the technique tower. Are you sure you want to waste one of your trades on this? You’ll essentially be trading two.”

The mont Theron heard there was such a technique, he was even more dead set in his ways. He really did want to see what technique allowed you to control a treasure from a distance as an Elental Mancer.

That was unheard of on the continent.

“Yup, I’m sure.” Theron nodded with a smile, putting the tiny cauldron away before stopping at a peculiar pillar. There was a small knife—or at least what sort of looked like one—there.

Instead, it was probably more accurate to call it a skin-peeling tool for fruits and certain other produce. If Theron didn’t know better, he’d think it was a mistake for it to be here.

“This is…?” Theron asked.

“A wood carver,” Lyra said without missing a beat, but she seed a hint more somber when she looked at it, as though reliving childhood trauma.

“What is it?” Theron asked, though he felt that asking this might be a bit dangerous. He was proven right when Lyra gave him a weird look, but she brushed by it as though she didn’t care to think too much.

“It’s a thod of improving your Mana Control. You use this tool to carve in Mana Wood.”

“But if you use a special treasure to do that, doesn’t that defeat the purpose?” Theron blinked in confusion.

Lyra shook her head. “The higher grade the Mana Wood carving tool, the more difficult it is, actually. This is the highest-grade one our Sect can produce, but it always lies here untouched.”
