It was the next day after the conversation between Baines and Shurphen, and they were to attend classes. With his disguise, he didn’t stand out in the large class hall, and luckily, Shurphen wasn’t attending the class. He didn’t think he could sit in the sa class with a potential traitor. Fortunately or not, even after the professor entered about thirty minutes later, the students didn’t exceed fifty.

There was a strong demand for magic engineers in the world; however, the interests of students were diverse, with magic engineering among the least popular.

"A recap from the last class on spirit summoning, anyone?" the lecturer asked, and a girl raised her hand to answer.

"Yes."

"You said magic engineers are those who apply magic laws and principles to maintain, construct, design, and so on. And due to the amount of ti heavily invested, we don’t have ti to study magic, hence the reason for our weakness. To redy that situation, we commune with spirits." She sat down afterward.

"Good. Now, this class is to understand the nature of spirits, summoning circles, and binding rituals." He looked around to ensure the students were following and continued,

"First, spirits are sentient magical entities tied to elents, emotions, or realms. Second, summoning is to call that spirit from its plane into the physical world using a dium, and lastly, binding. Binding is the pact or contract that must be made with the spirit after summoning it to the physical world. Leaving spirits free can make them unstable or dangerous."

"For today’s class, you will learn to construct a summoning circle." He raised his hand, and with the materialization of the magic circle, a large amount of wind swept by the class, and in its place stood a green wolf. "This is the end goal of this class: to be able to summon your contracted spirit."

The onlookers looked in amazent; after all, that wolf was a high-tier wind spirit.

As to why Baines selected this class, the more forces he could garner, the better, especially ones that wouldn’t betray him.

The class ended with them practicing drawing summoning circles and learning how to form contracts. Baines never went back to that class. He had gotten all he needed from it.

The second class was rune engineering.

The professor this ti was a female. "What are runes? Runes are magical symbols representing each force. What of arrays? An array is the combination of runes. Examples are what are drawn over armors, towers, buildings, and so on. This class is mainly self-study. All you have to do is read through the accomplishnts of your predecessors and learn from them." Like that, she directed them to the library on runes.

Baines chose this class because of its use in channeling energy, power sources, elents, and a part he hadn’t touched in a while: his plants.

He could tether the pills’ effects to weapons and armor with the help of rune engineering.

The class mbers looked at him with disbain as he went around touching all the books.

Was he trying to garner attention or spread infection? After that display, they sanitized any books they touched.

After scanning all the rune books, he never attended the class again.

The third class he selected was alchemical engineering.

The professor for this class was very strict, as the field was a serious one. Exploring material transformation, alchemic reactions, and magic essences, any one of these could bring down the entire academy with all its mbers if one thing went wrong.

This ti, Baines didn’t rush the process. He took his ti to learn, as this was very important. Two of the three main issues in the Sky Destroyer lay in this field, and for the next month, he was like a scholar.

During this class, he also encountered Shurphen. It made his suspicion even more certain. And for what felt like the first ti, he focused on developnt for himself, not for anyone else.

The process of learning from a trained professional was quite enjoyable. He had long forgotten that feeling from Martos, and finally, in the last class, construct design.

This ti, their professor was an artist.

"To build a construct, you first need an imagination. Many might say appearances don’t matter, but I’m sorry to say, they do. How would you feel if one day you passed by one of your creations and cringed at its sight? Once again, appearance matters." The class lightly chuckled at his words. It was one of those classes where the professor was easy-going and funny.

"Once you have your imagination, you build your frawork. The other necessary parts are the core and control, and I advise you to attend the alchemy and rune classes for the full package. However, what I am teaching you is the frawork. They vary, from attack constructs to defensive constructs, to even weapons the blacksmiths create..."

Their class went on to things like how to use materials like wood, tal, and stone to form constructs.

One day, Baines constructed a small tal golem similar to Shurphen’s and inscribed so basic runes for movent and reactions, and connected them to a center. All that was left was a core.

As he stared at it, a thought ca to him. "Eye, can you control this golem?"

Normally, forming a core was a grueso process, irrespective of its size. And for a golem of this size, he would have to go into calculations. It must be balanced enough not to destroy the golem lest it cause a failure. At the mont, he was in need of another hand, so he was hoping Eye could redy that situation.

[ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY CAN CONTROL CONSTRUCTS FROM CENTRAL COMMAND]

"Oh?" His eyes nearly shone. Progress. He was making progress.

"So, if I..." He placed his hand on the construct.

[PERMISSION TO TRANSFER 8 NANO-CELLS]

"Nano-cells? Is that what Eye is made of?" He accepted, and suddenly felt a part of his left eye being scraped off. He endured the pain and looked at the result.

[BACK-UP INFORMATION CREATED]

[AVAILABLE FUNCTIONS OF CONSTRUCT ARE AS FOLLOWS]

Baines was reeling as the tal construct displayed the ssages in window form. It was certainly strange seeing it with both eyes. He quickly cut off the ssage and looked around. "Phew..."

Thankfully, there was no one. He closed the demarcation to his study section and glanced at the golem once more.

Now, he was beginning to get curious about the future. Eye’s capabilities was enough to make one the strongest in the world. Just what did the future look like,

"Eye, show sothing about the future."
